Hey, look, I went INSANE and actually made a list of all the fic I've posted. *facepalm* This is staying right at the top of my journal for the REST OF MY LIFE so that I can keep it updated. Hopefully it will prove useful.
I am including commentfic, and drabbles I posted in a glot, as their own separate entries. BECAUSE IT'S MY LIST. B}

Honestly, thinking of stupid persistant academic arguments the Watchers could be having is really entertaining. I know most of it won't come up unless I deliberately work it in, but if you're writing Highlander stuff, I encourage you to do the thought exercise "what completely opposing viewpoints could chroniclers hold about" your Immortal subject. I guarantee you modern Watchers can have beef with their contemporaries, some of their teachers, and one or more Watchers from centuries past. And arguing about conspiracies and rumours, or was such-and-such really present during whatever event.

But like, Joe thought at least 2 of Duncan' MacLeods past chroniclers were idiots with completely incorrect interpretations of Duncan's personality, and that was before he met the man.

Keeping track of Amanda's actual thefts probably has rules about what can be considered a confirmed theft versus a highly probably one, and reading her chronicles it's probably obvious two long-dead Watchers, themselves seperated by centuries, would have thrown hands had they ever interected because the more recent one took the earlier ones methods and conclusions as a personal insult.

Also, chat handles are a chance to intermix puns, literary references, and obscure but boring alphanumetic codes. The choices give insight on the personality of the Watchers themselves, and a little on what they think of their subjects.

Love Is Not All
by Edna St. Vincent Millay

Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sink
And rise and sink and rise and sink again;
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath,
Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone;
Yet many a man is making friends with death
Even as I speak, for lack of love alone.
It well may be that in a difficult hour,
Pinned down by pain and moaning for release,
Or nagged by want past resolution's power,
I might be driven to sell your love for peace,
Or trade the memory of this night for food.
It well may be. I do not think I would.

stand with your lover on the ending earth
by e. e. cummings

stand with your lover on the ending earth-

and while a(huge which by which huger than
huge)whoing sea leaps to greenly hurl snow

suppose we could not love,dear;imagine

ourselves like living neither nor dead these
(or many thousand hearts which don’t and dream
or many million minds which sleep and move)
blind sands,at pitiless the mercy of

time time time time time

-how fortunate are you and i,whose home
is timelessness:we who have wandered down
from fragrant mountains of eternal now

to frolic in such mysteries as birth
and death a day(or maybe even less)

So the fic I've been developing for my HLSS recipient has been a good reflection of my thematic approach to the holidays this year: fun, upbeat, maybe a little silly, but with a lot of heart. I was inspired by a conversation in an unrelated discord reacting to a movie trailer and how it could be done better than the story they seem to be presenting.

But then today my cat was put to sleep. She got terminally sick really rapidly, I had about 17 hours to cuddle and spoil her while she was on painkillers, and now she's gone.

I am still going to write for HLSS, but I have a strong feeling it won't be the same lighthearted story I had in the works.

Check out the art inspired by one of the songs I submitted (Laisse-la rêver by Roch Voisine) done by the talented sloaners and posted on tumblr:

https://sloaners.tumblr.com/post/617886950973636608/breathe-a-30-minute-art-challenge-on

They both have such pretty hair. *hearteyes*

Sloaners also has done some of my favourite Naruto fanart. ♥

So, recently a discord I have the pleasure of being a member of had a little event wherein everyone who wished to participate submitted two songs containing no English and a list of languages they understand, and received two songs containing no languages they know, which they were to listen to one or both of and in a 30 minute period produce something of their choice.

I used only one of my received songs as inspiration: Aldan reyð by the Faroese band ORKA, which can be heard on the tube of you here: https://youtu.be/Y25l39m6IX8 (I also didn't watch the video.) I wrote some original fiction, which I did not finish in the allotted time. Literally stopped mid sentence.

Right now, in my time zone, it's a little past midnight into the last day of the twenty-teens. I'm drinking tea and eating chocolate cake. There's a lot of things in the world that make me scream just to think about, but this.

This is okay.

I've received my assignment for the Highlander Shortcuts ~*Secret Santa*~ so I say who it is or what exactly I'm working on, but *claps hands and rubs them together* I am now brainstorming.

I saw Longmire listed at least twice in the potential crossovers of various signups for Highlander Holiday Shortcuts, so I looked up what it was and now I'm ...kinda tempted to watch the thing? ^^;

"Did Desmond Miles and Kurt Hummel live in Brooklyn at the same time?"

