What birthday? Nobody turned 40 today! 40 is old! Ha, you kids with your mockery...

Chances are, you've never heard of CLUTCH. It's a fairly obscure Canadian film made in 1998. Sure, it won a couple of awards. You've still probably never heard of it.

Unless, like me, you know that the first name showing in the opening credits was "DAVID HEWLETT".

And that's probably why you watched it.

(Some people who comment on IMDb.com apparently watched it because ExpressVu was promoting how Tom Green was in it, and were tipped into blackest angst when he was in, like, a minute of screentime. As an unnamed character. Which I thought was great, because I can't stand him.)

But there was a wonderful surprise for me, because you see, there are basically 4 protagonists, in two pairs, one of whom are together throughout the film, and one of whom actually seem to become a couple. David Hewlett is in one of these, and GORDON MICHAEL WOOLVETT is in the other.

:D :D :D :D

And they're roommates. (DH and GMW.)

Spoilers about plot and further casting commentary under here ) Oh!

Filmmakers seem to have a contractual obligation to make David Hewlett, in whatever he's in, be:
a. wet
b. naked
c. wet and naked
d. bloody

This is an "a" and "d". He's wearing a suit and long coat throughout, even when riding a tiny bicycle up a hill. But he washes his face because he is, of course, bleeding, and we see this from below. It's a neat angle.

His uncanny ability to down an entire glass of something without stopping to breathe or gagging was, alas, not employed in this film.

Not even the Internet can answer that ubiquitous question:
David Hewlett, how are you so AWESOME?
;3

Feb. 9 '08 update: Someone put in an answer. D:

[livejournal.com profile] apathocles posted an interesting (*dodges bricks*) meme "where someone comments, and the person whose journal it is lists seven of the commenter's interests, and the commenter has to explain them." I poked her, and here's the 7 of mine she wanted explained:

I'm chatty, so I'll put this behind a cut )

There's a lot of giggling. Watch it here!

Y'know, when I see on dGeek's Twitter "Two episodes Feels like I'm back in Cube", I get a little concerned. I've seen Cube. It's about a mostly-lethal, almost totally inescapable prison. (That dGeek's character helped build! And does not survive!)

I'm hoping he's talking about the decorations or the lighting or the grueling filming schedule or something. >_>

In other news ("news", ha) I had a series of interrupted freaky dreams last night )

Unrelatedly, it would be possible to rewrite at least the beginning of Powers That Be with John Sheppard as the lead. Hm.

Mary Hewlett has a blog, and the most recent entry is about her son David's squirrel antics. XD Yes, that David Hewlett.

I am working on a fanfic for Kingdom Come, God help me. I vaguely blame [livejournal.com profile] apathocles. I can't decide whether to take it to the end or leave it when Ted's still alive. Hell, I could cut out all the stuff about Ted's heart and call it done with what I have. It'd be short... :/

There was more... *thinks*

Okay, so I've been wanting to do something with the pre-sent-off-to-school, i.e. still-living-on-Ship X-Terminators (much as I kid of adore Rictor's post-sent-off-to-school makeover, I just can't deal with Taki). At the moment I'm toying with having them somehow wind up in the X-Men: Evolution universe. But can reality withstand two Boom-Booms? And how much antagonism between Rictor and Lance would I really want to indulge in? It would make more sense for Rusty and Skids to be RAR at him, because Avalanche was one of the members of Freedom Force that tried to arrest Rusty when Skids met him. Even if I never write anything, it's been a useful thought exercise. For example, since Skids was a Morlock, she's probably heard of or even seen some of the X-Men. Kitty, for example, since she knows Caliban. I'm sure she's heard of Storm, as well, since by the point Skids is introduced, Storm is leader of the Morlocks and all.

More rambling about the kids under here, especially Rictor )

Okay, so, David Hewlett has a twitter thing and he updates it to make it easier for his fans to stalk him. (Yes, deliberately. He stalks back; I feel it's fair.) This is a great way to find out little tidbits about his movie, A Dog's Breakfast, working on Stargate: Atlantis, what's up with his fiancée, what the weather's like in Vancouver, who might be at what convention, and also he tells people when he's exercising and dieting, which I understand is helping some of his fans stick to their dieting/exercising thing of choice. Right on.

He also talks about his co-workers. Screencap:

That is just adorable on so many levels.

Oh -- I forgot to mention earlier, but when I was being trained for a new site, the person training me brought up David Hewlett in conversation. :3

HE'S EVERYWHERE! :D :D
