THIS HAS BEEN MY DAY

I have no problem with Northstar marrying his boyfriend; they're a cute couple, and comics need to stop trying to keep everyone in this relationship limbo thing.

What I want to know is why the hell are they getting married in New York?! They're both Canadian citizens! Same-sex marriage has been legal in Canada since 2005! Why not get married there, avoiding the red tape of having your wedding in another country -- always a pain in the ass. They can have a post-wedding party in New York if for some reason a bunch of the guests couldn't go to Canada -- have the X-Men moved back to NY, even? I thought they were still based off the West Coast?

Actually a pretty good film! If the trailers I saw when it was in theatres had had more of "Bruce Banner runs from the Army and seeks a cure" and less "BLARRR ABOMINATION BLARRR" I might have watched it sooner.

Seriously, it made me like Bruce Banner and Betty Ross, something the comics have never entirely succeeded with. And like them together, as friends and partners and a couple. They were so caring of each other, gentle but strong in their convictions and love. I liked it. The special effects and pre-Abomination fight scenes were pretty good.

I'm glad "Mr. Blue" didn't turn out to be Reed Richards, gotta say.

Need to track down the short that expands on that scene at the end with Ross and Stark, and the other one, "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor's Hammer". Coulson! :D

I'll probably rewatch the Cap movie tonight or tomorrow. Planning to go see The Avengers Thursday (please no spoilers!), so I gotta prep! Probably skim a synopsis of the second Iron man movie while I'm at it.

So I just finished reading The Janus Gate trilogy by L.A. Graf, and it has some of the most wildly inaccurate back cover blurbs I have ever seen on a Star Trek novel, and that's REALLY SAYING SOMETHING.

So I'm gonna talk about it! (Under the cuts, this post is huge.)

Book 1: Present Tense )

It was a helluva cliff-hanger ending, I actually went DUN DUN DUNNNN so loud I hurt my throat. Moving on --

Boot 2: Future Imperfect )

There's one weirdly, probably unintentionally flirty line from young!Sulu in this book that may cause some readers to activate their slashgoggles. Also, Spock's reaction to the kid offering to shake hands is great.

Book 3: Past Prologue )

So, despite all this bitching, it's just the blurbs I'm irritated with: the books are really good. Being L.A. Graf books, they are especially good if you like Kirk being awesome and Sulu, Uhura and Chekov being not only individually awesome, but also the greatest of friends.

These books are also great if you like seeing more of canonical minor or background characters among the crew, including ones that were maybe spotlighted in an episode. I think that all the people we saw were canonical, but Memory Alpha's search function is apparently fuxxored, so I can't confirm that at this time.

TL;DR I RECOMMEND THIS TRILOGY BUT IGNORE THE JACKET BLURBS.
