That musical/pairing meme
Apr. 5th, 2010 06:31 am[Blues Brothers]This meme is like a rash all over my f-list.[/Blues Brothers] Looked like fun, let's see what I get.
-Write down twenty of your favorite pairings/threesomes/etc.
-Put your media player on shuffle. The number of the song corresponds to the number of the pairing.
-Quote a part of the song that you think has any similarity with the couple.
I was worried I couldn't think of 20 couples, but then I discovered that it was hard to keep the list that short! I guess I don't usually have so many of my fandoms floating around at once.
1. Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
"Surrender", Trixter
In a blaze of glory
Can we rise above these flames?
In a world of anger
There's got to be a way
Sometimes we raise our guns of pain
But I'll be your defender
'Cause if love means war
Then baby, I surrender
We're just soldiers from the heart
And I ain't no pretender
So lay down your arms
And baby let's surrender
And though my aim is true
I sometimes miss the mark
Ooh, in matters of the heart
But I'd give my life tonight
To hold you in my arms again
This works. They argue, they have misunderstandings, they bring themselves to apologise and express things as best they can, and they will change time itself to save one another.
2. Princess Aurora/Prince Philip
"Sayonara wa Iwanai", Personz
("Never Say Goodbye". It's from the Yu Yu Hakusho Complete Vocal Collection)
Um, I can't get a decent translation (as opposed to transliteration) for this, but it's a sweet, kinda bouncy song about memories of their time together and how (I think) they might not be meant to stay together, but that won't stop them from being together in their heart? (Please someone correct me if I'm totally off-base, it's been a long time since I took Japanese.) I guess this works okay for after they met in the forest.
3. Kuwabara Kazuma/Yukina
"Only My Heart Talkin'", Alice Cooper (with Jon Bon Jovi)
Couldn't tell you how I wanted you
Enough to make you want to stay
I never said the words out loud
I guess I couldn't get'em straight
Well, that certainly works for how completely tongue-tied Kuwa is around Yukina. *amused*
4. Tony DiNozzo/L.J. Gibbs
"Jesus' Brother Bob", Arrogant Worms
XD Oh no... Well, I guess this could speak to Tony's issues and need for approval, but I won't inflict the lyrics on you!
5. William Laurence/John Granby
"Love 'Em or Leave 'Em", Scorpions
Put out or get out
Simple survival
No more denial
Love 'em or leave 'em
Roller coaster flies off the track
Hits you in the face, stabs you in the back, in the back
I think I could parlay this into something about Granby having to get over his pre-conceptions about Laurence (because of his jerk friend) and make the choice to serve with him whole-heartedly... but I think I'd be stretching.
6. James T. Kirk/Spock
"Om Du Var Min", Nanne Grönvall
Om du var min nu så skulle jag va' din nu
Jag skulle aldrig lämnat det vackra vi haft
Om du var min nu så skulle jag vara din nu
Jag skulle hålla om dig av hela min kraft
Vi gled isär, nu står jag här
om allt jag önskar slår in
Ska jag alltid va dig nära
Jag ger dig allt, ja tusenfallt
För nu är allting här så kallt
If I'm understanding this right, then it would work pretty well for when Kirk and Spock were apart in the years before the first movie -- apart and regretting it.
7. Date Seiji/Hashiba Touma
"Wanted Dead or Alive", Bon Jovi
Well, they are. Not really a good song for couples, although I think the boys wuld like it. Seiji makes funny faces at me from the back of my head when I hit that line "I got the night on my side".
8. Aries Mu/Capricorn Shura
"Tank!", The Seatbelts
I think it's time we blow this scene.
Get everybody and their stuff together.
Ok, three, two, one let's jam,
FOLLOWED BY MASSIVELY AWESOME JAZZ.
While I think both of them might like the music, and the frenetic energy works well for "SHIT SUDDENLY THERE IS WAR", it doens't really work terribly well for them as a couple.
I mean, unless they're chasing after the kids. X3
9. Aquarius Camus/Scorpio Milo
"Line Up", Aerosmith
If you're playin' to win
Then your only way in
Is Line Up
If we all wanna live
Then we all gotta give
Line Up
We gotta get up, get out
Before they get us down
'Cause livin' up against the wall
Has got us locked up
Come on and Line Up
You better get to it
Instead of just standin' around
Yeah, it's time to get down
If you got all the stuff
And you can't get enough
Then Line Up - Line Up
If you think that you're strong
Wanna fight? Well come on
And Line Up - Line Up
...Yeah, okay. *grin*
10. Val Armorr/Andrew Nolan (Post-boot)
"Theme from The Sentinel", Sentinel (OST)
This is instrumental. I think Val would like it way more than Andy would, though. It doesn't really suit them together.
