No, it's usually in reference to someone having a fancy car they can't afford (brand new Mustang GT to go to college with? seriously?) or in jest about us buying something expensive that we may or may not really need. :3
I know a guy whose parents bought him a beemer for high school grad. He sold it by prom. (I mean, he bought another car with the money -- seriously, what were they thinking? He was over 7 feet tall, he did not fit in the car, and it would totally not have done well at college.)
