Speaking of memes, I added to the movie quote meme I did, so that now there's two quotes from each unguessed movie. Feel free to give that another go!

X-Men

From: [identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com
I'm using this parameters: if a character's primary team association is with the X-Men, as opposed to New Mutants, Alpha Flight, etc., they're considered here. Chamber is not an X-Man, and neither are Jamie Madrox or Northstar. Cannonball walks the line, I think, but I'm not including him. Nightcrawler counts, despite all the time he spent with Excalibur, because he started with the X-Men and keeps going back to them, and so does Beast, even though he was an Avenger. My answer, my rules. ;3

1. The first character I fell in love with: Technically Iceman, because the first superhero comic I ever read was X-Factor #1 and I really liked him in that... but then I kinda forgot about that, and got back into it because of the cartoon, which is where began my helpless hero worship of Storm. She's so friggin' awesome.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Cyclops. I actually kinda hated him at first, but he really grew on me. Also, Banshee. Oh, Sean. <3 He became much more interesting as time went on.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Rogue. I used to really like her, actually, but my love faded a long while ago. :/

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: I can't actually think of a character that's universally loathed. Rachel Summers, maybe. I rather like Rachel, from her first stint with the X-Men and her time in Excalibur. She only seems popular with a small segment of the fandom, mostly guys who draw porny pin-ups. And I liked Joseph before they decided what they were gonna do with him.

5. The character I would sleep with anytime: (I am using sleep literally as opposed to sexually) HANK! He'd be all cuddly! 8D

6. The character I'd want to be like: That's actually a tough one. I'm tempted to say Storm, because she's a strong person, but she also has a dark side I wouldn't want. So much crap happens to these characters that I wouldn't ever want to have to deal with! XD Maybe Hank would be better, actually: sure he's had his moments of self-doubt or jealousy, but he's a genuinely good person, and very principled, and very loving. I'd like to be like that. Not to mention his intelligence.

7. The character I'd slap: Right now? Rogue.

8. Favorite character: Iceman or Beast, it's a toss-up.

9. Five favorite characters: Aside from Iceman and Beast: Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Longshot, Rogue for a specific period of time.

10. Five least favorite characters: Wolverine at most any point past the end of the Silver Age, Professor Xavier, Maggot, Bishop, Gambit after they made him all skeezy.

11. Character I am most like: *snort*

12. DEEP DARK SECRET REGARDING THIS FANDOM: Despite the fact that the first fanfic I ever read was X-Men, and that I write fic myself, I don't read most of it. There's too many fans out there who really love the characterizations that most drive me nuts, and there's way too much sex. Example: yes, Cyclops and Storm were such good friends they were on hugging terms, yes that was so while Jean was dead, NO they did not have sex, what are you CRAZY?!?!?! *cough cough*

13. A pairing (or more!) I love: Storm/Yuki. :D But I will never ever read fic for it. Rogue/Magneto. Beast/Iceman when the mood takes me, but mostly I love them as friends.

14. A pairing (or more!) I despise: Cyclops/White Queen. Look, he was involved with the Black Queen and the Goblin Queen. What, is he collecting them now? Not on, Marvel. Not on.

15. Five favorite things about the fandom: I can, with effort, find people who love the same time periods and characters and stories that I love. Some of them even produce fanworks for it. Also, it was one of the fandoms I shared with my best friend for years, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

16. Five least favorite things about the fandom: I will always be outnumbered by the people who like what I don't. ^^; This would be less of a problem if Marvel weren't producing so much I don't like, these days. Also, the Marvel fen have an unusually high ratio of obnoxiously batshit people to those I can deal with. I'm lucky to have found a few places to poke where I've found nice folk.

Good answers! And I agree with you on almost everything. I hate Rogue with a mad, burning passion. And I hate 98% of the pairings out there. So I don't read most fic either. Well, a large majority of it is pretty bad.

What, is he collecting them now? LOL I never thought of it that way. I don't really care for that couple either way, I'm not strongly opposed, but I'm not rooting them on either. I really don't like that he had an affair with Emma while married to Jean, that's pretty disgusting, and I am by no means a Jean fan.