The thought persisted until I grabbed my phone and braved the hellscape that is the GLEE timeline.

Answer: it might be possible.

My brain then tried to spin stories where they somehow met and when I tried to shut it down with "but what would a 25 year old bartender and an 18 year old Vogue intern have in common?" it finally let me sleep.

Hey there!

Firstly, if there's a character you really love but who didn't make it to the end of the series, feel free to write about them, AU them as surviving. (As long as it's not Kenny or Horton.) And if there's a fandom you're really jamming on right now you think would make an awesome crossover with Highlander, feel free to write that, too! Good crossovers are how I wind up in new fandoms most of the time.

This year I have a couple scenarios I'd like to especially throw out there, although if you aren't feeling it, don't force yourself. I have kind of hinted at one in my "Preferences" in the sign-up.

The first one is Immortals dealing with our modern world. Smartphones, memes, fashion, participating in/commenting on modern society and/or politics. It interests me to imagine how they would adapt.

The second one is the supernatural or magical. Highlander has a sort of magical realism going for it anyway, exploring that or amping it up strikes me as something I'd like to read.

I have been asked before what I mean, in my sign-up, by "things that used to be food or people in a sexual or dining context" and the answer is fucking or eating bodily waste or dead humans. So no scat, watersports, cannibalism, necrophilia, etc.I'm just very much not into any of that.

Finally, I've allowed Anonymous comments for this post, so if you have a burning question, go ahead. amand-r has specifically asked we not do this in the email giving assignments (or at least in the one I got, lol), and that such questions go through her, so I've gone back to not allowing anonymous comments. Sorry! but she has a point about accidentally commenting non-anon, I've done that, too.

Thank you for your writing efforts, I hope you have fun!
eliyes: (Ban roar)
The downside of doing a Secret Santa fic exchange is that when people leave lovely comments on your fic, you have to wait to beam love and appreciation back at them.
eliyes: (Hyouga herk)
So I am doing the Highlander Holiday Shortcuts Fic Exchange again this year ( https://hlh-shortcuts.dreamwidth.org/ ) and I'm pretty stoked because I like the idea I came up with and I'm having fun writing it.

Except I can't come up with a decent title. (_ )_

This is a frequent problem of mine. Also, as it's a secret santa type thing where the authors are revealed after everyone has a chance to guess who wrote what, I can't just, frex, post a summary on here and ask for suggestions.

So my apologies, Recipient, if you are reading this after you get it and the title is kinda blah. I tried.

Today I was reading an Avengers fanfic -- as in, set during the movie -- with switching POVs and encountered an author's note that said for Steve's POV they weren't going to use contractions "because they probably didn't have those in the 40s".

...

WHAT THE FUCK.

Like, do the tiniest bit of research! Watch a movie from the 40s! Hello, listen to some music! Louis Jordan recorded Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby? in 1943. The song Isn't It Romantic? was in at least 5 movies between 1932 and Steve shipping out!

PICK UP ANY PLAY BY SHAKESPEARE, YOU WILL FIND CONTRACTIONS IN IT, THEY PREDATE THE 1940S BY A LOT!!!

Or, if you can't be bothered with even the tiniest bit of research or thought, fucking watch the Avengers movie. Steve uses contractions. Or did you somehow miss the infamous, "Son, just don't."?????

*flails around in aggravation*

So I saw someone ranting about how Obi-Wan is terrible because when the Jedi Council were like "no, this kid is too dangerous to train" he agreed and said they should send him back to Tatooine, which is totally harsh because the kid was a slave.

Yes.

Except.

Did Obi-Wan actually know Anakin had been a slave, at that point? I admit I haven't rewatched Ep I since it was in theaters, but I don't remember if that information had been relayed to him at that point. I checked a copy of the script online and it doesn't show in dialogue, but scripts are never 100% accurate.

I mean, if he knew, yes, that's harsh, but if he didn't? I mean clearly not everyone on Tatooine is a slave, look at Luke.

So I'm wondering if he knew. And if he didn't, like... when did he find out? Did he find out? That would have been one hell of a shocker to have come up once he was training the kid, I bet.

Character ask meme from [personal profile] taichara and/or [personal profile] kalloway -- I haven't done one of these is aaaaaages....

Give me a character (or more than one, lol) and I'll tell you:

• what they'd do if they had a kitten in their shorts
• what they'd do if sent on a multi-week camping trip
• their most fabulous moment in canon
• what they'd sing at karaoke (and how they'd do)
• what they think about in the shower
• what they'd do if someone appeared claiming to be their kid from the future
• what they'd do if someone appeared claiming to be their kid from the past
• what kind of hobbies they have
• if their hair color is natural and how I know
• if this character is dead, and if so, if they can get better

I'm alive!

