Title: Weary But Unwavering
Rating: G
Fandom: DC Comics, post-boot Legion & Superboy, Kon/Lar
Timing: The LEGION #32, between pages 18 and 19. How's that for specific?
Author's notes: Part 1 of a series.
"We'll muster the troops," Jazmin said, clapping a hand on Lar's arm. "I'm sorry we can't give you more time to rest --"
"I understand, believe me," he interrupted tiredly. "Time is of the essence."
"Well, you'll have time to finish your soup, at least. Maybe take a power-nap." She raised an eyebrow and looked around at the small group of Legionnaires in the room with them. "I'm thinking... one hour?"
"Approximately," Brainy said.
They left him to himself. Lar noticed Imra get Rokk's attention and keep him looking left as they went out the door, but thought nothing of it, turning away -- until a voice spoke.
"Hey, Champ."
Lar turned back. Leaning in the doorway was an apparition, surely; that nickname with that uniform didn't immediately match in his mind.
"Superboy," he breathed.
"That's me." Superboy -- Kon, Lar reminded himself; he'd remembered watching that -- smiled at him warmly, but seemed a little uncertain of his welcome. "I just wanted to see for myself if you were okay. I guess I should let you finish getting dressed, or whatever."
Lar set his mug down and held open his arms. "Come here."
As they hugged, tightly, for a long moment. Lar closed his eyes and lingered in the comfort. Eventually -- and without letting go -- he murmured, "We have so much to talk about. I need to apologise for how I --"
"No," Kon interrupted, "I understood. I understand even better, now, I think. I've had to deal with people thinking I was a god this time around, it's pretty weird. I should say I'm sorry --"
"That was the first thing you said, when you and Brainy freed me," Lar reminded him, and was rewarded with a chuckle as Kon pressed a face into his shoulder.
"I'm surprised you were lucid enough to catch that."
"Mm." Lar meant to say more, but was interrupted by his own jaw-cracking yawn.
"I really should let you rest." Kon started to pull away.
"Yes," Lar agreed, regretfully letting him go. "But we'll talk later."
"Later," Kon replied, holding his hand up for a moment as he walked backwards to the door. He paused a moment as it opened and said, "Eat your soup," with a quirky smile.
The door shut between them, and Lar sighed deeply.

Date: 2009-05-31 10:07 am (UTC)b) I have the feeling a lot of these Kon+UNUSUAL stories leave readers going, "Ooh! I kinda want to check out when this meeting happened in canon, if it did," or, "Now I wanna know more about this other person!" Which is cool. :3

Origin of powers: natural Durlan shapeshifting
So, you've read some, but which Legion of Superheroes? Sorting out what I knew from which was a stone bitch when I started. Every time something major happens in the comics meant to be current, the future gets retconned. Sometimes it's not a total retcon -- when they decided Superman had never been Superboy, when they erased Supergirl from existence -- but a few times the timeline has been altered so drastically that instead of a retcon, there's a reboot. The Zero Hour event destroyed the future -- technically, despite retcons, the Legion previous to that was all one thing, and the Legion after is referred to as the "reboot", "post-boot", or "Archie Legion". The post-boot was destroyed and "re-imagined". I don't know what the hell we'll be calling whatever survives the current mess, i.e the Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds mini, which features a retcon of the pre-V4 pre-boot Legion hosting the post-boot and the re-imagined Legions. *shakes fist dramatically at Geoff Johns*
I am willing -- nay, eager -- to
assimilateeducate you! It would mean a lot of reading, and the best way is actually to sit you down with many boxes worth of stuff which are here and not there, alas... X3(no subject)
Date: 2009-05-31 10:20 pm (UTC)I've... let's see. I'm reading the current Legion of 3 Worlds, I read a little bit of the most recent reboot, I read the Action Comics Legion storyline, I read the Teen Titans crossover, and various other smatterings. Oh, and I watched the cartoon and read the associated comics. (Brainy/Superman! It is so close to canon J Torres couldn't deny it!) And I have two Legion Torrents on my computer waiting for me to have free time. Mostly ones that seem like they'll have Jenni Ognats because I do love me some speedsters.
Point is! I like it but I do not have the time to get further into them.
