This emotional honesty can often complicate matters for Bobby, especially in matters of love. Sometimes Bobby is looked down upon as being immature, but this is just a guise for his insecurities and well noted fear of change, he is easily made emotionally uncomfortable by his own short-comings and this often alters Bobby's child-like joviality into sullen moodiness (which does not help in the perception that he is immature).

This is also the same guy who thought it was a good idea and in character for Bobby to hook up with Mystique.

Good idea? Not so much. In character? Considering how it was set up, it actually was. Bobby has a history of getting involved with bad girls trying to reform, and with being drawn to strong women who are in a moment of needing emotional support. They basically set him up for that. (If she'd been amnesiac as well, it would have been too obvious.)

Perahps, but it was MYSTIQUE and Bobby's not supposed to be stupid. It should have been obvious to all of them that she was going to stab them in the back. Bobby should be good at reading people, that's how funny guys work.
