Now, I don't, actually, have an American accent. (In fact, the longer I stay in Halifax, the more like a Maritimer I sound. I think it's the whole living-with-a-Newfie, randomly-running-into-Cape-Bretoners thing. It's changing my accent!) But I spent a few, young, formative years (age 4 to halfway through grade 1) in Calgary, which is the inland midwest, and north of the American border. So, this is fairly accurate, I guess.
Although the idea that I sound like someone from Chicago does bizarre things to my due South-fic readin', Biker Mice From Mars-lovin' mind.
And of course I say "pop", I'm Canadian, that's what most of us say. X3
