kiffie for inspiration, title, and a few tweaks with word choice.
"AAAAAYAAAAGH!"
John tensed into complete wakefulness as the shriek broke the quiet of an offworld night. And then a flailing hand smacked him in the head.
"Rodney," he said, smacking the hand back irritably. The only response was a sobbing inhalation of breath from the other half of the tent.
"Are you awake?" he asked. Rodney moaned in reply, and John risked turning over to look at him, just in time to get caught in the eyes with Teyla's flashlight as she ducked in through the tent flap. John squinted and tried to block it with his hand, half-falling back onto his bedroll in the process.
"Are you all right?" she inquired, sweeping the light towards Rodney, who was grinding the heels of his palms into his eyes.
"No," Rodney groused. "I had a nightmare." He flapped a hand. "I'll be fine. Go -- Just go. Thanks."
Teyla shot John one of her looks, he thought, but it was hard to tell.
"I will be right out here, if you cannot go back to sleep, Rodney," she said kindly, and left.
Rodney huffed out a breath, and sniffled.
John threw his arm over his eyes and counted to ten in his head, but by the end of it, he could tell Rodney was still awake.
"What was it?" he asked reluctantly.
"Oh, it was horrible," Rodney said. "I dreamt about the last episode of Enterprise."
John rolled his eyes and thudded his head against the ground.
"That sucks."
