The "Admiral Archer" whose beagle is the reason Scotty is on Delta Vega in the new movie can't be the Archer from the series Enterprise. Provided you assume that Enterprise really does fall in the same timeline as TOS, TNG, and the rest -- which I usually don't, but if you do -- Jonathan Archer was the President of the Federation for nearly a decade. I therefore doubt they'd still be calling him "Admiral". Because that would have happened before the changes to the timeline caused by the temporal intrusion of the Narada, it would not be different.
Also, he'd be really really frickin' old. I know in Enterprise there was an episode where they were gonna say Archer lived to see the Constitution-class Enterprise christened (and died the next day), but that scene was cut, never made it to the screen, therefore is not Enterprise canon -- probably because someone pointed out how he'd be really really frickin' old.
Yes, I am totally still thinking about this crap. This Archer thing doesn't actually bother me as much as the mucking about with people's ages. Somehow Romulans killing Kirk's dad made Chekov be born years earlier! Amazing! *eyeroll*

And it's not like they said the dog was alive when it was transported. Maybe it was stuffed!

Date: 2009-09-07 10:08 am (UTC)peopleficcers don't seem to have quite grasped that the new movie isn't just an alternate reality, it's one that's supposed to have the exact same history as the regular universe up to a point. You can't just change things willy-nilly without thinking about them.(no subject)
Date: 2009-09-07 12:33 pm (UTC)Not necessarily linked to Enterprise, mind.
Because if there's enough, well then, you just have to throw up your hands and say they screwed up, and the ficcers may as well write what they please. (kindly assure me that there aren't enough glitches and changes to justify that ...)

Date: 2009-09-07 09:57 pm (UTC)*sigh* Okay, there's Scotty. He's too damned young. They never actually say what age he is, and he looks older than the rest of main cast, true, but in TOS Scotty was the oldest officer, whereas in the new movie it can't be that much of a margin since he was sent to Delta Vega for pissing off his adviser -- Admiral Archer -- and he was sent there within the last three years, because Kirk knew the beagle that was the reason Scotty was exiled. So, there's that.
I'd need to watch it again to make sure I'm not misremembering other things, really. It's back out in IMAX, you know, but the bastards aren't showing it anywhere East of Quebec. *rails*

I think he was eventually put in the museum down here, though I never saw him. According to Wiki, a lot of that stuff was taken out of state.
