The concept album was in French, yes -- the finalized version of the play was in English, however. If you ever get a chance to listen to the concept, it's all very 80s; rock-and-roll, almost. I'm glad they did away with that over-riding 80s vibe, because I fear it would have otherwise negatively dated the rest of the musical.
Some of the black-and-white imagery is still present in the English version -- "He knows his way in the dark, but mine is the way of the Lord," but it's not as outright, no.
Huh, now I think I should go listen to a current French version. :3
