Still haven't found what I'm looking for
Feb. 10th, 2010 10:30 amSometime back, I was doing the link-jump dance through the internet and I went from a comparison of John Sheppard and James T. Kirk (enlightening; poor John) to a well-argued breakdown of Kirk's every "romance", with each one analyzed for circumstances, intent, and result.
I have been trying to refind that page again ever since. I can still see it in my mind's eye, the look of it, the colours and the spacing. I could kick myself for not saving a link to the damned thing, but I was still in denial about my sudden resurgence of Star Trek interest. In fact, I recall bemoaning to Taichara over the phone that I was, of all things, researching the original series.
Kick kick kick.
So periodically I try to make Google do tricks and I look for it. I haven't yet rediscovered its location, but yesterday I found something similar. I might say "it's not as good", but what I'd really mean is "it's not what I want".
However, it does have pie-charts. And my friends, I am a sucker for pie-charts.
Gentlebeings, I introduce to you: Kirk's Ladies by Arsenicsands.
I'm still rooting through the rest of the site, and checking out her links and what not. Her fic tends towards the bleak, although I must admit I like her T'Pring better than the one Diane Duane gave us is Spock's World. Somewhere in there you can find an attempt to order the episodes of TOS by stardate, which produces some surprising and occasionally hilarious results. Somewhere in there is a comparison of the relationship between Decker and Ilia with that of Kirk and Spock in the Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
I'll have to try and exert my will over Google again later; for now I am content to be distracted.

Mudd's Women
Feb. 10th, 2010 07:52 pmHarry, maybe don't plot to take over the ship in front of the security guards, eh? *facepalm*
It's been a while since I've seen this one. I'd forgotten how, for the first half of the episode, while all the rest of the men on the ship are going dreamy over the women, Kirk's reaction is "Stop touching me! Stop that! Get away!" and when he finds one in his room, he's pissed and tries to keep barriers between them, until her magic voodoo finally takes hold on him and he starts acting shy and drugged -- and tries to kick her out again anyway. And physically resists kissing her, although he stands there like a confused ox.
Also, it's hysterical how the lighting unpinks and the soft focus vanishes when Evie decides she can't do this. X3 That's some SUBTLE camera-work there!
Spock is way too amused-looking when he's eavesdropping on McCoy trying to figure out if the women are really as beautiful as the men think they are. Possibly because he's trying to be logical.

Uniforms on the USS Galaxy
Feb. 10th, 2010 10:36 pmThe TNG first season uniforms -- seen here -- are what the Starfleet officers in my "Andorians" stories wear.
Skyleaper to-Ennien doesn't have a humanoid physiology -- he's a bipedal feline (McCoy described his species as "overgrown housecats"), with a tail and digitigrade hindlegs; he can, if he wants, run on all fours. Left to his own devices, Skyleaper goes about "nude", or with a simple apron if he needs pockets for something. On duty, that's unfortunately not permitted. His uniform is a variation on the Medical/Sciences blue male Skant (trouserless version). His customized version has a larger opening for the neck, coming down in a vee in front and a deeper one behind; it also has an opening for his tail in the back. He goes barefoot on-ship, but on away missions sometimes wears extremely customized "booties" over his paws.
LaiHon and Glenn both wear the standard duty uniforms ("unitard") in Command red, and Jhæss does the same in security gold. Shallan usually also wears the unitard, but occasionally decides to wear the Skant instead. (In the story "Combat Medic", though it's not said, this is what she's wearing. She also had longer hair then.)
