In 1981,
Uncanny X-Men #146 was published. In it, there was a panel in which we see the room of "college sophomore Bobby Drake". I have blown up
the pertinent panel and labeled it with (red) numbers on a few things I want to point out.
1. Skis! :D
2. "YIELD" sign. Naughty Bobby, vandalizing municipal signage like that.
3.
Space Cruiser Yamato poster. THAT'S RIGHT! An
anime poster right over his bed in '81. *hugs him*
4. He's got one of those beds where the headboard is a bookcase. :D I love those things, the bed I left at my parents' is like that. It's super handy.
5. A centerfold has been taped to the wall. Classy.
6. This is a bra. A bra which is nailed to a plaque on the wall. Wouldn't you
love to know what the story behind that one is?
7. Whatever this is, it's purple. It might be a sock? It might be briefs, or a sleeve?
8. "STA WA" is probably "STAR WARS" -- I think this is the movie soundtrack on record. I submit for your consideration that Hank McCoy had every single episode of the original Star Trek series on VHS. Do you think they had that stereotypical Trekkie vs Warsian thing going? ;3
9. Another record, this time the self-titled
first album of KISS. I'm always interested in his musical tastes, I admit. Do you think any of those other records are any of the seven other albums KISS put out before this issue saw print? :D
10. Look! Stubble! I don't think we'll see it on Bobby's face again for another 300 issues of UXM.
Items 2, 5, and 6 lead me to believe that this is a dorm room as opposed to a room at his parents' house. I could be wrong. I don't actually own this issue -- I just have the one right after it. ;_;
Also, I think he mustn't have any overhead lights in that room, because he's got like three lamps that we can see.
