lyrics! )

Once there was a Ship of Stone
Clear domed, broad hulled and clean
Where the air shone blue, through whose holds birds flew
And whose decks were growing green

And no matter how odd these things may seem
As madly mazed as shards of dream
They are not a dream that you dream alone
All ships, all men, are of one kin
We shall not forget the Ship of Stone.

Just a few random things...

Damn, I love Jim Kirk.

♠ I wish we knew more about Cygnet XII. It was mentioned in the TOS episode "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" as being dominated by women, and when the Enterprise stopped there to get some general maintenance done on their computers, the technicians there decided the computers needed more personality, so they programmed one. A flirty, giggly one that calls Kirk "dear". What is their society like? I can't help but think that this was supposed to be some kind of prank based on how they think Earth men see women...

♠ Well the mirror tells a different story
Then the one that’s playing in my mind
Every time I swear I’m looking younger
The more lines that I find

I guess I learned to trade youth for wisdom
And lust in for romance
It’s all written in the stages and
Phases in life’s little dance

When I want to bitch about growing old,
I think about how many never had a chance…

It gives me something to believe in

♠ KIFFIE -- assuming it's still around in some form in TNG-era, what would you think Volkswagen would be up to?

♠ Now they don't call her Queen of Sparta
Thanks to that selfish boy
They don't call her Zeus's daughter
She's just "Helen of Troy"
She had no say in what would befall
Maybe Discord won the apple after all

Is this not adorable?

If I'm not over you by the time I get to Georgia
Then I guess I'll be Alabama bound
There was a time when I'd do anything for you
But this time, baby, I won't turn around, yeah

I'm in jail in a Texas town
In my sister's wedding gown
I drive a truck all night long
Listening to Judy Garland songs

Now I'm locked behind bars of steel
I was just looking for a happy meal
I parked my rig and I went inside
They've never seen such a pretty bride

Jesse Jane, are you insane?
Or are you just a normal guy
Who dresses like a butterfly

Lyrics:Klaus Meine

Walking through a winter night,
Counting the stars
And passing time
I dream about the summer days,
Love in the sun
And lonely bays

I see the stars, they're miles and miles away
Like our love,
On one of these lonely winter nights

So, I obsess easily. And when I got a hold of a live performance by four ladies who, as a group, are apparently Divine Strumpet, about a team of four female superheroes from the 70s, I figured I'd look it all up. :3 And transcribe the lyrics (which I cheated with by finding a partial transcription, which was necessary because I was mishearing two of the names; in my defense, who expects "Fauna" and "Hercula"?)

The Bruce Springsteen song that's been haunting me since I heard it.

"Devils & Dust"

I got my finger on the trigger
But I don't know who to trust
When I look into your eyes
There's just devils and dust
We're a long, long way from home )

"Bad Sun" by The Bravery

We are liars like the summertime
Like the spring, we are such fools
Like the fall, we are false prophets
And like winter, we are cruel

I don't know what's wrong with us
They just made us this way
There's a hole in you and me
That pulls us together

And I don't know where we belong
I think we grew under a bad sun
I know we're not like everyone
You and me, we grew under a bad sun

Every day you bring me pain
And we savor it like rain
We hold it on our tongues
Just like wine

Someday back when we were young
I guess something just went wrong
The two of us are hung
From the same twisted rope

And I don't know where we belong
I think we grew under a bad sun
I know we're not like everyone
You and me, we grew under a bad sun

And I don't know where we belong
I think we grew under a bad sun
I know we're not like everyone
You and me, we grew under a bad sun

You and me, we grew under a bad sun
You and me, we grew under a bad sun

Step 1: Put your iTunes player* on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

*I used a different program, since I can't be arsed to move all my recently-acquired music to iTunes at the moment.

I made an executive decision to skip instrumental pieces )

You know what's really annoying? Songs that are officially instrumental which clearly contain singing -- just singing that's mixed under the instruments and extraordinarily difficult to make out. "Tidal" by David Usher is one such song. Very frustrating.

(Don't look so surprised, the display for the jazz festival is still up at work, even though the rest of the street has switched over to rainbows for Pride Week.)

Are you tryin' to quit me, baby, but you don't know how? )

You're going to need to know what LaGrange Points are to get this song.

