Title: Au Revoir
Timing: takes place in the 21st century, before the last two pages of Adventure Comics #11 (2010)
Author's notes: This is the same Kon as in all my fic under the kon/lar tag, but a different Lar. Because DC looooves rebooting the Legion in complicated ways. (And also this is not Kon/Lar; this is gen.)

Found out Grimbor the Chainsman is in Legion Cartoon.

Welp.

Gonna have to watch it now.

*wonders if he'll be any less BDSMtacular than in the books, because he could hardly be moreso*

So, this was awesome. There were a couple of essays I plain did not read, and there was one I read that I wish I hadn't (it was about architecture ._. I am not nearly obsessed enough with the last World's Fair to have any clue what they were talking about, and I found it somewhat depressing) but other than that, most of the essays were cool. There was one about science -- written by a scientist! There was one about the multitudinous and often curiously specific rules the Legion had. The ones separately analyzing Levitz and Giffen's runs on the series were really, really well done. The one about Lightning Lad should stand through time as a really good example to give to people when they ask what I mean when I say "the Legion is complicated, but worth it".

I recommend this book! :3

They have more in common then they knew. )

So, a book arrived in the mail this morning. It's not mine -- it's for my roomie, who isn't here and gave me advance permission to open the package.

It's a book of essays about the Legion of Superheroes. Or, really, the Legions -- all of them so far.

Teenagers From the Future: essays on the Legion of Superheroes

Just reading the foreword has me all excited. The Table of Contents has me bouncing with glee like Chuck Taine. Here's just sample of some of the essay titles I figure people on my f-list might be intrigued by:

Liberating the Future: Women in the Early Legion

Revisionism, Radical Experimentation, and Dystopia in Giffen's Legion

Coming Out of Future Closets: Gender Identity and Homosexuality in the Legion

Generational Theory and the Waid Threeboot

The Racial Politics of the Legion

There are eighteen essays, plus foreword, introduction, and afterword. I am really looking forward to reading through this. :D

[livejournal.com profile] shananagin put together her second annual Put Kon [Superboy] In An Unusual Pairing-a-thon ...and the last day is tomorrow, so of course it's just tonight that I get an idea. XD Oh, well -- if I miss the date, I'll post it anyway, because the pairing I have in mind? I can't believe it's not more popular. Hell, it's not even listed once on the [livejournal.com profile] dcfic_index!

So, as much for my own reminding as to tell any of y'all, here are the comics I'm drawing my inspiration from; smart cookies in the audience will likely immediately figure out the pairing. ;3

SUPERBOY #17-19 (1995)
LEGIONNAIRES #31 (1995) {Oh, how I wish I had the two issues before this!}
THE LEGION #25-33 (2003-2004) ...Have I ever mentioned how much I love it when Batista draws Kon? No? Please consider this oversight corrected.

In other news, I've canceled my pull of BOOSTER GOLD at my FLCS. *sigh* Just... wasn't doin' it for me anymore. Mostly due to Rip.

In other other news, I bought a new backpack! It's purple with polkadots! :3
eliyes: (I can fly!)
eliyes: someone just said (i.e. I just read) that she wishes Supergirl were more like a female Clark, "since he's actually every pure hearted lead female anime character stuffed into a giant man body anyways."
eliyes: I LOLed
taichara: *snickers*
taichara: she was, once ...
taichara: ;o;
eliyes: he is way more purehearted than Tsukino Usagi, frex
taichara: indeed and amen
eliyes: GIVE THAT MAN AN IMPERIUM SILVER CRYSTAL
eliyes: he's an alien. it will work. ._.
eliyes: no fuku, though
taichara: yes i think it would. ._.
taichara: D: no fuku
eliyes: the skirt would obscure his awesome action man-panties! :D
taichara: and we can't have that! :D
taichara: we can obscure Lar's though >.>
eliyes: 'zactly
eliyes: yes
eliyes: yes we can
eliyes: perhaps with actual PANTS <.<
eliyes: (I still love his jacket-cape rig. the tool-bearing clasps! <3 )
taichara: but he is wearing pants, that's the problem >.> man-panties over billowy pants
eliyes: it's a good thing he's faster than your average bear, or else he'd be in trouble when he needs to pee ._.
taichara: yup. ._.
eliyes: (rocky horror)
You need to check out Prince Projectur and Saturn Boy. More male heroes need to wear pink bikinis with thigh-high boots, or minidresses with opera gloves and capes.

Seriously.

I especially love SPOILERS LIKE WHOA )

So much love for old Legion!!! XD <3
