XD Namor has such a charming way of initiating conversations with Jim.

And apparently Jim used to be CEO of a corporation Namor owned? I am picturing those board meetings. And laughing.

I see your found that. XD

And yes! Jim was CEO of Oracle, which was an environmental-protection business that Namor started in the 90s during the John Byrne run. Jim was first a security guard there (he'd lost his powers in Avengers West Coast and felt useless, so Namor pretty much commanded him to come work for him), then had moved up to CEO by the time Heroes For Hire came along. He and Namor had tea together! And Jim had 90-billion cats! --All little ginger things with pretty green eyes. :3

Heroes For Hire was a good series, I thought. It had a lot more character development than punching things, and had Ant-Man (Scott Lang) fly up into the air, on fire, shouting "The Incredible Fire-Snot!" So. Yeah. Good times.

Another reason to read H4H...

Yes, I found that. X3 I seem to recall Namor doing this on other occasions as well. He seems to especially like interrupting Jim on the phone or radio. ;3 (Although in retrospect, perhaps reading all of New Invaders right before bed wasn't such a great idea. Oh Jim. ;_; )

so Namor pretty much commanded him to come work for him

Yeah, that's Namor for you.

He and Namor had tea together!

ASDFGHJKL; *flails* omg so precious! XD

N'AWWWWW! I know Jim is a soft touch, but that's frikkin' adorable~

I had actually picked up some miscellaneous early issues of the series, but was deeply 'MEH. Marvel. Meh, I say.' at the time. Mostly because of mutants.

Inside looks head, he's like, "Jenny? Jenny, honey, be calm. And less weird would be nice, but I ain't stupid enough to ask for it. Oh, Lordy, I better ask her not to smash the damn elevator..." but he is smarter than people give him credit for and only said the pertinent bit. *nodnod* X3

Yeah. Admittedly, the ending is very touching (damnit, Jim, why are you so... so... you), but I dislike that it seemed to start off a trend of killing poor Jim just for shits and giggles. Further, that Alan Jacobsen felt the need to burn his bridges (so to speak) as he left the title. I kinda feel it was a way to ensure that Jim would be set aside if Jacobsen was ever allowed to revisit the title -- which I can understand, a little. But that didn't happen, and instead it just ensured that no one else could use him in anything for a long, long while without automatically returning him to "dead" status at the end of it. And then we had Jimbo's corpse getting stolen, creepy scientists, Bucky, Namor, and eventually Toro, and you know where that led. (I ordered The Torch as a trade! Whee!)

As for H4H: At the time, Jim was trying very, very hard to be Grumpy Old Man, because he felt this was the correct way to be In Charge (and possibly he made the mistake of asking Namor for advice). Of course, said 90-billion cats (and Totoro t-shirts -- I love that that's canon) did very little to help him in that regard. Most of the Heroes for Hire team saw through it, except for Danny, who was frustrated, I think, at having to answer to anyone.

Mind, that "Heroes for Hire," as a title, has been applied to several different volumes of books. This particular series only ran about 12 issues, if I'm remembering right. I don't have any of the run here to give you an exact volume number, but I'm pretty sure the artist was consistent across the whole run. So if you see a book with similar art, that's the one.

Finally, for you:

Yes. They do actually explain how a robot can grow facial hair. The answer makes Namor nearly sporfle tea out of his gills.

I'm gonna have to look for The Torch. X3 I have many Invaders .cbrs now, though~

Hm. The cats are all tiger-stripey. I hope that didn't give Greer any ideas. (I love that a) there is a little Totoro on the table! And b) there is a little orange paw creeping towards the Totoro from behind the chair! XD)

Most of the Heroes for Hire team saw through it, except for Danny, who was frustrated, I think, at having to answer to anyone.

That's very likely. He prefers to be an equal partner or a teacher. He's accepted mentors and teachers, but he's precocious -- he offers them friendly respect for their knowledge while trying to decant as much of that knowledge into his own self as Danny-ly possible. X3

Well, he's already got hair, and if Dfata can do it --

The answer makes Namor nearly sporfle tea out of his gills.

I'm gonna have to look for The Torch.

I enjoyed it. It tries to clean up a lot of the mess with... well... everything in the past 10 years, plus the WTF-ery surrounding Toro. However, it does involve a pretty disconcerting mindwipe that, while it does slowly fix itself, is rather distressing. I would recommend reading the related issues of Captian America, first, though: No. 46, 47, 48 (2009). It has Bucky and Namor totally not bonding. It's not like Namor is proud of Bucky, or anything. Nope.

Well, he's already got hair, and if Data can do it --

Data was wearing a beard that was pasted on yay. Jim's is not. Though, I think Namor would have dealt with that possibility better. XD

I do consistently giggle at the idea that Jim dyes it, though. One of the V-Battalion appearances had him with white hair, as if it had faded out over time. I don't think they ever really addressed it, but something tells me pre-The Torch Jim was just a little bit vain. I would not have put it past him.

James 'Stop calling me "Bucky Cap"!' Buchanan, (un)official Namor-riler! I want to picture hugs they both pretend never happened. can I picture that?

Jim's is not. Though, I think Namor would have dealt with that possibility better. XD

Oh, Lordy. I'm not sure I want to find out!

No, that seems pretty in-character. It's part vanity (he was created to look just like this and, frankly, looks pretty good) and a smaller part insecurity (looking good = easier acceptance, which is always a concern for an artificially created person).

For a little while, there, I'm thinking Namor may have been considering the manly shoulder grab, but decided against it. Alas. That's saved for Jim.

Oh, Lordy. I'm not sure I want to find out!

Rogaine.

Though, to be fair, it's not like anyone he hangs around with these days doesn't know who and what he is. I sometimes think that Namor only ever really bonded with him because he wasn't human. They both felt like outsiders in their respective worlds. But, yeah, it's not like it would have helped him in his early days, trying to fit in with the police force, and trying to not get found out, lest they chase him off again.

Someone did a nice little ficlet on that, actually...

Well, when you think about it, hugging is not something it would especially make sense to have develop as a casual show of affection for an underwater species.

Rogaine.

Are you shitting me?! XD

Ooh, ficlet. *clicky*

Which makes you wonder what, exactly, they do to show affection, and if we've been missing Namor being all "I LOVE YOU MAN" all this time, just because we have no idea what to look for. I'm sure there's a humor ficlet to be had in there, somewhere.

Are you shitting me?! XD

Heroes for Hire was a very silly series.