Funny thing--I ended up liking Cyclops too. At first I thought he was dull and boring. Then I had to rp him for awhile. And then I realized that in some ways... I'm kinda like him. *snort*

I just don't buy Cyclops seriously getting involved with someone who is not in some way Jean. And also, Jean was pretty cool for a while there. I'm really liking her in X-Men: First Class, actually. She's less of a snot that she was when they were students the first time. And Cyke -- he just kinda grew on me as I found out more about him. Really, the back issue bins have been very good to me.

Emma/Sean didn't work for me, but I'd still buy it before Emma/Scott.

There are, of course, a lot of characters associated with the X-Men whom I really like.

Haha, that's a good point. I don't know. Jean has always seemed like the worst type of Mary Sue to me. Everyone wants her, she's super powerful, super smart. You know.

Emma doesn't seem like the type to settle down with any one man in particular, in my opinion. She's too full of herself to be in a stable relationship.

Haha, most of the characters I love are associated with the X-Men, and not really X-Men themselves. I don't know why it worked out that way.

Jean and Bobby are exactly the same level of intelligence, according to those weird ratings that go on the cards and stuff. The thing is, Jean wasn't always like that. They should have let the Phoenix thing alone after it was resolved in X-Factor, except where Rachel got it the first time. As for her desirability -- have you noticed that happens with nearly every redheaded woman in Marvel? Heather Hudson gets the same kind of attention (Wolverine, even!) and she's nothing special, really. Mary-Jane, Natassia, Mystique -- Marvel is the home of Hot Red-Haired Vixens. As a redhead, I object! ^^;

Emma was a lot more regal in New Mutants. Not to mention blonder.

OBVIOUSLY--

1. The first character I fell in love with: RODNEY.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Rodney. :3

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Parrish. Sorry, guys, he's in one episode and he's never seen again, no matter how many times we see Lorne's team. Therefore, he's not on Lorne's team. I have nothing against him, but he's not nearly as important as he's made out to be in fandom. Ditto for Simpson: why is there no love for Coleman? She's twice as bitchy, adn we see her a hell of a lot more often.

Okay, actually, you know what? LARRIN. I really really hate her. I don't get why so many people seem to think she's basically a female John, because I'm not seeing the similarities here. She's like Radim and Vala's lovechild. DO NOT WANT.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: SGA surprised me by having an ensemble cast where I like pretty much everyone. Well, actually, I don't like Kavanaugh, but you aren't supposed to. Even Caldwell grew on me, though I don't think Ellis ever will -- but again, he's not supposed to. I guess liking Elizabeth but not in a shippy way is kinda rare?

Oh, and I love Bill Lee every time he shows up. I have no idea why I love him so much. I just do.

5. The character I would sleep with anytime: Ahaha. You funny. None of them, thanks.

6. The character I'd want to be like: Teyla.

7. The character I'd slap: Kavanaugh or Larrin. >D Or Ellis, but Sam verbally bitchslapped him pretty good.

8. Favorite character: Rodney McKay.

9. Five favorite characters: I don't know if I can limit it. Okay, aside from Rodney: THE TEAM (as a character! :D), Lorne, Zelenka, Carson, Cadman, Coleman, wait that's too many.. .See??? I even like Michael and Todd and Fran kinda grew on me and I love Ronon but still hope to see Ford again someday and--

10. Five least favorite characters: Um. Okay, see -- I didn't like Kolya, but I really wasn't supposed to. He did an awesome job of being a villain who it's hard to sympathise with even if you think you get why he acts like he does... So, trying to rule out characters like that: Lucius, Harmony, Chaya, Larrin, and sometimes Norina.

11. Character I am most like: ...Zelenka.

12. DEEP DARK SECRET REGARDING THIS FANDOM: I swore I would never watch the show because of the online fandom, and I got sucked in anyway.

13. A pairing (or more!) I love: McKay/Sheppard. McKay/Carter, too, actually, but never at the same time.

14. A pairing (or more!) I despise: Sheppard/Weir. Sorry, guys, I just don't see it that way, and besides I'd never in my life want to picture two people that skinny getting together.

15. Five favorite things about the fandom: It's really huge, and it's mostly very good about pointing you in the direction of what you want to read. There's a lot of creative people in it, doing awesome things with the awesomesauce the source material gives us.

