Have you read the latest issue of Blue Beetle? No? GO READ IT OMG

OMG GUY IS MADE OF WIN! WIN. There's just, I love this entire issue. I especially love the last page.

So I'ma quote it atcha.

*ahem*

[panel 1]

JAIME: So you see my problem. I'm totally overpowered here. They're bigger, got better weapons, more experience, starships!

GUY: *pulling a book out of his knapsack* I got something for you. Left it inside when I came earlier.

[panel 2]

GUY: *holds out the book to Jaime*

JAIME: "Strategy" by Liddell-Hart.

GUY: Ted gave it to me. There's a list of more books he wanted me to read, written in the back cover. Tactics, military intelligence, data analysis, stuff like that.

[panel 3]

GUY: He was always trying to get me to think like him. But a man's gotta know his swing, Jaime. I hit things, and I'm good at thinking about hitting things.

[panel 4]

GUY: Ted Kord had no powers, kid. He was always "overpowered." Be he always won. I saw him mop the floor with guys who ate stars.

GUY: Because he was smarter. He was smarter than Bats, although nobody ever noticed.

[panel 5]

GUY: You can beat these punks. But you gotta stop thinkin' like some scared kid with fancy power armour...

JAIME: *reading the book*

GUY: ...and start thinkin' like The Blue Beetle.

*scream* GUY I LOVE YOU!!!

Guy is love. It's just that aliens scrambled his brains. He's lucky he came out of that coma, and he was a jerk when he did, but then again he woke up to the sight of his fiancée making out with his buddy Hal, so. Bad precedent.

I love Guy. *hugs him* This is even more awesome than how he is with Kyle!

As much as I enjoy seeing Guy get kicked around once and awhile, I first really liked him in... whatsit, I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League mini (I think that was the name). The whole thing with him and Ice and how he was written both as he should be, and as a real human being... I dunno, it was cool.

This just makes him plain awesome.

I miss Ted. ._.

I think her name was Amanda

I think the whole thing with Ice from the start, in JLI, was good. But the first time I saw Guy was in the Green Arrow/Green Lantern team-up book, just before the "Hard-Travelling Heroes" storyline. Hal Jordan was still the only GL on Earth, and Guy was his back-up. This was back when Guy was still a school teacher, and he was taking a busload of kids on a school trip when some maniac blew the bridge.

There was this one little girl hanging on the ruined edge of the bridge, and she was only tiny and so, so terrified and he did a headcount of his kids, found her missing, found her hanging, and stopped her from falling. He had to lay down and get almost half his body over the edge of the bridge just to get enough of a grip on her to haul her up, and he did -- just as the bus rolled. He pushed her to safety, the bus hit him and sent him over the edge just as the section of bridge gave under the bridge's weight -- and that was one Hal showed up and saved him.

The thing is, we only saw Hal save him. We find out from the kids what happened, when they tell Hal, because he was all "Holy cow, Guy, you must have broken half the bones in your body!" Guy had to be put in a body cast for like six months, so Hal had to go find another back-up GL (John Stewart), but it always just struck me. He didn't have the ring. Guy was just that brave, and completely selfless when it came to the kids.

After the coma, he changed a lot, but that core of bravery and heroism never went away. It was just obscured by egotism and braggery. Like I said, the aliens really messed with his head.
