I used to think Bobby's hairdo in X-Men: Evolution was probably not physically possible. Okay, maybe with a lot of product.

And then I realised...

o_o

That hair! It's real! :O

Ahhhhh adorable Warren is adorable! 8D

So I'm watching X-Men: Evolution (season 3 episode 9) "Under Lock and Key", and there's a little bitty scene when Gambit is breaking in to Warren's mansion in the middle of the night when we see a shot of Warren's bedroom.

He stretches his wings in his sleep and makes a little nyup-nyup noise, it's SOOOOO CUUUUUUTE! *hugs him forever*

eta continuing glee: YAAAAY this is the episode with The Baseball Game ("MUTANT BALLLLLLL!!") and this is the episode where the original five X-Men from the comics get to team up. ;3 I'ma be soooo happy!

As-we-go burbling under here. )

The perils of watching things on the internet: I was watching the episode "Adrift" in season 2 of X-Men: Evolution, and about 9 or 10 minutes in (i.e. right when we go from "ALEX?! AHHHHLEHHHHHHHHHX!!" to "Scott? Scott? SCAWWWWWWWWWT!") the video cut out. I don't want to go from audio only. :( I wanna see Scott sinking in the ocean, dammit! I wanna see if it's the coast guard, the X-Men, or the boys themselves who save the day. Also: Alex and Scott are so entertainingly alike in their recklessness when confident.

The previous episode rocked hardcore, however. I love the Evo Hank as much as the 90s cartoon Hank at the very least. :3 I didn't expect to! Because the 90s cartoon voice for Hank is essentially what I hear in my head when I read him, and this is a different voice, but it works very well.

Was Boom Boom the only new recruit old enough to go to high school? That doesn't seem right, since I'm pretty sure Bobby (frex) is 15 when we first meet him. But other than her, none of them seem to go to Bayville High. Nor do they show up when Xavier telepathically wakes everyone with "to me, my X-Men!" "All students to the first floor" in the wee small hours. Maybe he only called the blooded heroes? Because he was putting two of them in charge? It's just kinda weird. Do they not live at the Institute? Do they live there, but have meals at a different time than the Bayville-attending kids? They're never there at breakfast, at least not thus far. eta: Just watching the episode "African Storm", it's pretty clear the new recruits are at the Institute itself while the others are at school.

Wow, it took all the way to the second episode of season 2 for someone to scream "JEEAAAN!"

Yesterday, I finished watching the first season of X-Men: Evolution, and watched the first episode of second season. I'm really liking the show. I hope the additions to the cast will be half as entertaining as the people we have first season. Also, Scott is a dork.

Scott: Mister Wagner, teleporter to full power!
Kurt: Aye, Captain!
Scott: Engage!
...in front of Rogue. Oh, dude. XD He and Kurt have grown to be pretty great friends, which amuses me.

There was a lot to take in, mainlining a series like this, but some key points:

1) I really like this Wolverine; I even kind of enjoyed the retelling of the Weapon X thing, and I seriously didn't expect to. He's such a huge softy with the kids half the time, too.
Wolverine: "Don't turn those puppy dog eyes on me. You're all grounded."
Spyke: "For how long?" *makes puppy eyes*
Wolverine: ...*sigh* "I dunno." *gives fairly short parameters*

2) I like Rogue, too. Hell, I like the kids in the Brotherhood so far, except the Blob. (I've never liked the Blob, although I thought having him work monster truck rallies was a good idea, especially with that little shout-out to his original story: "If you're from the circus, I'm not interested." I LOLed.) I even like Toad, for some strange reason, and Pietro is amusing in his sleazeball impatience. There's pre-powered Pietro/Evan shounen ai out there, yeah? Someone? Anyone? Bueller?

3) Magneto is a crazy person. I wasn't expected quite so much nuttery from him, but I guess this kind of thing happens when you use your own brainwashing device on yourself. *facepalm* Granted, he seems to have been a real shit 16 years ago, too.

