"guess the song by the lyrics" meme
Sep. 22nd, 2008 06:34 pmStep 1: Put your iTunes player* on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!
*I used a different program, since I can't be arsed to move all my recently-acquired music to iTunes at the moment.
1. Warning! (echoes 5x)
2. He's so hardcore
3. The last time that I saw her was the night she said goodbye
4. Hey, ya bum! Yeah, you! Move over!
5. She's got the magic touch!
6. Na na na na-na niya na nahhh!
7. He called me up on the phone today
8. I'm quite contented to take my chances
9. (ah!) (ah-ah-ah-ohh!) (mmm) They lived in peace
10. I've changed by staying the same
11. Limpin' as you do and I'm watchin' you
12. Fuck the MP-double-A, comin' straight outta th'underground
13. Chloe don't know better
14. Goldenrod and the 4-H stone
15. "Take good care of what you've got," my father said to me
16. Lahhh lovely to see you!
17. Since you're gone, there is an empty space
18. You're your own worst enemy / Your Own Worst Enemy -- Alice Cooper (guessed by
scribe_protra)
19. and to love: a god / Selling the Drama -- Live (guessed by
serenity_ca4)
20. (oooh) When marimba rhythms start to play / Sway -- Dean Martin (guessed by
hybridhelen)
21. Wanna show you something like a joy inside my heart
22. This is 1968, dearies, not 1948!
23. Rock me!
24. The California air
25. Have you ever been close to tragedy
26. It's easier not to be wise
27. Christmas is calling me
28. Yummy, yummy, yummy, I got love in my tummy / Yummy Yummy Yummy -- Ohio Express (guessed by
hybridhelen)
29. The sky is falling and the wheels of life
30. Mama please! Let me go to the show!
31. When you bury my heart
32. Douse me in passion!
It's a little embarrassing how many of these songs have the title in the first line. *sigh*
You know what's really annoying? Songs that are officially instrumental which clearly contain singing -- just singing that's mixed under the instruments and extraordinarily difficult to make out. "Tidal" by David Usher is one such song. Very frustrating.

Date: 2008-09-23 01:15 am (UTC)And to love a god, and to fear the flames, and to *something* a love that... yadda yadda.
Got it.. Selling the Drama.
(and I didn't look up the lyrics, but I did look up the Live's discography to get the song title... though I knew it as soon as I saw it.)
I do hope there's no David Usher on that list, cause I will be immensely embarrassed if I can't recognize one of his songs.. unless it's from the first album, in which case, I concede that I might not recognize the first line.

Date: 2008-09-23 02:41 am (UTC)Nope, there's no David Usher *shakes fist at Tidal, which would have been #25 if I could have figured out what he's singing* -- but there is more Live.

Date: 2008-09-23 03:37 am (UTC)It's quite a challenge.
And while there are one or two others I vaguely recognize on your list, I have no idea what the titles are or who sings them.. and I definitely can't pick out another live song.

...yeah, the fact that these are the only two I know without resorting to google says something about me. I don't know what, but I feel old, even though I wasn't even a twinkle in my Daddy's eye when either originally released. Ugh.

Many of these songs are older than me, or where popular when I was a kid, or are by artists who were famous before I was born/when I was a kid. ^^;
