Nov. 22nd, 2008 10:58 pmSam raised her eyebrows in that way that meant she was being very serious, and said, "You're just lucky McKay was here to fix this."
"Hey," Malcolm Tunney blustered, "I'm the one who fixed this! I shut it down!"
"Yeah, with his program!" Sam pointed at the computer display. "I think I recognise the guy's work by now, Tunney. I have been working with him for over a decade."
There was a moment of silence as that sunk in. Sam took advantage of it to check on the dismantling progress.
"You mean, he has been working all this time?"
She smiled, but made sure to wipe it from her face before she turned back to face him.
"You didn't think we'd let one of the brightest minds in the human race go to waste, now, did you? But--" She raised her hand to forestall the question he was clearly about to ask. "I can't tell you what he was doing. It's classified. We can't even dumb it down enough to release his old stuff just yet." She smirked at his really very unflattering hungry-goldfish impression. "On the other hand, that means fewer people realise how valuable a hostage he'd make. Now, if you'll go with Corporal Denitts, here -- you're in the way."
Sam figured she'd done her good deed for the year. The best part was not having had to lie even once.
