Check out the art inspired by one of the songs I submitted (Laisse-la rêver by Roch Voisine) done by the talented sloaners and posted on tumblr:

https://sloaners.tumblr.com/post/617886950973636608/breathe-a-30-minute-art-challenge-on

They both have such pretty hair. *hearteyes*

Sloaners also has done some of my favourite Naruto fanart. ♥

Wind energy! Tech breakthrough with new turbine design: the Wind Lens! It looks cool. :3

U.S. broadens legal definition of rape to include more than just violent vaginal penetration by a man's penis while the woman fights. There are so many more kinds, including situations where a person is unable to give consent. I am glad they got on the ball with this, but what the hell took them so long?!

...I realise this is a strange combo.

Today -- November 16, 2011 -- the US Congress is holding hearings about a possible American Internet censorship system. If this bill is passed, it will not only affect every 'net user and service provider in the states, it will set a terrible precedent for the rest of the world as well. Find out more here

(And if anyone can tell me how to get that code to work on LJ, let me know!)

Favourite Star Trek fanart of the morning: NEEEEEEEERDS! XD

Because sometimes TNG was so funny. XD

(eta: Because the devArt account this was from has been purged, I've uploaded the picture to my scrapbook and linked to that instead.)

Your present: two very well known Jewish actors, back in their prime... as ladies.

I think I just fell for Bill Shatner all over again.

Link-bump!

Over on Jeff's Gameblog, he's posted a new entry called Rules for that ol' Kirk charm, which are from a gaming magazine.

My favourite part is the way that the fact that Kirk is unlucky in love and thus his normal Luck bonus does not apply is repeated twice in the rules. XD

...a nice little entry about Tim Horton's and why it's a cornerstone of modern Canadian society (and therefore it's not surprising when Americans claim not to get it): It's a Canuck Thing.

So, you've probably heard of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and are aware that they are named after four master painters.

I urge you to check out the Ninja Masters! XD

I think you will appreciate the last panel of this webcomic.

[livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon has posted a fic festival on her LJ -- anyone here interested in the three things listed in my subject line for this post should check it out. (It's not 100% clear if non-McShep commentfic is allowed, but if that's what rings you're bell, you could ask.)

If you've ever wondered why people aren't leaving you comments -- or are still snorfling up your sleeve about people who flounce away from LJ because they apparently aren't getting enough comments, or the right ones, or something like that -- it's your lucky day, because [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine has the answers.

;3

Link pimp! A whole slew of awesome Star Trek icons (from the four series that actually had "Star Trek" in the title) including some from fanart and some from book covers with the titles changes for the LULZ.

THERE IS DR. SELAR!

I AM SO EFFING HAPPY!

eta: WARNING: If you keep looking through her icon posts you will probably want to adopt more than you have slots for. Seriously. I AM TORN! ;o;

UncannyXmen.Net did a spotlight on Chris Bradley!

"Who?" you may ask, and I wouldn't be surprised. He was a kid with lightning powers who the X-Men took in only to discover that he had the Legacy Virus. That all happened in X-Men Unlimited #8. What even most people who read that book don't know is that his story didn't end there! Alas, it did end, and quite tragically. Read all about it!

When I troll deviantArt, I seem to end up saving a lot of pictures involving Harley Queen. *shrugs* NorthernBanshee is the latest artist to catch my eye with Doc Quinzel. In Let's go for a walk, Puddin', Harley and Joker are heading out in the Gotham night to make some mayhem, while over in Ruby and Jade, a re-imagined (or maybe just re-costumed) Harley and Ivy meet at a saloon. I especially love that second one.

The thing about looking for fanart on deviantart is that you will find a) a lot of unrelated crap, and b) a lot of crappy art.

But sometimes, there's good stuff. Like these:

Iceman by ReillyBrown I like the smile.
Titanbolzen did a picture of three recent artistic takes on Iceman, but in his own style, and managed to make them look like a progression.
And finally, something which can really only be explained by quoting the post title and the post comment:
Somewhere In Scott's Mind
"Emma Frost has no idea what Northstar, Lockheed, and Bobby-Drake-in-Fishnets are doing there."

