So I saw someone ranting about how Obi-Wan is terrible because when the Jedi Council were like "no, this kid is too dangerous to train" he agreed and said they should send him back to Tatooine, which is totally harsh because the kid was a slave.

Yes.

Except.

Did Obi-Wan actually know Anakin had been a slave, at that point? I admit I haven't rewatched Ep I since it was in theaters, but I don't remember if that information had been relayed to him at that point. I checked a copy of the script online and it doesn't show in dialogue, but scripts are never 100% accurate.

I mean, if he knew, yes, that's harsh, but if he didn't? I mean clearly not everyone on Tatooine is a slave, look at Luke.

So I'm wondering if he knew. And if he didn't, like... when did he find out? Did he find out? That would have been one hell of a shocker to have come up once he was training the kid, I bet.

This is a bittersweet duet from Koko wa Greenwood. "Amayadori" does literally mean "take shelter from the rain" but also connotes how people from very different backgrounds can, for a time, share a space together because of it, and then part. I love this song because not only is it a perfect image song for the deeper level of the relationship between the two characters (whose voice actors are) mainly singing it, but it is also the essential underlying theme for the entire series. The school, and more specifically the dorm, Greenwood, is the great tree under which most of the students find themselves meeting and sharing a space, before parting again to go out into the world, and possibly never meet again.

I'm kind of disappointed that I can't find any crossovers for Night Hood and Harry Potter. I mean, they even got an actor with a very similar hair colour to Arsène's to play Remus in the movies, surely the visuals work. Imagine if Arsène Lupin, gentleman burglar, was a wizard and that's how he could do all that he did. Or better, he wasn't a wizard, but since his skills of thievery and disguise were just so elite, someone from the wizarding world was made to investigate if it was a wizard using their magic to mess with the muggles, and fell in love. He'd be the right age to be Remus' grandfather*, it could totally work. He doesn't even have to be Remus' actual grandfather; having awesome burglary inclined relations on the continent could only be useful to a member of the Order, during the first War against Voldemort, right? Cousins!

The closest I've found, and this is really stretching, is the Lupin family being originally from France and moving to England because Beauxbatons wouldn't accept a werewolf student and Dumbledore did.

* I judge this thusly: I am two years younger than Harry Potter. By all accounts, Lily and the Marauders seem to have been within 5 years of how old my mom was when she had me. Her mother was born during WWII. Night Hood seems to take place in the 20s, and Arsène doesn't have a kid during the show, so a child soonish after the show would be the right age to be Remus Lupin's dad's generation.

So Heero and Setsuna had a little boy...

Except their kid would be the safest child in the solar system and become a child soldier only over their dead bodies, which... must mean they're dead. Oh no. Now I'm sad.

Wait, wait, could the Lt. Commander be Wufei?

Hey, people, the Highlander Holiday Shortcuts signups are open! It's a secret santa exchange with a 500 word minimum (and no max). I did it last year for the first time and it was a lot of fun. If you'd be interested, give it a looksee -- signups end October 9th!

In other news, there was a group of Girl Guides selling cookies on the walk between the pet food store and the drug store and I got a box of "chocolatey mint cookies". They are neither as chocolatey nor as minty as I remember, and now they have this thin layer of, like, possibly somewhat minty oreo-like filling between the cookie and the coating? When did that start?

A scant three hours after going to bed -- and there was a deal of tossing and turning before I managed to go to sleep -- I wake up a cold, sweaty mess and my brain decides now would be a good time to catalogue Time Travel As Happens In the Marvel Universe (At Least the X-Books), A Seminar Presented By Bobby Drake.

Thanks, brain.

*beats head on wall*

I'm gonna, just, eat a bunch of things and hope I food coma. eta: ...while reading a bunch of fanfic that involve time travel and mocking them, for the most part.

Okay, I will level with you. I don't like Peter. I don't trust Peter. I don't forgive him the things he's done. I think he's crazy and I think he knows that he's crazy -- but I understand why. I certainly understand why he'd want revenge on the people who killed his family.

And I would like to see him redeemed.

I would like to see a plot thread run where Peter, yes, is manipulating things for some goal of his, but in the end it turns out that his goal was something good, something meant, in some way, as an apology -- or better, that it wasn't, but that he abandons his goal in favour of doing something selfless.

(And then dies, preferably sacrificing himself in a way that Derek would have to try really, really hard to construe as Derek's fault.)

