I was expecting Simon Illyan to look a bit like Illya Kuryakin, and he does.

I was taken by surprise when Duv Galeni looked like Kerr Avon and Elena Bothari-Jesek looked like Servalan. X3 LAughing like a loon at my desk is a go!

(Elli Quinn also looks familiar but I can't put my finger on it...)

Oh man King sparring with Steph Brown would be THE AWESOMEST.

(Well actually King vs Dinah Lance would be The Awesomest.)

So I'm having a Heart video marathon on youtube, for... reasons, and rewatching the video for Nothing At All, I am shocked -- shocked! -- that it's never come up in a Sentinel fic, or at least had all the lovely panther footage cannibalised for a TS fanvid. Seriously. (The kitten is also cute.)

I actually got to see Heart in concert, once. :3

I really think that maybe running a spell check or checking google or looking at a screencap or poster so that you correctly spell the name of the badass covert operations headed by Nick Fury wouldn't be very hard, but since apparently it totally is, here is a handy mnemonic device to help you out:

I before E
except after C
or in words with an "ay"
like neighbour and weigh

In other words, there is no such organization as "SHEILD".

Hope that was helpful,
Ely

Captain's Log:

Until today, I was an ensign aboard a ship, studying asteroids. Today, everyone on my ship was killed and I, being of the highest rank left, became captain.

Supplemental:

I did not realise how small I was really was until today.

Jeffrey Combs was in an episode of The Flash (the 1990-91 live-action show). He played a crime boss named Jimmy Swain in the Captain Cold episode.

Considering the series is most known for Mark Hamill's multi-episode portrayal of the Trickster, I now have a dead-easy way to jump from Star Trek to Star Wars in a game of six degrees.
eliyes: (What a coincidence!)
Okay, so, in 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk, which is crossing over with the upcoming Avengers movie, P.J. Kerr played Jim Wilson. In the comics, Jim was one of the Hulk's sidekicks, as well as his friend, and I think possibly the first Marvel hero to die of AIDS.

He was also the nephew of Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, Captain America's longest-running partner and good friend.

Might movie Steve meet Sam? I would be happy with even something like the two of them bumping into one another on the street and Jim (played again by Kerr for maximum recognition factor) hailing him as "Uncle Sam" or even just "Sam". (Hell, someone calling out to "Uncle Sam" would get Steve's attention anyway. ;3)

...Maybe I'll fic it.

(P.S. Amadeus Cho was also attending university with Jim. Might we see Hercules at some point...?)

I WOULD WATCH THAT LIKE CRAZY.

MTV interviewer asks Marina Sirtis inappropriate question.
Jonathan Frakes begins laughing hysterically.
Marina answers very dryly.
Jonathan has to cover his face with his hand and cross everything to muffle his continuing mirth.

...I love the actors' friendship; I started off disliking both their characters quite a bit, but eventually the genuine ebil affection that shone through from the actors (and JFrakes general silliness) won me grudgingly over.

(Deanna's powers are still ridiculous.)

Gotta say, I definitely like the Monochrome Factor manga better than the anime. The anime went into this weird Shounen ai-ish place were Neeze is a total lech, which is not remotely the case in the original manga. So far in the manga (I have read to the end of volume 3) the only lech we've met has been Kengo's sister.

It's a fighting manga with supernatural elements and destiny that got frigged up and team elements.

May I point out that I own all of Yu Yu Hakusho? Of course I like the manga better!

So, I found a ficcer who does lots of awesome stories about minor one-shot or infrequently-recurring characters from Highlander: The Series. I especially like the fics about Cory Raines, Matthew McCormick, and Carl Robinson. (Matthew taught both of the other two.) There's a load of them that are crossovers with X-Files, because Matthew is an FBI agent when we see him in the "present", and Cory was played by Nick Lea, who played Krycek on X-Files. Now, I've seen maybe three episodes of X-Files, and none of them had Krycek, but I enjoyed the stories, for the most part. I mean, an Immortal double? An Immortal running into someone who looks just like his first student? Fighting aliens? This is often cool.

