Are Max and Goofy colourblind? (eta: Dogs do see colours, they just see far less than the average non-colourblind human. They are dichromatic, they see blue, and yellow, and mixes of the two, but it's all fairly pale compared to what humans experience, we think.)

If they are, then they'd be able to tell the Duck triplets apart by scent, in person, but seeing them in pictures or video from before they started dressing in different styles (instead of the same thing in different colours) would be more challenging.

...Do ducks have a sense of smell? eta: Apparently yes!

Cool. I had heard that hawks did not haev a sense of smell, but apparently it all depends on their subspecies? WHich I guess makes sense.

I've usually gone with them being colorblind, but I never thought about how it would affect looking at pictures or video. I'm sure mannerisms help, but yeah, it would probably be harder for them to tell.

(Of course now this makes me think of Max being red-green colorblind and so only being able to consistently identify Dewey. For some reason this is hilarious to me.)

Also, DOES THIS MEAN DUCK/DOG FIC? :D :D

Well, since I've just read every Max/Louie fic you and [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel have ever posted (or linked to in the manifesto), I have plotbunnies (plotduckies? plotpuppies? plotpugduddies!)

Also, I really want to watch A Goofy Movie now.

Someone I discussed this with on the phone thought that the best rule with Disney charcters was to go by their actions: if they react to colours, then they see them.

Which made me wonder if the Goof bias towards redhaired ladies counts as "reacting".
