Be merry!

Check out the highly memorable (well, maybe not to the drunk superheroes) Alpha Flight Christmas Issue!! (They have probably had other Christmas things happen since the 90s. I don't care, they will never be as good as that one. Which is sad.)
(P.S. Warning -- male strippers and 90s art.)

And then admire these awesome Northstar & Aurora stockings!

If Alpha Flight isn't your cup of cheer this Christmas (or even if it is!), then let Annie Lennox bring you glad tidings of comfort and joy )

Happy 24th, all.

When you see this, post a little weensy excerpt from as many random works-in-progress as you can find lying around. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

NCIS' Leroy Jethro Gibbs? Same age as Aurora and Northstar.

Yeeeeeeeep.

Huh.

Every member of the original Alpha Flight had a cybernetic implant in their brain, which was how they were summoned to emergencies.

Yes, even the magic ones.

Superpowered Canadian cyborgs!

Hey, remember the time Alpha Flight did a World Tour to examine how other countries deal with their super-powered populace, and lost their luggage, so X-Factor dressed them up in leather and straps? Havok was bitchy to Northstar, and then bitchier to Heather. After Multiple Man and Northstar's shenanigans at a zombie wedding, Jamie said his jaw would hurt for about a month.

Then in the next issue, Northstar had a tea party with the President of Ireland and Heather beat up an 8-year-old boy. Remember that?

No?

We'll fix that!

The World Tour arc was meant to last five issues, but the third issue brings them back to North America and gave them a new writer. Unfortunately, I think Scott Lobdell is probably too bitter to ever reveal what would have happened if he'd stayed on.

I inadvertently bought that issue of Alpha Flight today. Also the one where Walter gets turned back into a dude (note: it is still Snowbird's body!) which is just not very good at all. Of all the AF I bought today, the one where Kara Killgrave brings Northstar back to Mansion Alpha is one of my faves.

Regardless of the book, I did notice something. Everyone does a lot of ragging on JP all the time. Walter, yes, all the damned time. Heather. Puck. Maddie. The only one who likes him unreservedly is Kara, in fact.

Northstar: *saves Kara's mom from baddies*
Kara's Mom: Oh my -- you're Jean-Paul Beaubier! My daughter has posters of you all over her room!
Northstar: How flattering. -_-

It's no wonder he's a bitch to you guys, people! Try not being a complete jerk to him all the time! Fortunately things will get friendlier later.

The twins have this adorable "shouting something in unison" thing going on when Ernest St. Ives came back. X3

I look at the older issues, long long before JP was officially outed, and I wonder if the artists were told to draw his body language as coming across gay. I really do. There are poses and gestures he gets drawn doing that the other guys don't, but some of the girls do.

Northstar isn't the only reason I read ALPHA FLIGHT. ^_^ The following is a fanfic featuring Wildchild (Kyle Gibny) and Diamond Lil (Lillian Crawley), two Alphans I'm rather fond of. It takes place during their days in Beta Flight, back when Kyle was only sorta functionally insane.

Title: Consider the Diamond
Summary: Kyle struggles to understand Lil.

He couldn't hurt her. )

I love them. They're so teeny. X3

I only bought one DC figure today -- the rest were Marvel. Yes, my ratio is no longer DC/25:Marvel/2. Shocking!

From DC, I picked up Wildcat, one of the Cool Old Dude Brigade members. :3 I wuvs him.

For Marvel, I already had Wild Child, so I got him Diamond Lil and Aurora to keep him company (they also had a Snowbird, but she was a very expensive limited edition, and Shaman, but it was whoa, f'ugly, so I didn't get them). My Alpha Flight pack thus increased, I moved onto New Mutants, picking up Cannonball (in the purple-and-goggles costume), and Magma. But the one that caught my attention in the first place and started this most recent mini-binge was Gargoyle. Oh, Isaac. You and Koriand'r have, like, the same taste in clothes. You are my New Defenders secret crush (as opposed to my obvious New Defenders crushes: Beast, Iceman, Angel, Candy Southern and Cloud).

<3

Now, I am going to reapply sunscreen and go to [livejournal.com profile] sinfonica's house to watch SGA and eat ice cream. :D

Au revoir! *waves*