4) The handling of Mystique is awesome so far. I know that the main writer for this season wanted to kinda go a different way with her and wasn't allowed to do as much as he wanted, but even so, she's very true to her late Silver Age characterization, with a dash of a well-handled rework of baby Kurt's fate. Seriously, I can watch her in season one and see the Mystique that met up with Storm in a dance club and taunted her. She's got that kind of vibe.

5) I don't hate Prof X or Alex (yet, anyway)! THIS IS AMAZING, SIR. :o Alex's voice seemed so tantalizingly familiar that I just had to look him up, and geeze, no wonder. VA babble omg XD )
5 b) Playing the VA game with these people is fun, and a lot of them have worked together before. XD And I can totally play the dGeek connection game with most of them.

In conclusion: I'm liking this show.

* Amusingly always listed as Yoroiden Samurai Troopers dub on IMDb.com XD
** Hey, maybe the entire Ronin Warriors cast is here!

So I watched the first episode of X-Men: Evolution this morning. Even though I know the animation will actually get a little smoother, the quality so far is pretty good. The soundtrack is wicked, by which I mean people grunt when they exert themselves physically, there's background noise, layered crowd stuff, the whole nine yards. We see Todd waiting outside the Principal's office, deliberately squeaking his shoes on the floor, and when he walks in, there's still little squeaks. I was impressed.

But Todd. Oh, Todd. The voice actor is awesome. The constant broken off sentences, trying to sound tough during his"audition", the scream of terror, the way he totally doesn't know how to sound friendly and instead comes off like he's sleazily hitting on Scott? It's all gold, man.

And Scott! <3 "C'mon, Professor! I'm packing a bazooka behind each eye! What do you want from me?!" I am experiencing an emotion. It might be love.

For some reason, my brain keeps trying to mix Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends into this. Just Aurora. Just for some backstory. And then add the Beaubier twins. Man, JM would light a fire under Quicksilver, mock him for being groundbound, and then JP would probably KO him for, like, upsetting his sister. The thought is so... heart-warming. >3

Code Geass is a fast-paced and exciting show featuring diabolical high school students, international war and intrigue, and lollerskating mecha. They do hinting well -- I can guess that something is up, but have yet to figure out what. That's good hinting. Subtle foreshadowing, that sort of thing. There was a scene where Lelouche and Suzaku are each explaining themselves, completing one another's sentences even though they're not in the same place, and I love that kind of thing. Motivations so very similar, directed in different ways.

In Gurren Lagann, we finally got to the prison scenes! And Yoko! The first of the "7 years later" post-skip episodes left me kinda cold, I will admit, but it picks up right after that. I am more in love with Carrot Kittan than ever, and wish someone had dropped the Tepperin on Rossiu back in the day. What a DICKHEAD. Also, Leeron is SO SMART. :D AND KEITE*! THE ENGINEER CHICK! I want to be her when I grow up, man.

*Possibly her name is Reite. I SUCK at remembering her name.

This is just a drabble. I've mixed an element or two from the 616's Bobby's background for flavour.

This is Bobby Drake, as seen in the animated series X-Men: Evolution.

When I went to my Friendly Local Comic Book Store the other day, I skimmed the new books out for this Skrull invasion thingy.

Not really impressed, here.

Lately, every time Marvel does something that makes me really unhappy with what they're doing with the mutants, my mind flees to the animated versions. I loved the 90s animated series when it was on. I have discovered that Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends is kinda terrible but addictive and hysterically funny to watch. And right now, (not for the first time) I am really really wanting to watch X-Men: Evolution. Sure, it's an AU -- it admits to being an AU. But it's an AU with it's own continuity, that seems to stick with that continuity pretty good, sets up plots in advance, and seems to have some pretty decent characterization.

And I keep getting fic ideas for it. (See previous post.) I generally like to have actually seen more than fanvids and clips on YouTube (and really kickin' fanart by [livejournal.com profile] croaky) to really write for a show, I have to admit.

So I may be trying to track this show down soon.