16. Five least favorite things about the fandom: It's really huge, so there's still a lot of crap to wade through. The number of people who are hailed as genius ficwriters who have never seen the show irks me. There's also just way too much focus on sex, and one of the fic tropes -- aliens made them do it -- squicks my non-con squick but good. :(

1. The first character I fell in love with: Angel Dumott Schunard :D

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Benny. Roger and Joann also grew on me a lot over time, but Benny's the topper here. I didn't expect to like him.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Maureen, I guess. I really didn't much like her until I saw the movie, although her songs are addictive.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Benny. I really like him and I have no idea why. I want to know what he was like before he got married. "What happened to Benny? What happened to his heart, and the ideals he once pursued?"

5. The character I would sleep with anytime: XD Probably not any of them, but Mark would be the most tempting.

6. The character I'd want to be like: Angel or Collins, I think. They deal with hardship so positively, love, and seize the day.

7. The character I'd slap: Depends on the point in the story. Just when I want to slap Roger most is when it would do the least good, really. There are places where I just want to shake some of them.

8. Favorite character: That's a really tough one. I don't think I can choose!

9. Five favorite characters: Mark, Roger, Collins, Angel, Benny, Joann -- wait, I went over. *sigh* See? I even kinda like April, after the movie where we actually see her a bit.

10. Five least favorite characters: Mimi's dealer, Mrs. Cohen, Alexi Darling, Maureen some of the time, aaaaaand yeah that's it.

11. Character I am most like: Mark, very probably.

12. DEEP DARK SECRET REGARDING THIS FANDOM: I have never seen the stage play. ^^; I got into it via the deluxe CD set done off the original broadway cast.

13. A pairing (or more!) I love: Collins/Angel. I've noticed the fandom trends towards Mark/Roger (or Mimi/Roger/Mark) but I really just like them as friends even though I can kinda see it. They are awesome friends, though.

14. A pairing (or more!) I despise: Nerf. Any significant reshuffling kinda bugs me.

15. Five favorite things about the fandom: Mostly seems to take the hopeful message of the musical to heart. Maybe I'm just not looking, but I'm glad I've never run across angsty drug!fic.

16. Five least favorite things about the fandom: Sometimes a leeeetle rabid.

I had one icon of every one of the main characters. Benny and Mark are the only ones I still have available. :3

4. Oh I agree! I would have loved to see how Benny was before he got married!

12. Wow! That is a secret. :o I thought you had. :3 I dunno why I thought that. I guess I tend to think I am the only fan who hasn't. ( I know there are probably MANY but. . .still. I just assume every Rent fan has. XD;; )

1. The first character I fell in love with: Hyouga.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: ALL OF THEM

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: Aioria, I guess.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates: Ichi :D;; and Jabu and pretty much all the other second string Bronzes and Silvers too.

5. The character I would sleep with anytime: (again, sleep taken literally) Geki would probably be the easiest to cuddle with, provided he didn't hog the blankets.

6. The character I'd want to be like: Mu, I guess. They're all so fucked up, each in his own special way. *facepalm*

7. The character I'd slap: Seiya, Shiryu and/or Shaina. Provided someone would protect me from the inevitable result. ^^;

8. Favorite character: I don't think I can choose. I like so many of them. It's probably Milo.

9. Five favorite characters: *flail* "All of the Gold Saints except for Aioria most of the time" doesn't fit! Seriously, I like too many to limit it to just five. I guess the ones who really stand out are Milo, Hyouga, Aphrodite, Deathmask, Shura, Shion, Dohko, Ikki, Black Swan, Baian, Io, Hades, Lune, Valentine, Myu, Capella, Babel, Dante, Shun Rei, Geki, Jabu, Bahn, Sigfreid, Tor...

10. Five least favorite characters: Shaina, Marin, Saori, Raimi, Kesa.

11. Character I am most like: ^^; Probably Miho?

12. DEEP DARK SECRET REGARDING THIS FANDOM: I don't think I have one. ._.

13. A pairing (or more!) I love: Milo/Camus!

14. A pairing (or more!) I despise: *shrug* There aren't that many pairings in the canon, and there's so many in the fandom that I'd just be guessing.

