Title: Random Encounters Happen In Convenience Stores, Too
Character: Rictor
Warning: Swearing.
Summary: This is a little ficlet that takes place between Rictor leaving Cable's team and him showing up as part of a Canadian superteam sent to take Cable down.

No, you don't have to know anything about D&D to understand this story. )

Namor is walking out of a meeting with the ambassadors of a few countries and probably an Avenger or two when a firey figure streaks across the sky towards them.
"Who is that?" someone asks, and he calmly says, "Toro."
"How can you tell?"
"They look different."
"NAMOR!" Toro yells, and his voice is full of excitement. He drops down in front of the King of Atlantis and grabs his wrists almost before his flames are gone. "I'm gonna be a father!" And his voice is full of wild elation.
Namor grips his wrists in turn, grinning at him. "Congratulations!" Because of course he knows how much this means to Toro, of course he does, he was there through the years of Toro and Ann's marriage, and knows how they were afraid if she go pregnant with Toro's child she might get burned.
Toro laughs joyously. "Do you have a few minutes to spare? I'd like to introduce you to the mother of my future child--" His grin is huge and proud. "--we were just house-hunting, it's not far."
And they fly off and Namor meets Freya.

As much as Jim wants to be there with Toro and Freya and the baby, and as much as he likes the home they are makig together, he kind of didn't want to give up his old place. It held memories, and it seems like he's always having to leave that kind of thing behind.
He solves the problem by giving the old apartment to Tara.

As the USS Lehigh approaches the distressed outpost, they have a senior staff briefing, and it's Steve who knows what phenomenon they're studying, Steve who can name several ships that have gone missing after managing to get out a report of the readings of it, and two of those were Starfleet. Phillips and Peggy take this in stride, but don't say anything about why he is so familiar with this particular research. Others can just assume he's being an efficient and well-informed second officer. It's not until later in the story, when Steve and Peggy are stranded with Thor and Sif, that it comes out that his parents were on one of those ships. Foreshadowing!

A little something I whipped up after thinking about it for, well, since August 2007. A nice bit of body language continuity. I tip my hat to Mr. Raimondi for working that in.

I honestly have no idea if this tactic would work, but -- from watching Mythbusters! -- it seems like it would, and that's one hell of a lot better than most comic book science can say!

Characters: Jamie Maddrox, Julio Richter, others
Prompt: Day late, dollar short.
Word Count: 703
Rating: M
Summary: Ric and Jamie run into someone ...interesting. (Jamie pov.)
Author's Notes: This takes place in the 5 month time skip, and can be considered an AU starting from when that began, because I really think that in that time, some of the "team" would have been smart enough change what they look like some, given that the FBI is looking for them.

Okay, so the Clix for Riddler, Two-Face, Montoya!Question and Amanda Waller are actually fabulous! Much better than terribly manfaced Wonder Woman, for example. And the one for Clea isn't too bad, either, although there's a slight flaw on mine where some of the plastic squished out the mould and was just painted instead of trimmed.

Oh, yes, and an in case you missed it above: I HAVE THE WALL NOW. THAT'S RIGHT. I'm going to set her and Harvey so they're pointing their guns at each other... as soon as I figure out where the hell to put them, since there's no space at all left on my tower. Dammit.

I also picked up issues 1, 3, and 4 of Gambit and the X-Ternals, you know, the Age of Apocalypse books that have Rictor as one of the baddies. First observation: he's got tats on his back, too! eta: But only in the first ish. Huh. Also, alas, I don't have Ric making his deal with the lesser devils of the Shi'ar Empire. I do have Apocalypse killing him, almost off panel. (He seems to extend his arm, grab Rictor and we see the hair braids, one arm and a knee flail into the panel as there's an energy-blast SFX and Apocalypse yammers about Ric's death serving him loyally. I'm pretty sure it was messy as hell. D:)

Welp :V the Father's Day thing being a bust apparently had the aftereffect of leaving me with a yen to post something Sammy. (It's from Sam's pov, y'see.) So here you go: a ficlet about something that could have happened during the brief existence of the X-Corps (Paris Branch), inspired by a comment Monet made in X-Factor.

This is total fluff. Enjoy!

Title: Developing Instincts
Warnings: Swearing, some of which starts with "f" and rhymes with that thing you shoot around in hockey. ;) There's not a lot, though.
Author's Notes: Rictor is a worrywart. Shatterstar is a loose cannon. How their friendship didn't give Ric ten different kinds of nervous tic I can't fathom. Set during X-Force #29-30, between Rictor dropping Shatterstar off and picking him up again. 1st person narration by Rictor (figured I'd give a heads up on that since some people don't like it).

