Silly alba! You should never have tagged... TMI LASS!!! *pose*
Write 20 random facts about yourself then tag the same amount of people as minutes it takes you to write the facts. If you're tagged it's your turn.
1. I will tell my life story to nearly anyone who asks.
2. I have auburn hair past me waist. Woot! Trying to grow it to my knees.
3. I have lived in 5 provinces.
4. I love feta cheese like nobody's business.
5. I have a stuffed, purple, rainbow haired My Little Pony plushie! :D
6. ...and a collection of stuffed penguins. And penguin ornaments. etc.
7. I may never breed. It's partly a medical thing. I wrote a poem about it.
8. I want to be a published writer. I have actually had a poem published twice (the same one), and worked on my high school and university papers (under many names and also in editing and computer layout), but it just ain't the same.
9. Virgin. No, really.
10. Twenty-three next month! :D
11. I don't smoke, do drugs, or drink. Okay, I'll sip champagne and grimace at it and then give it to Kat on New Year's eve.
12. My godfather became a Zen Buddhist before I was confirmed; I'm told this means it's his fault I'm going to hell. Yay!
13. I go through phases of being keen on something. Love it, leave it, love it again. But I also have long-standing obsessions.
14. I think guys that crossdress are attractive. Also lefties. I have no idea why.
15. I'm an only child.
16. I have written a will, which instructs my best friend to go through my diary and take out any bits worth keeping, then burn the rest. However, I stopped keeping a diary years ago.
17. I plan to go to Japan after I graduate university, on the JET program. But, I have stopped going to the JET hopefuls message board because someone launched a campaign to make me feel unwelcome. :(
18. I do honestly believe in the sort of supernatural, spiritual, and parapsychological things that might get me thrown in the nuthouse.
19. I'm way too opinionated for my own good.
20. I like to make stuff. :D Like doll clothes, jewelry, clothing designs, carved things, furniture, and such. I also like to take stuff apart.
7 minutes! Granted, all rather vague, but I was trying to be quick because I have such a short friends list to pick from, especially after who alba_aulbath and edward_hyde picked! If you want to know more about me, see #1.

Apologies to those already tagged. If you don't want to, you don't have to, of course. But it's fun 'cause there's a time limit!

Date: 2005-09-08 11:32 am (UTC)I think yours are more interesting than mine. For example, I haven't heard of half those movies, or seen any. (I haven't even seen Gangs of New York.)
And there's nothing wrong with being obsessed with Egon. Why, my friend Janine --
Perhaps that's a story for another time.
I'd be interested to know why King Lear is your favourite, though. It's not mine. But I'd be interested nonetheless.

Date: 2005-09-08 07:21 pm (UTC)As for Lear, the reason I posted that there is because NO ONE likes Lear. At least, no one young. I don't understand why. Is it because they can't relate to it was easily as the power lust of Mac, the passion of Othello, or the youthful indecisiveness of Hamlet?
I love Lear because it's the darkest of his plays and it has some of his utterly finest poetry. It's pure rage put to words. It's utterly vicious emotionally and then physically. I think Edgar is the true hero, and he goes through utter hell. It's also a play about redemption, and the reunion scenes between Lear and Cordelia and Edgar and Gloucester are just... done right, they are heartbreaking. There is nothing more heartbreaking that realising that you've wasted your life, that you've fucked up and as much as you want to nothing you can do can turn back the horrible chain of events that led to this point, which will very soon lead to more death.
Only through this does Lear gain his love and humanity, all too late. He finally grows a heart and then Cordelia is killed, and the scene where he is carrying her body brings me to tears every time. The scene with Edgar leading Gloucester to the "cliff" is the only funny scene in the whole play, and it's also so beautiful and sad.
Add to that, the violence and utter viciousness of the sisters is chilling, and Edmund is so gleefully wonderfully evil to behold.
Even though it's generally considered a masterpiece, Lear is always given the short hand of the stick. In that context, I think it's the most underrated of the great tragedies, and within it, I think the Edgar/Edmund subplot it seriously underrated as well. That's as much the play as Lear and his daughters to me. King Lear is the most underrated compared to Romeo, Othello, Mac, and Hamlet. And that's a real shame.
I hope that helped.

Date: 2005-09-08 08:30 pm (UTC)I dislike Lear because of all the reasons you like it. It's dark and depressing and heartbreaking and violent. There's no reprieve. It makes me unhappy. Which means it's a success, yes, and it's a powerful and obviously moving play, but the way it moves me makes me avoid it like the plague.

Date: 2005-09-08 08:59 pm (UTC)It should probably be said that I generally dislike the comedies. Except for Twelfth Night, which interestingly is almost a tragedy in its subplot.
I have to wonder now, what did you think of Titus? Or have you seen it yet?

Date: 2005-09-08 10:40 pm (UTC)Yes, I realise it's a tragedy. I actually prefer Hamlet to Lear, because it's so surreal. I find Macbeth genuinely funny in places. I just feel so badly for Lear and Cordelia. I don't know. I think I empathize too strongly with them.
I do like the comedies, though. They are what I grew up having at hand, so I'm sure that had an impact on my tastes in regards to the plays.
I just don't do especially well with tragedy in general, unless it strikes a certain cord.

Date: 2005-09-08 10:53 pm (UTC)If the surrealness of Hamlet appeals to you, I hope that you can track down a good production of Lear in its entireity (which is hard, if only because it's hard to find ANY good Shakespeare productions on film. There are only 2 perfect ones to my mind, Henry V and Titus. Both are must-sees!). As Lear goes crazy, he seems to take the entire world with him. By the second half, everything goes cuckoo-bananas and bizarre. Which I of course love. I'm not saying you will, but I'm of the firm belief that there's no Shakespeare play that can't be potentially done brilliantly. Well, except Timon of Athens. Bleech.
I really hope I didn't come off as condescending about the tragedy thing. If I was, I am sorry. If tragedy's not your bag that's cool, but I just find it so... fulfilling and satisfying to be moved that way.

Hrm... you did sound a bit condescending, but I forgive you.

...I wish Mark Frankel were still alive. In general, but also because I'd love to see him and Banderas work together. Alas.