{Hilariously, Matthew's Watcher is an FBI agent named Donna Sculder. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE, WRITERS.}

[Ooh! Apparently the Matthew McCormick character was specifically created for the actor who played him and the producers considered giving him his own spin-off series. He ended up starring in Will & Grace instead. *sigh*]

«I wonder why there aren't more Once A Thief crossovers for Cory... or Leverage, or White Collar, or Breaking In, or...»

(I wish some of Matthew and Cory's history had actually been in the show, as opposed to just on the Watcher's CD, because it's strongly indicated that Matthew is actually the one who killed Cory the first time. Hung him for poaching the King's deer. (Cory is basically Robin Hood.) And then trained him. How did that conversation go, I wonder? XD)

There was also a pretty cool (on-going) crossover with Stargate focussing on Rebecca (Amanda's teacher) and her ability to find extraordinary objects (in the show, the Methuselah Stone; in the fics, various Alteran or Goa'uld thingies); it's an AU where Amanda died instead of Rebecca).

Also, a couple of stories assuming that Ramirez did, in fact, actually manage to teach Connor MacLeod some of his sorcerous tricks like, for example, breathing water. :Dd (I mentioned this to [livejournal.com profile] taichara, since she liked Conner, and she said she though he was too thick to pick that up. XD "Post-like, compared to Ramirez", she says.)

SO, ANYWAY, THE POINT OF THIS POST is that I figured I might want to watch the episodes involving Matthew, Cory, and Carl (Carl has two episodes, Matthew is in the second one of those), so I looked them up. I sort of remembered Carl, actually.

But I had forgotten he was played by Bruce A. Young. aka Captain Simon Banks from The Sentinel! with HL and TS being My Two Shows Set In Not-Seattle (Cascade and Seacouver, respectively, both meant to be expys of Seattle but filmed in Vancouver), and both having a lot of guest appearences (Immortals, criminals, Jim's old Army buddies...) I shouldn't be surprised by overlap. But it amuses me. XD

I suppose I should link to that ficcer, too. XD About half her stuff is gen, and half is slash. Check for pairing lists -- and for warnings, a few of her stories are dark. Oh! And don't miss any of the Greg Powers & Oz fics! :D They're great.

Bought a Commander Rogers action figure, put the Luke and Danny figure set on hold in my file, also bought the Callahan book I'd accidentally skipped (damn wikipedia entry listed them in the wrong order), ate a piece of chocolate cake, and watched Connie and Carla which was better than I expected and heartwarming and fun and shiny.

Give me a character (or ten) from any fandom you know I'm in, and I'll let you know:

* How I FEEEEEL about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

(For those following at home, the Stinky we are referring to is Power Girl's cat in her most recent series, not the one from JLE.)

(We then went on to speculate on whether Superman and The Eradicator would still have their psychic link while Superman was a cat, which leads to many hilarious mental images of a 200,000+ years old interplanatary death machine cuddling a teeny Supercat and talking with him very seriously. Often while Kon & Krypto, Lois, or Peej look on in bemusement. X3 )

A lot of people hold up this moment as being such a cute Bart moment, and a really great Bart & Cissie (or even Bart/Cissie) moment, and isn't he so cute how he loves Max, etc.

And they are missing one really important thing when they do this:

That's not Bart.

No, seriously, that's not Bart. That's Inertia.

That whole time Young Justice went into space in the space ship that (actual) Bart got, and they helped Doiby and they played baseball against aliens and "Bart" merged with the Infinite Man?

That's all Inertia. He had Bart trapped in a pocket dimension or something and impersonated him for a few months.

So no, that's not a Bart-Cissie hug. That's not Bart being adorable. That's not Bart.