Knowledge of the tune to 'Home on the Range' is also quite useful ;3 )

Put your player on shuffle and post two lines from the first 25 songs to play, no matter how embarrassing. Then let your friends identify them - no Googling allowed!

I skipped over instrumentals, but stuff it, you guys can guess the foreign stuff -- trust me, it could have been worse. ;3

Got it from [livejournal.com profile] naiveprophet.

onto the music )

I think #25 is probably the hardest, because those lines? Are the most English in the song.

Some people would rather live the false life they were given so long ago than return to some "true" identity that leaves them lobotomized. Live and die as a warrior lord. Selena, in the end, was the product of Allen's desires to have his sister back. Lord Dilandau died that day. Perhaps it was a mercy. Perhaps it was even his will.

And, after that randomly purple bit of exposition, I give you some lyrics which just now are striking me as somehow Dilandau appropriate:

My bags are packed, I'm ready to go~

Well, tomorrow morning I'm leaving on a aeroplane. I am heading north (yes, NORTH!) to go take care of some family business and very likely attend the funeral of my grandmother. (But as of today, so far as I know, she is still alive. Hallucinating freely, but alive.) I should be back Friday.

If you're the praying type, pray my plane doesn't crash in the ocean, or pray I don't get in a fight with a moose, or, really, pray for Nan's pain to end.

If you're not the praying sort, but you're the 'drinking to things important to other people' sort, well, raise a glass to Sally Brown.

Kathy, I set you free
Ride with the spirits,
Fly like the wind
On your journey to find your peace
In my heart you'll always be
Kathy, I set you free

So, I've bene listening to a predominantly Aerosmith playlist today, adn just now one of the songs I particularly like struck me as appropriate for Warren Worthington III in the whole fall of the Angel storyline, coming back as Death. It's probably a hell of a lot more mellow than he was capable of being at the time, but it works well for, say, when he's going after Hodge for cutting off his wings and kidnapping/torturing/killing Candy Southern.

In fact, Candy would be repeatedly mentioned. FYI when Jean was gone, Candy adventured with Warren and a few others as a (non-powered, I believe) Marvel Girl. Wore the green minidress and the mask and everything. Right dress, wrong girl.

The song is Ain't That A Bitch )

I went looking for the lyrics to this song to give a link to [livejournal.com profile] lakidaa, because I use it as inspiration when writing Booster Gold. (I use three other song from the album for Guy/Bea. :3) To my great dismay, every site I looked at had obviously pasted the same transcription of the lyrics -- right down to some slightly wonky formatting -- and it was wrong. I know I wasn't looking at a "misheard lyrics" page or anything, and I know that it's not just that it's sung differently than it's written in the lyrics sheet for the CD, because I have the CD and the lyrics aren't provided.

So, here they are: the lyric to Screaming Kings from the album Another Spin Around the Sun, by Edwin.

Boy, you're in your make-up )

This is a song by Tea Party. The name eludes me right now. I shall edit it in. It might be "Sister Awake".

When the winter was over
She returned there to find him
And her memories filled her
With light

She remembered the beauty
She remembered desire
And her memories filled her
With light

I am the sun in the flame
Cold from the flame turns away
And in these winds came the change
She wakes, ahhhh

[sitar & drums solo]

Sister, walk through these fields of delight
I want you to know
Desperation's the tenderest trap
So gently you go
What will it take?
Sister, awake
Sister, awake
Sister!
Sister!

When this beautiful cult of desire
Has left you for dead
Isolation will cradle the lies
Of things left unsaid
What will it take?
Sister, awake
Sister, awake
Sister!
Sister!

And you'll look to the heavens above
And taste its deceit
These temptations have blinded desires
To sleep at their feet
What will it take?
Sister, awake
Sister, awake
Sister!
Sister!
Sister!

And you'll hear them call out your name
Invoking their Fates
Chances are you've travelled too far
In stirring their hate
So what will it take?
My sister, awake!
Sister, awake!
Sister, awake!
Awake!
Awake!

Found the fic scenes I've been looking for. They were on looseleaf, not in a notebook after all. D'oh.

So I'm staring at the whipped cream tag scene I wrote and wondering if I can work it into Once More, With Feeling... *ebils*

And now, gratuitous depressing lyrics that reminded me of Booster today )
