SGA 3x06 - The Real World
Nov. 10th, 2007 05:54 pmIt was nice to have an episode that focussed on Elizabeth, especially one that followed up so well on the previous one, in a way. And it was nice to see Jack, although it sucks for her that the image of her friend was latched onto as a way to contain her.
I imagine this episode is a popular one with John/Elizabeth 'shippers. I think John showing up in her false-reality at was partially her mind trying to get through to her, using John because a) she likes John, and b) she would trust him to rescue her. Which he certainly did. I think his risking contamination reflects back to what he said to Teyla two episodes earlier: "I would do anything for any one of you."
I think if it were the writers' intent to have us think that events in this episode were due to a romantic interest, that would have been more obvious. Unless they're being subtle, which they could very well be. But regardless of romance or not, it's been obvious for a while that John and Elizabeth care about one another, and I think I rather like that it's not an overt lovey-dovey thing. Frankly, they don't seem attracted to one another, they don't have that kind of chemistry, but it's like Teyla said: they're like family.
I guess the best thing about this episode, for me, was that it helped reinforce that. I mean, the entire team was there in the infirmary. The main cast care about each other, and that's really nice to see -- these days, it seems kind of rare.
