Silly alba! You should never have tagged... TMI LASS!!! *pose*

Write 20 random facts about yourself then tag the same amount of people as minutes it takes you to write the facts. If you're tagged it's your turn.

9. Virgin. No, really.
10. Twenty-three next month! :D

18. I do honestly believe in the sort of supernatural, spiritual, and parapsychological things that might get me thrown in the nuthouse.
19. I'm way too opinionated for my own good.
20. I like to make stuff. :D Like doll clothes, jewelry, clothing designs, carved things, furniture, and such. I also like to take stuff apart.

7 minutes! Granted, all rather vague, but I was trying to be quick because I have such a short friends list to pick from, especially after who alba_aulbath and edward_hyde picked! If you want to know more about me, see #1.

Hmm... I tag:

Apologies to those already tagged. If you don't want to, you don't have to, of course. But it's fun 'cause there's a time limit!

Hmm. It did help.

I dislike Lear because of all the reasons you like it. It's dark and depressing and heartbreaking and violent. There's no reprieve. It makes me unhappy. Which means it's a success, yes, and it's a powerful and obviously moving play, but the way it moves me makes me avoid it like the plague.

Well, the simplest response to "it makes me unhappy" is, well, it's a tragedy. I find Othello far more upsetting and hard to watch, honestly. As someone who hasn't seen it in awhile, is there a reprive there? What about Hamlet? As for Lear, there are several reprives- the reunions, and Lear's "we will sing like two cages birds" speech. He and Cordelia don't care they're to be imprisoned, since all that matters is that they're together finally and they love each other. I think that's beautiful.

It should probably be said that I generally dislike the comedies. Except for Twelfth Night, which interestingly is almost a tragedy in its subplot.

I have to wonder now, what did you think of Titus? Or have you seen it yet?

I haven't seen Titus or Othello. In fact, I haven't seen Lear in it's entirety.

Yes, I realise it's a tragedy. I actually prefer Hamlet to Lear, because it's so surreal. I find Macbeth genuinely funny in places. I just feel so badly for Lear and Cordelia. I don't know. I think I empathize too strongly with them.

I do like the comedies, though. They are what I grew up having at hand, so I'm sure that had an impact on my tastes in regards to the plays.

I just don't do especially well with tragedy in general, unless it strikes a certain cord.

Ok, I gotcha. I just didn't realize that such an empathy could be a bad thing. I find such feeling cathartic. Othello is just... well, it has a reputation for really stirring up an audience's passions, sometimes in a bad way. There are some great stories there. Now I'm very curious as to what you'd think of that play!

If the surrealness of Hamlet appeals to you, I hope that you can track down a good production of Lear in its entireity (which is hard, if only because it's hard to find ANY good Shakespeare productions on film. There are only 2 perfect ones to my mind, Henry V and Titus. Both are must-sees!). As Lear goes crazy, he seems to take the entire world with him. By the second half, everything goes cuckoo-bananas and bizarre. Which I of course love. I'm not saying you will, but I'm of the firm belief that there's no Shakespeare play that can't be potentially done brilliantly. Well, except Timon of Athens. Bleech.

I really hope I didn't come off as condescending about the tragedy thing. If I was, I am sorry. If tragedy's not your bag that's cool, but I just find it so... fulfilling and satisfying to be moved that way.

I understand how tragedy can be cathartic. Sometimes it is for me. But the issue being family in Lear, for the msot part. Family and madness ... these things strike too, too close to home.

Sometimes that kind of empathy sucks.

Hrm... you did sound a bit condescending, but I forgive you.

The innocent tone was lost over LJ. I've actually lost friendships over AIM and LJ due to that loss of tone. Sorry! It was meant not in a snobby way. Even though I am a snob. In good ways! Sorta. *makes big puss eyes ala icon*

...I'm not going to read you as having an innocent tone if your icon makes me envision Antonia Banderas' voice, you realise.

Nah, it's okay. I've gotten into fights because teasing was taken literally, etc.

I saw Four Rooms. No. Not innocent. Often funny, but not innocent.

Gah! Now I'm trying to picture Antonio as George of the Jungle! *scrubs mental eye*

Okay, maybe it's just because I had to get up around 5am, but that was funny.

...I wish Mark Frankel were still alive. In general, but also because I'd love to see him and Banderas work together. Alas.