11. Barry Allen/Iris West
"I'm In Love With My Car [Remix]", Queen
When I'm holding your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When I'm cruisin' in overdrive
Don't have to listen to no run-of-the-mill talk-jive
You know, I don't think Barry owns a car? But I am now picturing him having been turned into one (bright red with lightning bolt detailing on the sides, natch) and Iris driving around in him in a sexy manner. What? They're a comic book couple that's been around since the Golden Age, it could totally happen. Vroom-vroooooom! ♥
12. Rodney McKay/Sam Carter
"Killer Robots From Venus", Arrogant Worms
Glad I got to know 'em, and let me tell you something
They may be metallic but they're just like me and you
No, there's nothing wrong with Killer Robots from Venus
They gave me zuchinni from their garden yesterday (They're very fresh)
No, there's nothing wrong with Killer Robots from Venus
You may disagree but I think they're a-ok
Well, you can take this one of four ways. First, LOL SCI FI. Second, Sam has had a number of robot or Replicator doubles. I'm not saying Rodney would build another one... Third, more seriously, you can take stuff like the lyrics quoted above to heart re: looking past the exteriour and becoming friends, which Sam and Rodney did. Fourth, you can take stuff like this:
I was watching the news last night and I saw something funny
Killer Robots from somewhere decimated Montreal
I wondered, "Could it be my neighbours, the Killer Robots from Venus?
Could it be them after all?"
Oh, no. They're so nice.
...and imagine your very own co-rant or argument or sarcastic back-and-forth about being too trusting/paranoid, refusing to see consequences of science/alliance with aliens (something close to the quick for them both), and possibly a digression about Montreal and snobbery. With voices. (Because Sam and I both giggle when Rodney does voices. If you seen the SG-1 episode "Redemption" you know I'm right.)
Yeah. XD It's not a romantic song by any stretch of the imagination, but it sorta works.
13. Warren Worthington III/Candace Southern
"Falling Is Like This", Ani DiFranco
I'm sorry I can't help you
I cannot keep you safe
I'm sorry I can't help myself
;o; I was hoping for something sweeter than the awful end, but... yeah.
14. Ista dy Baocia/Illvin dy Arbanos
"Gaston (Reprise)", Beauty and the Beast Original Broadway Cast
I'm going to embed this so people can listen to it instead of me quoting the whole thing. It's only short, but marking who's singing what would be space-consuming:
Alright. Let's consider that Ista was a madwoman for nearly 20 years. "Crazy old Royina, eh?" And then there's Illvin's genius with twisty plots to consider, and the fact that both of them have a calling to serve the Bastard, the master of (among other things) demons, and Ista's mouth is essentially a holy gate to hell. So.... it's not like this song is entirely inappropriate. ;3
15. Kethry/Jadrek (+Tarma)
"Be-In", HAIR Original Broadway Cast Recording
...Let's just put this down to that time they disguised Jadrek as an astrologer, add in a little Shin'a'in yipping, and leave it at that.
16. Ted/Booster ;3
"Starsky and Hutch", Bill Bailey
How 'bout that alley?
No, there's no boxes down that one, no.
XD BWAHAHA!! It figures I would get a snippet of a comedy routine about a duo of crimefighers for these guys! I love it! XD
For the curious, this is what I'm listening to:
Comedian Bill Bailey - Starsky & Hutch Music - For more of the funniest videos, click here
And for the record, in one episode Hutch really did say "How 'bout that alley?" when Starsk was driving, and plenty of boxes were careened into. X3
17. Joey Wilson/Dick Grayson
"The Last Saskatchewan Pirate (Live)", Arrogant Worms
What is it with my player and the Worms today?
'Cause it's a heave ho! Heigh ho!
Comin' down the plains!
Stealin' wheat and barley
And all the other grains
And it's a ho hey! Hi hey!
Farmer's bar your doors!
When you see the Jolly Roger
On Regina's mighty shores!
X3 God knows the boys could be this silly together, but let's stay away from eyepatches.
"Arr, ya salty gopher!"
18. Kurt Wagner/Meggan
"Spy Vs. Spy", Brian Briggs
Another instrumental, but the zany music and sounds of mayhem would fit pretty well into an Excalibur soundtrack. Especially when they were trapped in Murder World! Not particularly Kurt/Meggan, though.
19. Seth/Horus the Elder
"Those Who Lose", Sue Merchant
I have climbed your mountains
And I did swim your seas
I have fought with demons
...
Hallowed be thy name, they said
Lightning don't come, they said
A song addressing the Christian god from someone who has lost/is losing faith/feels betrayed is a very strange result to try to apply to a love affair between Egyptian deities.
20. Bobbi Drake/Jeanne-Pauline Beaubier
"Trois Navires de Blé", Great Big Sea
Et les jolies filles envolaient le coeur, nous irons jouer
Sur le bord de l'eau nous irons jouer dans l'île
(Translation: And the pretty girls make the heart fly, we are going to play
At the water's edge we are going to play on the island)
Okay, I am tickled pink to have gotten a song in French about pretty girls who are light on their feet for this pairing. ♥ The good-natured haggling between the youngest princess and the wheat-seller is not so far off from the kind of teasing flirtation Bobbi and Paul engage in. ;3

Why do you suck, DC?

A lot of people have been theorizing on this point over the past few years. *sigh*
