That vid might kill me! Thanks! That's like, the best ST vid I've seen since "Closer." Wow.

Found my way here through...I dunno, an old comment on someone else's dueSouth story that you commented on. Glad I did, because that vid is a keeper. Thank you!

Well, it makes our boycat roll on the floor and yowl, so you aren't the only one? XD I actually like this vid better than "Closer", possibly just because I prefer the story it tells. Most of this vidder's stuff is pretty good though, I recommend checking her out.

Ah, the dance of "wait, how did I get here?" is one that livejournal makes particularly fun. X3 I have repeatedly found myself lost in a tangle of sites in languages I don't understand but that have fabulous picspams! Anyway, glad your wanderings brought you here to encounter this vid! :D

eta: AHHHH You wrote Hooky? I didn't know there was more of that posted! *does the happy dance*

"Closer" is an outstanding vid as a work of art. It has a dark message, certainly. But it's technically excellent, and it is a groundbreaking example of a "constructed reality" vid. The first I'd ever seen, and certainly an early one, though I don't know if it was actually the first.

I really shouldn't have compared the two, but the theme just struck me, fannishly, as being similar, and this kind of also gave me a similar fannish thrill, and I recognized the feeling as similar to the way I felt when I saw "Closer" for the first time--in a hotel room at a con, by the way, shown to a small group by the vidders.

Even though it doesn't come close to the mastery exhibited in "Closer," "Your Love Will Kill Me" does something for me that "Closer" does not do. Because "Closer" feels complete as is; it doesn't make me want to say anything further about it. But "Your Love Will Kill Me" inspires thinking about what Spock might mean here and what the ramifications of the K/S relationship might be, and I can see many different ways of answering that question. It almost makes me want to write, it's that inspiring, and I haven't written any K/S in 6 years.

But I LOVE it when vids inspire me, so for me, this vid delivers the fannish goods. :)

About "Hooky," thank you so much. Yes, there's more, and more still on the way. I didn't realize you read much dueSouth. I've friended you to give you access. :)

"Closer" wasn't the first vidfic I saw by about a decade, and I'm really not fond of the song, which together probably accounts for why it didn't impress me as much. However, I am totally in agreement with you about loving to be inspired by vids. I have a playlist of songs which I listen to when pondering certain fandoms, and over half of the associations are owed to vids I've seen.

I've seen a number of vids lately that have pon farr as a motif, and this one seemed like a refreshing take on it; not just working with the theme, but looking at it from a new angle. It also works well with this particular vidder's expressed opinion that Spock and Kirk weren't physically involved until after the series, with this as a possible Spock pov on why.

Also, the song blew me away.

My due South fannishness doesn't show on my journal nearly as much as other things -- currently primarily Star Trek. X3 But it's an old, long-loved fandom for me, and I don't have much new to say. Every now and then I post fic-recs, that's pretty much it. Thank you for friending me! I will stalk your journal for dS goodness now. ;3

Vidfic? Do you mean the same thing I'm calling a "constructed reality" vid?

I do. Vidfic is an older (and more importantly) shorter term. Although now and then in recent years, I've seen people use "vidfic" to denote a fanfic which is presented as a script of a vid.
