[livejournal.com profile] apathocles posted an interesting (*dodges bricks*) meme "where someone comments, and the person whose journal it is lists seven of the commenter's interests, and the commenter has to explain them." I poked her, and here's the 7 of mine she wanted explained:

a dog's breakfast

:D It's a movie! Written, directed by and starring David Hewlett, and also featuring the acting talents of his sister Kate and, well, everyone else in it is played by an actor from Stargate. And actually, Kate's been in two episodes now. It's a dark comedy murder mystery. I haven't seen it yet, because I asked for it for my birthday and I'm waiting to see if I get it before I buy it. It looks like a lot of fun, and there's a chance that a fictional sci-fi show that's part of the plot is going to actually be made into a real show -- with the "behind the scenes" being part of the script as much as the actual space opera.

It's interesting because Hewlett essentially made this as an indie film with his friends while they were all on break from filming Stargate. They even got to borrow some of the sets and the HDTV cameras. Then the fans started advertising it for him, making their own posters and T-shirts and everything (even making a fanpage for the fictional TV show). His advertising budget ended up being, like, $8. This "squirrel advertising initiative" (fans = squirrels, since training squirrels to put up posters didn't work) works so well that the film got picked up by MGM.

If you wanna check it out, the official site is here. Although, if you have dial-up, I should warn you that clicking that will automatically start the embedded trailer -- but at least it starts with a naked man in the bath trying to cover himself with a rubber ducky?

cliff fittir

Ah, Cliff. <3 Cliff is a character from the video game Star Ocean 3. He's big and blond and pretty and awesome and wears black leather and the first time you meet him in the game he's breaking you out of a dungeon in order to kidnap you. He's very friendly. I love him so. He's also the tallest member of your party and fights by punching and is from a species native to a heavy gravity world so he's very, very strong. :D :D :D

But not as strong as his second mate. Who's a girl. They've been friends since they were kids and she can kick his ass and he's totally unashamed of this fact. ;3

Here's a screencap of him:

foppery

Who doesn't like foppery? :D

I added this in a wave of Scarlet Pimpernel-related adding-of-stuff-to-my-interests. I have a tendency to like foppish characters, especially if they're secretly heroes, like the Pimpernel and Danilo Thann from the Forgotten Realms fantasy setting and Bruce Wayne back in the day.

Plus, foppery is awesome. :3

moist

From the pair of :D you put after this, ap, I think you might be disappointed to learn that Moist is a band. However, they are a really awesome band. They've been on hiatus for a few years now, although they still play together -- the lead singer/songwriter, David Usher, probably has as many solo albums out as the band has albums, and while oftentimes the band playing on these are the same guys as make up Moist, the sound is different.

Just to show off, I'm listing the albums I have -- by Moist: Silver, Creature, Mercedes Five and Dime, Machine Punch Through; by David Usher: Little Songs, Morning Orbit, Hallucinations, If God Had Curves. I haven't gotten my hands on Strange Birds yet. I'm always willing to share music, if anyone wants to give these guys a listen~

snk

SNK was a video game company. They merged with Playmore a while back, so now they're SNK-Playmore. My main interest in them is their fighting games (and thank God for the current trend of rereleasing older games on new game platforms, because there was just to way I was going to get my hands on a NeoGeo). SNK produced, among others, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Samurai Spirits/Shodown, and King of Fighters. Their characters are often really enjoyable, and their plots, while frequently made of pure, unadulterated crack usually make far far more sense than those in, say, Capcom's Street Fighter games. For example, King of Fighters -- which is basically a huge tournament/saving the world crossroads of several of their games, including the aforementioned AoF and FFury, plus updated Ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldiers -- has numerous female characters. AND I LIKE ALL OF THEM. Or, well, at least I don't hate any of the ones created before 2003. They're also easier to play. (Street Fighter's engine was designed by Satan!)

square chickens

Ahahahahah! ^^; Can I even explain this? Uh, this is a reference to a comment made by Geoff Tate of Queensrÿche during an interview done in... Well, around when they released Empire, which was 1990. He was espousing one of his conspiracy theories, this time about chickens being genetically engineered so that they had no wings, just breast all 'round. I.e., square. And maybe grown in a box, as well. The interviewer seemed to think he was kidding, possibly mistaken the expression Chris was making for an amused smile.

He also mentioned organically grown Cadillacs, but that had more to do with the place where the interview was being done.

I think.

video-game-adaptation anime-theme-song philosophy

See this entry for the song in question. Basically, when I'm doing good, this is the philosophy I fall back on when it comes to life. Sad? Maybe. But fairly true. I coined the term when I was giving Heffie some advice. I may have quoted lyrics at him. Not sure. It's a song about striving, emphasizing that everyone has setbacks and doubts, but you can keep trying regardless.

Hmm. The problem here is that you have a LOT of repeats.

Well, stuff like all the different permutations of a given character's name, for example. I mean, I get why -- that way you can find more people and comms that share your interest, regardless of how they may phrase it -- but it means that while you have 66 individual interests, you actually have about 50 interests that aren't repeats, and a lot of them are related, like SGA and McKay and John/Rodney. Maybe it's because I'm up past my bedtime but it makes it harder to choose.

Which is two posts worth of blather to say "I'll get back to you". *facepalm* Bed now.
