"Closer" is an outstanding vid as a work of art. It has a dark message, certainly. But it's technically excellent, and it is a groundbreaking example of a "constructed reality" vid. The first I'd ever seen, and certainly an early one, though I don't know if it was actually the first.
I really shouldn't have compared the two, but the theme just struck me, fannishly, as being similar, and this kind of also gave me a similar fannish thrill, and I recognized the feeling as similar to the way I felt when I saw "Closer" for the first time--in a hotel room at a con, by the way, shown to a small group by the vidders.
Even though it doesn't come close to the mastery exhibited in "Closer," "Your Love Will Kill Me" does something for me that "Closer" does not do. Because "Closer" feels complete as is; it doesn't make me want to say anything further about it. But "Your Love Will Kill Me" inspires thinking about what Spock might mean here and what the ramifications of the K/S relationship might be, and I can see many different ways of answering that question. It almost makes me want to write, it's that inspiring, and I haven't written any K/S in 6 years.
But I LOVE it when vids inspire me, so for me, this vid delivers the fannish goods. :)
About "Hooky," thank you so much. Yes, there's more, and more still on the way. I didn't realize you read much dueSouth. I've friended you to give you access. :)