15. Five favorite things about the fandom: It's old, it's stable, it's international, it's still excitable, and it pops up in the strangest places.

16. Five least favorite things about the fandom: It can be hard to find people/stuff, different nationalities and the translations they got can drastically alter how a fan sees things, there's just not enough love for Silvers or second-string Bronzes, it took way too long to be translated into English, and awesome fansites sometimes up and disappear. Wherefore art thou, Heroes Factory? *sniff*

Original series? All series? Each series separately? XD Is just TNG acceptable? It's the first one I remember consciously watching, as opposed to the "Star Trek -- it is IS" mentality of my youth when it comes to the original. (Eliyes: Raised By Trekkies. 1. The first character I fell in love with: There is a slim chance that it was Geordi LaForge, but in all probability it was most likely Wesley Crusher.
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Worf. His characterization was really enriched as time passed.
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't: I was never terribly fond of Deanna Troi. As in, I still have an action figure of her I have defaced with white-out. She eventually grew on me, but eh. And I never liked Keiko O'Brian, though I learned to tolerate her.
4. The character I love that everyone else hates: There was a period of time where admitting to liking Wesley Crusher was a surefire way to become a pariah among Trekkies -- even Trekkies who had also liked him.
5. The character I would sleep with anytime: There really isn't one.
6. The character I'd want to be like: Guinan.
7. The character I'd slap: Ro Laren.
8. Favorite character: Dr. Selar <3 It's probably actually Picard. Hard to say. It might be K'Ehleyr, I really loved her a lot.
9. FiveSeven favorite characters: Wesley, Geordi, Data, Barclay, Picard, Worf, Beverly Crusher. ;3 I could make the list longer, but *shrug* :D
10. Five least favorite characters: From the recurring cast as opposed to one-episode characters: Tasha Yar, Riker until 3rd or 4th season, Troi until like 6th season, Pulaski (she just never grew on me), and Vash. Fuck I hate Vash.*
11. Character I am most like: ...Barclay. XD
12. DEEP DARK SECRET REGARDING THIS FANDOM: Nightshade used to be my favourite TNG novel. It was written by Laurel K. Hamilton. I look at the book now, through a lens of knowing about her current utter BDSM-and-sex-in-general obsessed batshit state, and I see some seeds of it in that book, and I feel kind of ashamed for liking it so much. -_- I WAS A KID! It didn't occur to me that having Picard chained to a wall and getting tortured by a bizarrely friendly alien ruler for most of a book was - was - kinky! D:
13. A pairing (or more!) I love: WORF/K'EHLEYR. Jean-Luc/Beverly.
14. A pairing (or more!) I despise: Anyone with Wesley when he was really young. WHY DO FANS TRY TO HURT ME? D|
15. Five** favorite things about the fandom: Pretty much my first major fandom. <3 So many people around the world will know what I'm talking about if I reference Picard, it's great. :D
16. Five** least favorite things about the fandom: I dunno! I haven't been active in it in so long, I have no idea what's up.

Recently I discovered some of my books had gotten wet and molded and had to be thrown out. ;~; Imzadi, Gulliver's Fugitive, and Perchance To Dream were among the lost. ;o;

*HER NAME SOUNDS LIKE 'COW' IN FRENCH. I really think this should have come up! Also, no wonder I don't like Vala Mal Doran on SG-1. She's like Vash x 7.

**I only just noticed there was supposed to be 5 here, I haven't been doing that anyway. XD

I'm not too fond of Troi either, except for late TNG, the movies, and Voyager, (or alternatively, whenever she's not wearing the "cosmic cheerleader" outfit). She just doesn't get to do much until late in the series. I like her when she's dealing with Barclay, though. XD Barclay is awesome. Vash is...well, Vash.
From: [identity profile] eliyes.livejournal.com
It's as much that her power doesn't make sense as anything else. "I can read your mind because you're on the view screen! Even though you're on a planet that's not the one I'm orbiting!" She did get tolerable, and I share her love of chocolate. I think her dealing with Barclay, as well as seeing more of her amusing friendship with Crusher, helped.

Also, I love her mother. A lot.