Look through the dark, there's a compass in the sky
If ever you are lonely and question why
Remember that I'm always by your side
'Til the end, I'll be waiting

And even though we sleep light years apart
A galaxy away is not so far
Because we know the future is our star
'Til the end I'll be waiting

Okay, I don't even really drink, and I'm not all that fond of jello much of the time, and yet many recipes at the Jelly Shot Test Kitchen are tempting. They're just so pretty!

And there's a bunch of Harry Potter themed ones, I've found Butterbeer, Chocolate Frogs, and Polyjuice Potion so far!

Not to mention waffles, bats, four different kinds of rainbow, and of course pistachio pudding shots, heh heh heh...

Okay, so, here's the song list in order. I don't have any art for it, and I don't have a download link (yet!), but I've put in youtube links for the songs I could find there.

This is arranged to follow the development of the relationship between Pied Piper and Trickster, following canon but injecting a love affair into it. I will try to explain why I chose each song.

Ten songs, with varying amounts of transcribed lyrics and my explanation, under the cut. )

Okay, mentally choreographing a zero-gravity dance performance to the song Bridge of Light by Pink, by the Minchenko Freefall Ballet Troop, who are a) fictional, and b) quaddies (i.e. genetically engineered to have a set of arms where standard humans have legs).

I could never describe this, I suspect. But it's beautiful to imagine.

So I'm researching colognes for secret fic research reasons, when the ad along one side of the page I am reading on a French fragrance review site suddenly goes from a picture of bottles to a picture of Chris Evans.

He's the male model for Gucci Guilty Black's ad campaign!

And also For Gucci Guilty Intense.

The commercials are artistically/visually interesting (and probably NSFW).

Post with a character from a fandom I follow, and I'll respond with...

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

FYI, fandoms I have more recently gotten into include: The Losers, Magnificent Seven (the TV show, not the movie), and Invaders (the Marvel team that started in WWII era -- I was already into them, but I'm much more so lately). I'm also having a Highlander renaissance. Let this information influence you as you will~

Started making loud squawking noises as soon as I saw Dehner. Watched the Japanese trailer and made similar noises when they did the hands-on-glass thing. Son of a bitch! Tai is laughing at me, and I am ambiguously excited right now.

I suppose, without Kirk there to first be his friend and second stop him, Gary would have gone oh so badly...

It's on youtube if you want to see it. The Japanese one has slightly more footage, with subtitles in Japanese.

Things this morning:

♦ There's a notebook page of point-form headcanon for Bucky & Toro & music in front of my monitor. It's in my handwriting. I remember thinking all this stuff... I don't remember writing it down. o_o

♦ While I was asleep, a friend sent me an AIM message asking "is there a love thing between magneto and prof x?" After considering all the possible interpretations of the question, I just sent back "yes". Maybe when I'm more awake and we're both actually online I will try to explain a complicated comic book relationship older than my mother. X3

♦ There is Generator Gawl fanfic on my flist this morning! :O *flails arms around*

♦ Why do I keep trying to write stories from Living Lightning's pov? I've never even been able to track down the books he was in. (Except that one page of Great Lakes Avengers.)

Okay, so back in the summer of 2011 I made a Pipster or Pied Piper & Trickster fanmix. (Which I never shared, because I'm not sure quite how to go about it, I feel like maybe I should make album art, and I suspect I'd have to explain waaaaay more of my personal interpretation of certain metaphysical aspects of Trickster's history than a fanmix really merits.) I just listened to it again for the first time in months, and it still works for me. (So maybe I will work on those issues and eventually share it.)

Now, in my playlists I have one marked "Pipster" and one marked 'Pipster not used", and the latter is basically just the songs that I associate with one or both of the characters, their relationships and shenanigans, etc., but didn't use because the list I finally went with provides a better sort of quasi-narrative continuity, to me.

"Pipster" is 10 songs long.

"Pipster not used" is 22 songs long.

That's more than twice as long! This strikes me as really funny. maybe I should make another couple of playlists? XD I could make one of just songs with the theme of running.

I dreamt that President Obama sat on the foot of my bed and chatted with me about the Avengers movie, Mercedes Lackey's Velgarth books, and how terrible the crossover of the two would be. And then the power went out, so he went to call his wife (from his cell) to see if she had power in her part of town and suddenly I was in a large department store where [livejournal.com profile] taichara was grumpily making donairs on a grill that was somehow part of the checkout lane, which I then had to clean, which meant [livejournal.com profile] teriyakibroth had nobody to distract my mother from forcing her to try on clothes for a ridiculously long time.

Pretty sure before that there was a huge house wherein I know there were Avengers, but I could only hear them from other rooms, and also I got locked out and it rained and terrorists attacked. Actually I think the terrorist attack is somehow related to how I wound up meeting Obama.

He was pretty cool.