Probably a surprise, since I haven't posted in.... a couple years, wow, but I am not, in fact, dead. I have no real explanation for my absence? I have continued to write and if I can prick up the gumption to actually type up some of the stuff filling my notebooks (granted, a lot of it is snippets of WIPs or plotbunnies that need fleshing out, even if they're already pages long...) there may be some actual activity on this account! And also on my AO3. *skritches chin thoughtfully* I suppose one day I may even post on my FFnet account, who knows...

Just now realised I forgot to repost this here after the author reveals last year!

Title: Starts With "Imm-"
Author: feathermint
Real Author Name: eliyes
Written for: argentum_ls
Crossover with: Teen Wolf (the live action TV show that began airing in 2011)
Characters/Pairings: Lydia Martin, Ceirdwyn, Alex Raven, Jackson Whittemore (mentions of others from both canons). Lydia Martin/Jackson Whittemore (het).
Rating: PG for discussion of canon-typical violence.
Author's Notes: You've written Lydia multiple times, so I figured it would be okay use her as the POV character. This was literally the first thing I thought of when they said Lydia was Immune.
Summary: Lydia Martin goes for a scholarship interview with representatives of the Rebecca Horne Foundation and has some surprising information about her future opportunities explained to her.

That's impossible. )

Just another of the many, many puns and references in Harry Potter:

"Lucius fights to reclaim Gaul from his treacherous tribune Frollo at the time of King Arthur's rise to power. After Arthur conquers Gaul, word of his great deeds reaches Rome, and Lucius demands that Arthur pay him tribute and recognize him as his sovereign. When Arthur refuses, Lucius invades the land of Arthur's allies on the continent, and Arthur and his knights hurry across the English Channel to do battle with him. Arthur defeats Lucius and adds Italy to his lands."

Title: Black Doings in Azkaban
Fandom: Harry Potter
Summary: Locked away in Azkaban prison, Sirius takes the advantage of the arrival of his cousin Bellatrix to help his godson.
Author's Note: This is an AU jumping-off point. I don't know that I'll ever continue with this story, and I don't know that I won't.

A conversation between inmates with far-reaching consequences. )

Well, it's surprising that the embedding of the quiz results went snafu, but the actual results were less so.

I took The Greek Godly Parent Quiz, aimed at Percy Jackson fans, and I got Hermes!

Which is my unsurprise.

There was a cool picture of Hermes here but see above about embedding issue.

This is a bittersweet duet from Koko wa Greenwood. "Amayadori" does literally mean "take shelter from the rain" but also connotes how people from very different backgrounds can, for a time, share a space together because of it, and then part. I love this song because not only is it a perfect image song for the deeper level of the relationship between the two characters (whose voice actors are) mainly singing it, but it is also the essential underlying theme for the entire series. The school, and more specifically the dorm, Greenwood, is the great tree under which most of the students find themselves meeting and sharing a space, before parting again to go out into the world, and possibly never meet again.

I'm kind of disappointed that I can't find any crossovers for Night Hood and Harry Potter. I mean, they even got an actor with a very similar hair colour to Arsène's to play Remus in the movies, surely the visuals work. Imagine if Arsène Lupin, gentleman burglar, was a wizard and that's how he could do all that he did. Or better, he wasn't a wizard, but since his skills of thievery and disguise were just so elite, someone from the wizarding world was made to investigate if it was a wizard using their magic to mess with the muggles, and fell in love. He'd be the right age to be Remus' grandfather*, it could totally work. He doesn't even have to be Remus' actual grandfather; having awesome burglary inclined relations on the continent could only be useful to a member of the Order, during the first War against Voldemort, right? Cousins!

The closest I've found, and this is really stretching, is the Lupin family being originally from France and moving to England because Beauxbatons wouldn't accept a werewolf student and Dumbledore did.

* I judge this thusly: I am two years younger than Harry Potter. By all accounts, Lily and the Marauders seem to have been within 5 years of how old my mom was when she had me. Her mother was born during WWII. Night Hood seems to take place in the 20s, and Arsène doesn't have a kid during the show, so a child soonish after the show would be the right age to be Remus Lupin's dad's generation.

We (tai and I) have a character who killed Madonna to spite his estranged father, who is a fan of her music.

We did this before Lady Gaga was a thing, and now are reconsidering.
