Things you might have heard had you been listening in while we watched four episodes of Gundam Wing today (in no particular order, and paraphrased where I don't recall exact wording):

DOO doodle-it doo doodle-it dooo! Doodle-it-doo-noo doodle-it-doodle-it-doo-doo-doooo! )

...doodle-it doo doodle-it-doo-noo-doo, doodle-it-doodle-it-doodle-it doooo doo-noo...

You know, it's kind of hilarious (in a not-very-funny way) that so many people who draw Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn together make Ivy taller. Because she's not. Yes, Harley is a short, peppy blonde as compared to Batman, but Dr. Pamela Isley started out as a tiny angry genius of a woman. Alas, she has gotten taller in the comics over time -- blame whoever cast Uma Thurman, I guess.

With Pied Piper and Trickster, it's the opposite -- everyone makes Tricks taller and Piper kinda girly, when actually Piper is taller and has a heavier build. This would be because Trickster is an acrobat, and therefore needs to be strong but light. (See Nightwing.) In fact, when they were admitting to Piper's age and had him retired from crime, they at first had him put on a bit of weight, which didn't look too bad. He's broader than Wally, in the shoulders and face, etc.

I so need sleep. X_X

Boostlethon submission is awaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Holy cats, people -- you may recall that last time I finished my fic and it was 44 words too short until I jiggered with it? Well, I have no idea how long this one was, because I stopped keeping track after I passed 1024 with two pages to go.

Now is the part where I wait to see if the prompter hates it aaaaaaugh

*rewards self with really messy Greek take-out and chapter 13 of As The Morning Shows The Day*

Guess what I bought? :D

If your answer is "books", then you're catching on. ;3

In fact, today I bought 6 books, one of which is the reprint version of Killing Time! So now I can do a comparison read and identify all the slashy bits they took out. ;D

I also bought The Vulcan Academy Murders, which I had read previously. There's only two things about the book that sort of dissatisfy me: Kirk falling into an obvious (to the reader) trap, and Spock's characterization in general. But this book has a lot of warm fuzziness. Sarek/Amanda! Sorel/T'Zan! Daniel/T'Mir! Kirk and T'Pau have a quite interesting moment, as well; she's a very difficult character to handle, but I think the author succeeded. And, of course, this is the book where Vulcans As Inveterate Matchmakers is explicitly stated, with logical reasons for. XD When I find the passage, I'll quote it. I recommend this one for light reading with some detective work (on Kirk's part) and a whole lot of warm fuzzies. Don't be put off by the vaguely greasy cover art of Spock With Phaser Versus A Lizard-Jaguar -- that doesn't even happen in the book!

I also picked up The IDIC Epidemic, which takes place during 1st five-year mission, and The Last Roundup, which takes place after The Undiscovered Country. Check out the middle paragraph of the blurb on the back:
Bored with retirement, and ill-suited to teaching at Starfleet Academy, Kirk jumps at the chance to help his young nephews colonize an uninhabited planet in a distant corner of the Alpha Quadrant. He even manages to persuade Scotty and Chekov to come along for the ride.

"He even manages to persuade Scotty and Chekov to come along for the ride." By the Great Bird of the Galaxy, I hope that conversations in there!!! XD

(I also picked up two non-Trek books: Martian Knightlife and The Golden Shield of IBF, about which I shall say no more until I've read them.)

To my great joy today, Star Trek was on a random channel, and to my further delight, it was the episode "A Piece of the Action". If the name doesn't ring any bells, it's the one with the gangsters. Or, as I like to call it, the episode where the Prime Directive is totally fucked, but they have a lot of fun. And also they didn't start it. XD Nothing like cleaning up somebody's messes! Oh, what a happy-making show it is, it is~

Highlights! )
Bye now. ;3 ♥ \\//_

Watching Ava Gardner clips on YouTube was followed by about 2 days of watching Kirk/Spock fanvids on YouTube, which lead to me Googling "Kirk/Spock" to find a) there's a wikipedia entry for Kirk/Spock and b) there's an All-Ages Kirk/Spock Archive. You guys, there is a fanfic on there written by a five-year-old, and you know what? It's more in character than a lot of other K/S fics I've seen! (Including ones on that site.)

I have been fighting off an urge to write a story about Federation Ambassadors, primarily because I can't decide who would be more fun to play with Lwaxana Troi: Sarek or Spock. I think I am losing this fight. ;_;

(For those in the know: comparison of meaning between t'hy'la and imzadi? Anyone? Bueller?)