The problem with Shatterstar --  )

Cross-posted at [livejournal.com profile] ricstar, even though it's not really slash. It's probably more tentative, bewildered friendship with a mild frisson of physical attraction.

Title: Royal Station 4/16

Title: A Reunion, Witnessed
Author's notes: This is an outsider pov fic -- someone else's view on the guys -- and it's written in present tense because I felt like trying that out. I know either of these things occasionally drives people batty, so I figured I'd give some warning. I suppose this is hurt/comfort; Marvel hurts them and I give them to opportunity to comfort one another. Post M-day. Feedback welcome!

Title: On the Red Sox's winning the 2007 World Series
Fandom: X-Factor vol.3
Author's notes: I wrote this a day or two after the win, and while I meant to go somewhere with it, the place I was gonna go I've decided to get to from a different point in a different fic, and thus this is all of this I am showing. It is what it is.

It was the most excited any of them had seen Rictor get since Paris. )

I realise that this is petty or maybe just weird of me, but I am endlessly

And that was as far as I got before the fire alarm went.

As I was saying:

I am endlessly amused that Rictor is taller than Avalanche. :3 Sure, it's only two inches, but so what?

However, I am wondering wtf he was doing in the Northstar mini (Rictor, I mean).

Rictor is SUCH A GIRL. Also, I hope to GOD he and Boom-Boom weren't still dating when he did this.

"Don't sweat it, Boom-Boom. It's not much worse than bein' in jail! My dad and I were thrown in jail in Costa Rica -- did I ever tell you? He --" Rictor, page 19, New Mutants #79

Incidentally, page 20 has Rictor explaining his relationship with Boom-Boom to Sam.

Sam: Give her some space, Ric. She'll snap out of it.
Ric: I don't know. This isn't ordinary Boom-Boom dramatics. All this... Asgard... really bothers her. She saved me, once, you know. The Right Organization cyborgs who'd tortured me once were after me again. And I was ready to die, rather than let them have me. Maybe it was enlightened self-interest on Boom-Boom's part... After all, there was a good chance that, if I went, I'd take her with me... But she talked me out of dying. It was a turning point for me. I was able to grab hold of myself, for her sake. I owe her, Sam. She thinks she's so tough, but she's not really. I know her, probably better than she knows herself. I try and watch out for her, and boss her around and steer her when she goes wrong. I won't let her down, Sam... no matter what...

He hovers over her a lot, too. Sits next to her at dinner with the dwarfs, etc. And actually, poor Artie would have loved this dinner, and I don't mean because the kid's got dwarfism. I remember him trying to convince Skids to make anchovy sandwiches.

Ric: Good grub, Eitri.
Boom-Boom: If you like pickled herring...

What if it had been HYDRA that Louis Richter* narked off with a late gun shipment, instead of Stryfe?

What if it had been HYDRA to get their hands on Rictor, instead of The Right? Possibly as punishment for his father?

They're masters of brainwashing useful people, as we have seen with Madrox, Northstar, and Wolverine in the past few years. I'm sure they'd find a use for a powerful young earthshaker.

He'd have been a bad guy -- just imagine the X-Men or someone finding him, not in a machine shouting that he won't let himself be used/leave him to die, but deployed by his neo-Nazi masters as a living weapon. What would they call him? How would they break the brainwashing, if they even could? What would he do then?

*Rictor's dad.

Mary Hewlett has a blog, and the most recent entry is about her son David's squirrel antics. XD Yes, that David Hewlett.

I am working on a fanfic for Kingdom Come, God help me. I vaguely blame [livejournal.com profile] apathocles. I can't decide whether to take it to the end or leave it when Ted's still alive. Hell, I could cut out all the stuff about Ted's heart and call it done with what I have. It'd be short... :/

There was more... *thinks*

Okay, so I've been wanting to do something with the pre-sent-off-to-school, i.e. still-living-on-Ship X-Terminators (much as I kid of adore Rictor's post-sent-off-to-school makeover, I just can't deal with Taki). At the moment I'm toying with having them somehow wind up in the X-Men: Evolution universe. But can reality withstand two Boom-Booms? And how much antagonism between Rictor and Lance would I really want to indulge in? It would make more sense for Rusty and Skids to be RAR at him, because Avalanche was one of the members of Freedom Force that tried to arrest Rusty when Skids met him. Even if I never write anything, it's been a useful thought exercise. For example, since Skids was a Morlock, she's probably heard of or even seen some of the X-Men. Kitty, for example, since she knows Caliban. I'm sure she's heard of Storm, as well, since by the point Skids is introduced, Storm is leader of the Morlocks and all.

More rambling about the kids under here, especially Rictor )

And I've been mildly obsessing on pre-Inferno Rictor of late. What do you think? Is he an adorable punkass or what? :D