XD

[livejournal.com profile] jack_built is a comm featuring stories set in an AU where Jack O'Neill is the superintendent of an apartment building whose tenants include 20-something versions of many fanfave characters from SG-1 and SGA. Anyway can write for the AU and it doesn't have to match anyone else's continuity for it. I just read through what's there and it's mostly a tonne of fun. Check it out!

I know someone on my f-list not too long ago was wonder where these crossovers were hiding, but I can't remember who! So, for the edification of any and all, I share this link: it's a list of crossover fic between SG-1 and/or SGA, and NCIS. Note that's it's not a list of recs, just an index of all the available such fic found by the lister.

DocShaner is one of the artists I watch over on deviantArt. One of the things he/she/it does is Flash Friday -- every Friday, a new Flash-themed picture! You can imagine how this is a draw for me, being the Flash fan I am.

Today he drew Iris.

A monocycle is not a unicycle. With a unicycle, you ride above the wheel. With a monocycle?

You ride inside the wheel. Check out how this thing was built. That man is brilliant.

Much less expensive DIY: repaint NERF stuff! I feel an opportunity to make awesome laser tag custom guns is out there, waiting to be seized!

Those work. This doesn't, and I doubt it plays music anymore, but it's kinda pretty...
eliyes: (team shep)
You'd probably like this SGA warm fuzzy team-lol ficlet. :3

For the rest of you, your homework is to bone up on how often Hal Jordan hits his head, is clocked in the head, or has psychic attacks on his brains (which are probably mush by now, eh?)

eta: If you click on my location, you can see that laundry is actually bigger than the United States. You can also see Rictor's supposed hometown, Guadalajara! :D

How To Make A Hat - mostly costumey stuff, not actually real hats.

How to generate electricity from body heat - awesome! I'd love to stop having to plug in my cell phone to charge mid-conversation.

Retropolis T-shirts - the Space Cadet one is probably the most appropriate for me, but I like most of these. :D

Like RiskTM? Like stained glass? How about both, combined in coffee table form?

The portion of England that brought us Lovejoy now produced computerized lip-reading. COINCIDENCE? I think not. Obviously extreme measures must be taken to get the best of that wily divvie. (I'm not kidding about the robots!)

More awesome science over at Accelerating Future's article on the Top 10 Transhumanist Technologies Why, hello there, Island Three. You're looking lovely today! :D So much prettier than Kalpana One. (Warning! link is a .pdf)

I feel I should end this with another warning, one dating back to 1955 or so, but still relevant, in it's way, today.

*ahem*

Some things I ran across today that, at least in my own mind, seem to go together:

Anonymous' Rules for Protesting

Fred Phelps, meet punk rock. Successfully counter-protesting picketers. Excerpt:
I learned that in the face of hate and animus, collective action is contagious.

Music and protests have a long history. Wikipedia has a cool entry on the history of protest songs. It makes me come over all nostalgic for the Christmas parties I used to go to. The carols usually gave way to protest songs as the night wore on. :3

Good news for Anonymous in Spain and other parts of the European Union, apparently: EU Law does not require ISP to hand over customers' identity data. (If you've never heard of the Electronic Frontier Foundation? You should have. Anyone using the internet should check them out. They're legitimate and they're working every day to protect YOUR freedoms.)
eliyes: (violates continuity)
Attention X-Men fans, former X-Men fans, and people who don't consider themselves fans per se but are reasonably familiar with the stories: watch X-Men: Phoenix Season, a satirical little flash animation that I, for one, really like. Their doorbell is awesome, and all the gestures are done very well even though only The Blob has arms. Or a mouth.

And for the Star Trek fans in the audience, there's an extremely well-edited fake trailer for STAR TREK XI: THE WRATH OF KIRK here. But if the idea of the original crew waging war against the ST:TNG crew upsets you, perhaps give it a miss.

More geekery as it happens!