{I'd be better off writing "Lwaxana Troi meets Lady Alys Vorpatril", honestly. They'd try to get Ivan hitched to Deanna, it would be an utter disaster! "No, dear, not Betan -- Betazoid. And Mister Homn is not a mutant -- his whole species looks that way."}

I decided to go to Memory Alpha and find out how old Kirk and Spock are (comparatively and in general), and also to find out if it's true Kirk started at Starfleet Academy when he was 15. (Kirk's entry broke my browser it is so hyoooooojuh! ;o;) Answers: Spock is 1 year older than Kirk, and 155 when he was shunted to the altered/alternate timeline seen in the new movie. And nobody knows how the hell old Kirk was when he started at the Academy! He was older than 13, certainly, since he was on another planet when he was 13 witnessing horrific genocide and saving small children, but he was definitely there by the time he was 17, at which point he was "a Lieutenant" and may have been an instructor or student-instructor, rather than just a student, it's really not clear. *grumps*

I have also been fighting off an urge to write stories where new!Uhura gets to keep new!Spock because new!Kirk is really far more interested in/emotionally attached to old!Spock. My attempts to fight this one led to me writing new!Spock waking up in old!Spock's body at some point in the past -- and also in old!Kirk's bed. I gave that up and caved to writing n!Kirk and n!Uhura stuck in a cave-in, and Jim somewhat deliriously explaining his love for Spock to her. It's really terrible.

*sigh* I seriously need to stop falling in love with Shatner, I really do.

Hey, I found a handy visual guide to the women of Stargate (both shows). It' sup-to-date into 2006, so, frex, Larrin's not in it. (Oh how I despise Larrin.) This is useful for reminding me how people look, although I could wish there'd been a pic of Cadman with her hat off.

Also, there's another Nascar SGA fic out there, but it's posted on an f-locked journal. :( It's called "Stick Shift", and I know about it because I found an adorable fanart...

I love Rusty. I love Skids. I love Bobby MORE now and Hank and Warren and Scott does hallucinatingly crazy in some really interesting ways. I love BoomBoom and Cameron Hodge is A CRAFTY BASTARD holy moley!

Rictor~ *hugs him* Rictor and Skids and Rusty!

Leech~ omigod he's a cutie, I love his smile as he just climbs on Bobby or Hank.

I know I'm not being coherant. I just read 27 comics in one night, and those older comics are fuckin' DENSE man. *hugs them, despite plastic bags and pointy corners*

Okay, I love X-Factor. It's well written, the art is usually pretty good - if I can just beat my scanner into cooperation, I have some scannable things earmarked - and it's just GUH YES.

I'll try to go into detail later.

Meanwhile, that issue of X-Force? Amusing and weirdly sweet (Domino, you bog softie!) and funyn and jesus, Rictor, how many times have you cut off and grown out your hair at this point? :O Cable has a law degree. Jimmy is made of win.

Shatterstar has apparently been inundating his teammates (or at least Rictor) with stories of his world. This makes him = Benton Fraser? He's wearing enough red, that's for sure.

I decorated the apartment! :D (God, I am so having an allergic reaction to the old old old crochet ornaments my mom gave me.) I taped shiny white garlands to the tops of a few walls and hung silver balls from the loops, there's a wreathy centerpiece on the table, and teddies and snowmen and angels and CHRISTMAS PENGUINS everywhere! :D

I'm decorating the tree when I get up.

For the record, Christmas Penguins are different from my usual army of penguins in that they generally get packed away after Christmas because they are breakable, and some of them have angels. Many of my penguins wear hats and scarves anyway, so that's no indicator, but I do have a penguin ornament wearing a Doctor Who scarf! XD

Oh, and I found some stuff when I was digging out the tree: grad pics, colour pencils, stone collection, and - most importantly - Feathers. Yes, my first stuffed (well, beanie baby) penguin, Feathers McGraw, had been languishing in a box in the storage closet with my graduation hat and yearbook since the move! He is SAVED! He is sitting in a prime spot on Big Penguin's head, and he dearly needs a wash.

What else what else...

Oh! Writing fic. I am, that is. Christmas fic! It has nothing at all to do with candy canes, either. If I'm quick like a bunny, I'll have it done and posted before Christmas is over. The fic itself takes place Christmas morning and involves X-Men in their jammies. Well. One of them is in jammies, anyway.

La la la la la!

Aaaand one last thing: I'll be working night shifts straight through Christmas, possibly 12-hour ones. I might not be on much, as I can no longer access wifi from work. (They moved the thingy.)
