In roughly 34 hours from the time I've begun typing this post, something will happen. There is a 1 in 5000 chance that this will result in the destruction of 80% of the galaxy or thereabouts, including, of course, our planet.
That's right, they're going to use the Large Hadron Collider, aka the LHC. It's a physicists dream come true: they're going to "smash protons moving at 99.999999% of the speed of light into each other and so recreate conditions a fraction of a second after the big bang."
So. In the unlikely (but more likely than the planet being struck by an extinction-event-level meteor, apparently) event that we are all destroyed, I just wanted to say that it's been fun. :3
Check out the countdown!
eta: *massive pout* They postponed it.

Date: 2008-08-06 09:30 pm (UTC)And I mean, seriously -- who the hell uses the phrase "heart on"? How did that get past the Town Council without someone realizing that, especially to anyone from further West, who think Maritimers talks fast, it was inevitable that it would sound like "Moncton: The City With a Hard-on".
Ah, well. I suppose it's better than the previous slogan. X3 "Moncton! The Armpit of the Maritimes". It's the City on the Bend, you see. X3

Date: 2008-08-07 12:10 am (UTC)It has a lot of historical significance, especially for shipping, but the armpit thing became popular when we had a few years of really crap weather.
