What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

Now, I don't, actually, have an American accent. (In fact, the longer I stay in Halifax, the more like a Maritimer I sound. I think it's the whole living-with-a-Newfie, randomly-running-into-Cape-Bretoners thing. It's changing my accent!) But I spent a few, young, formative years (age 4 to halfway through grade 1) in Calgary, which is the inland midwest, and north of the American border. So, this is fairly accurate, I guess.

Although the idea that I sound like someone from Chicago does bizarre things to my due South-fic readin', Biker Mice From Mars-lovin' mind.

And of course I say "pop", I'm Canadian, that's what most of us say. X3

Re the pop thing.

My family uses both pop and soda but mostly pop. My cousin from New York keep going on and on and ON about how if we used pop in NY we would get punched in the head.

Uh huh. [rolls eyes in memory]

To me, soda means either club soda, white powder you bake with, or someone either from the states or really wishing they were. It's a silly little thing. :3

As a Texas person, the insinuation that I have a Midland accent is just... B|.

We say the soda's name. :V 'I wanna coke/sprite/etc' over anything else. We do tend to say 'Coke' as a generic, though.

I only really use pop in contexts when there's more than one kind on offer. When all we have is gingerale, I say "you want a gingerale?" or "you want a drink? we have gingerale and water. I don't recommend the milk, I think it might be a spy." But if I'm at a restaurant, say, and the menu just says they have pop or "soft drinks" I ask, "what kind of pop do you have?"

...Usually I just ask if they haev ice tea, or "Do you have gingerale?" (I like gingerale. I tried to order some with my pizza, but they're out, so we're getting Sprite. I'm also super-picky. I won't drink Schwepps, just Canada Dry. Not diet. Blech. I'll settle for Big 8, but it's better with cherrie sin. B3)

Same thing. Here, places almost always have ice tea, and I normally get that.

Sprite is good. :3

Schwepps sucks. Canada Dry for the win. B|

Is there a difference between "ice(d) tea" and "sweet tea" (which I've only seen from Americans)? Is it a regional thing?

I like Lipton, with the lemon. I have never met a bottled iced green tea that I like. *Western cowboy showdown music* Green tea should only be sweet if it's in chocolate or ice cream! Not green tea with honey. *elaborate BLECH face* I like green tea plain or, for preference and here's where I am an utter philistine, with milk.

Canada Dry: It's the champagne of Ginger Ales!(tm) You are an honorary Canadian now. *stamps your hand*

Sweet tea must be a regional thing; I've never heard of it before. Iced Tea is all up in Texas' house. Possibly Louisiana's, too.

I like Arizona green tea, but I realize it's pretty much not 'real' green tea. It's tasty :3.

Yaaaay :D *presses hands together so she can have TWO stamps :D*

I like Arizona's regular iced tea. :3 It's a little sweet for me, but I like it with chips.

*gasp* Now you are twice as (honourary) Canadian!

It's too twangy for me. The lemon's a bit strong. House tea is the best. :3

I like my iced tea to be strongly lemony, I must admit. It wasn't the case before I got addicted to Lipton's. There's a restaurant (with awesome fries) that serves lemon iced tea + wedge of lemon garnish, and I just lemonize the sucker! XD

I've gotten used to no lemon at all, so yeah. X3

I like putting lemon in my sprite, though. :9