I just spent a couple of days going through Stephanie Brown fan tumblrs, and then today I checked on my regularly followed Titans tumblrs.

It's like taking a swig of acid after enjoying a lovely milkshake and waffles. It's like getting puked on. Ugh. The Steph fen were so much more optimistic! And were nicer when they ranted! And were not just randomly horrible!

God damn it, I love the Titans, but I think I may have to divorce their online fandom again.

*uses awesome Donna icon for comfort, goes off to hug cats and/or plushies, and reread Steph's Batgirl series*

I figure it's about time I post some of the icons I've been making over the last... several, erm, months. Mostly I make this either for my own use or because I saw the possibility and thought it would be neat or funny. If you would like the use any of the icons you will see below the cut, then feel free, but please give me credit for making it.

(I put them in one picture because hey, fifteen! Easily divisble! And I don't know how to make tables! And so now you can try to identify some of the quotes before you go to my icon gallery and see my sometimes-wordy little comments about them which usually reveal context. They do for me, anyway.)

Second, click here for SGA genfic recs (a votre attention, Kiffie!) )

Now I'm taking a nap so that I can (hopefully) get up and go watch the Pride Parade (if I don't sleep through my alarm).

[livejournal.com profile] poisonivory made a post that included a review of Children of the City: At Work & At Play by David Nasaw, which she has given me permission to quote a big chunk of here.

Also, adorable surprise chapter on the newsies strike! Items of note:

- Apparently Seitz was real, his first name was Don, and his grudging admiration for the newsies is totally true.

- “The Sun, glorying in this successful strike against its two major competitors, reported in full the visit of Spot Conlon, District Master Workboy of the Brooklyn Union, who, attired in pink suspenders, walked across the Brooklyn Bridge with ‘greetings a’ promises of support…“We have tied up de scab sheets so tight dat y’ can’t buy one fer a dollar in de street. Hold out, my gallant kids, an’ to-morrer I meself, at de head of t’ree tousand noble hearts from Brooklyn will be over here t’ help youse win yer noble scrap for freedom an’ fair play.”’”

- Also mentioned: Boots McAleenan, Crutchy Morris, Racetrack Higgins, Kid Blink, and “Young Myers, sometimes called Young Mush, on account of his fondness for taking his girl to Corlears Hook Park Sunday evenings.” AWWWWWWW.

My point being: Holu shit, they were real! I knew the Newsie strike happened, but not that so many of the characters in the musical I watched as a kid were based on and named for the real people involved.

One of these days I will write a fic where (because the Thawne who cloned Thad from Bart added a little of his own DNA to make him, I dunno, Thawneier) Bart says to Inertia,

"Wow, you're even more inbred than I am."

Which is totally true, and I mean, Bart's family tree already loops back on itself.

On the other hand, since Iris was adopted, Bart and Wally aren't related by blood at all!
eliyes: (pouty MacLeod)
Man, making a fanmix is harder than I thought. I figured that the hardest bit would be getting enough songs together for the subject, so I didn't even try until I realised I was associating more than enough songs for mix with the characters in question and their relationship and story.

I have too many songs.

"Just make a big fanmix" isn't the answer, either. I have songs that could be image songs for each of them individually. I have songs which work for both of them and thus demonstrate common ground. I have songs with which I can show the arc of their most recent storyline together. I have songs that work really well as duets about their relationship in general, and at particular points. I have songs which are canonically associated with them. I have songs I associate with their friends/enemies/orther ralationships/other stories trying to sneak in.

Trying to put all these together is problematic. Figuring out which ones to drop if I decide to pare it down is also difficult.

I was gonna make this and then present it to a fancomm for the other fans of the characters to share in, but now I'm wondering if I should make a post there asking for some opinions. Maybe a poll. I'm not sure if that's even appropriate to the comm, and I kinda don't want to ruin the surprise.

Maybe I should just give them a jumble of songs arranged by loose category. :/
