From [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory: Give me two female characters in a fandom (or fandoms) I know and I'll attempt to write a conversation between them.

Not sure if I know a fandom? Check my profile (there are actual ladies listed amongst my interests, as well as fandoms!) and my tags. Don't see what you're looking for but still wanna try? Well, go ahead and ask. The worst I can do is say, "sorry, try again." ;3

Believe it or not, there used to be a time when I dealt almost exclusively with female characters. I need to try to reach a well-rounded middle ground, and I'm hoping you'll help me out by giving me a suggestion!

How about Michelle Carter and Rose Levin from Booster Gold?

"Okay," Rose said, gripping her coffee mug in a completely unconscious mirror of her attempt to get a grip on this situation. She eyed the tall blonde woman sitting across from her at the table. "So that makes you my however-many-times great granddaughter?"

"Yup." Michelle crunched through another carrot stick. "You can say 'descendant' if you'd rather," she offered. Rose waved this aside as irrelevant.

"But what if I don't get together with Danny? Will you just disappear?"

Michelle shifted uncomfortably. "I'm still trying to work that out. Rip and Booster are really more experienced with this time travel stuff than me. The short answer is 'no.' I think."

"You think?" Rose's voice went up an octave with the question. She didn't want this responsibility. She barely knew Danny! The idea that something she could do or not do would cause Michelle and all the generations between them to not exist made her feel like the walls were closing in --

Michelle reached out and laid her hand on one of Rose's wrists.

"Hey. Calm down, Rose. If you get all stressed out over this, you're going to hurt yourself."

"I could make you not be born! That's worth getting 'stressed out' over, Michelle! I like you! I don't want you to die because of--"

"I like you, too," Michelle interrupted with a smile. "And I don't think you should have to live your life by some predetermined set of guidelines just because Rip says so, okay? You live your life, and I -- or whoever comes after -- will be proud of you for it. All right?"

Rose took a deep breath, let it out as a gusty sigh. "All right," she agreed, sheepishly shaking out her hands to rid them of the tension from white-knuckling her mug.

"Good." Michelle leaned forward, lacing her fingers together over her plate. "So -- tell me about you, Rose Levin."

It's something I'm meaning to play with in fic...or meta at least. Rose might not exactly be thrilled with 'coming for an interview and getting an arranged marriage' but really, meeting Booster and Shel and getting to know them a little better would stir up some interesting emotions about her fate with Daniel.

Also, I haven't seen the issues yet, but I think we get cheated out of Michelle's introduction to Daniel at least, it happens offpanel.

I can see that. I think Michelle would be happy to reach out to Rose, because as much as she loves her brother (and Skeets), Rip and Danny are probably getting on her nerves and it's nice to have another woman around. That she can potentially help Michelle see her dad's side of the family in a better light is a bonus.

I'm pretty sure you're right. I betcha Booster took Danny aside about 3 seconds before those two met and gave him a very stern/scary, "You are about to meet my twin sister. She is your relative. DO NOT HIT ON HER." The "or I will break your many bones" was totally implied.

I can't be the only one making attempts at Webby and Gosalyn. Think you could swing it?

>83 *rubs hands together gleefully* Oh, I think so!

Question: is it better to put the convos in the comments or make a separate post, do you think?

Excellent!

I was just going to comment and then repost them if it seemed worth it.

Teyla Emmagen could maybe sit down for a chat with Mystique.

Teyla's grip on the hand-stunner was rock-steady as she kept it trained on the woman who was even now regaining consciousness on the ground before her. The blue woman, with unnaturally red hair, who had -- until Teyla surprised her with a hard blow to the back of the skull -- looked exactly like John Sheppard.

"Remain in your current form or be shot," Teyla ordered, voice steely. The liquid-swirl of the woman's skin and clothes stopped. She lifted her face just enough to see the weapon, to show Teyla that her eyes were a solid, unnatural yellow from point to point.

"So," the woman said quietly, "that explains the headache." Her voice was wholly unfamiliar, low and rich, her patrician tones clear even through the Stargate's translation.

"What have you done with the real Colonel Sheppard?"

"You know, I have to commend you," her prisoner said, cheek resting on the stone beneath her. "This was cleverly done. Take me to an unfamiliar planet, separate us from the rest of the team and knock me out. Very careful. You've obviously taken into account that I might not be without allies."

"Answer the question."

"Or what? You'll knock me out again? I know that thing's not lethal." She snorted.

"I will stun you and while you are unconscious, I will probe your mind," Teyla promised her.

They locked eyes.

"...Interesting. I thought your powers only worked on those with -- oh, I see. Sheppard has Wraith DNA, thanks to your Dr. Beckett's experiments. You probably feel him on some level, and you couldn't feel me. That's what made you suspicious."

"John is my friend, my family. I would have known. I am not the only one who noticed."

A ghost of a laugh. Then, mockingly: "But you don't know how long ago I replaced him, do you?"

"Three days, eight hours," Teyla said, keeping her voice calm with a will. "At the least. It was you who came back from the search mission on MR6-7PT. What have you done with him?"

There was a moment of silence. No doubt the spy was considering her options. Teyla had waited to strike until they were near this cave, have dragged her on. The only way out was past Teyla.

"I am a Federal agent, from Earth," the woman finally claimed, voice resigned. "I will tell Woolsey in exchange for --"

"You will tell me or no one will see you alive again."

Another pause.

"I think you might mean that."

Oooh, now that is interesting on many different levels. It makes me wonder why people could sense that John was not being himself so quickly (since Teyla seems to suggest that it wasn't just because she can "sense" him), but most of all, it makes me wonder *why* Mystique's organization took John. It's a stand-alone piece, but it really does feel like it could be part of a longer story. :)

I really like how in control Teyla is in this situation too. She is competent and she has a ruthless streak, and it's nice to see that explored a little.

:D Yaaaay I'm glad you liked it and found it interesting!

I know how Mystique captured and replaced Sheppard, but I don't know why. In fact, he might not be a prisoner at all; he might be on a super top-secret mission... But I don't know. Teyla will get it out of her, though.
