Title: Team Movie Night: Parallels Peril
Fandom: X-Force (vol. 1)
"I don't like this movie," Rictor said. The reaction from the rest of X-Force was immediate and voluble.
"What?!"
"How can you not --"
"-- a classic --"
"-- most quotable, maybe more than Star Wars!"
He waited out the group outburst with a pained expression on his face. Eventually the questions subsided, with a last "Why not?" trailing from Tabitha.
He shifted uncomfortably, jamming his hands in his pockets, then pulling them out to rub them on the seams of his jeans instead.
"Inigo Montoya," he muttered, then sighed deeply. "The Spanish-speaking son of murdered weaponsmith who swore revenge on the client who killed him? Ring a bell?" His gaze swept the room without actually meeting anyone's eyes.
"Oh," Jimmy said with a grimace. "Yeah, man."
Roberto reached out and squeezed his shoulder, giving him a gentle shake.
Rictor scrubbed both hands over his face, hard, then spoke with his accent thickened. "'Hello. My name is Julio Richter. You killed my father. Prepare to die.'"
The others laughed a little, not quite comfortable, and Sam called a vote.
"All in favour of watching a different movie raise a hand. We can do a smaller group for Princess Bride later."
Terry asked, "So what are we watching, then?" after the majority carried the motion.
"Star Wars!" Roberto said immediately.
"Gremlins!"
"Thelma and Loiuse!"
An avalanche of suggestions and arguments ensued. Rictor eventually weighed in, but spent most of the debate speechless. Some days his team felt like friends after all.
