Star Trek TOS fanfic: "Taste of Home"
Jul. 30th, 2009 07:46 pmOne of the things I like in the TOS books I've been reading is how Sulu and Uhura keep trying to get Chekov to be more adventurous in terms of what he eats, and him wriggling out of all the time (to their great amusement). But hell, they're willing to experiment themselves, into areas more familiar to him...
(As usual, infer accents where appropriate, I suck at writing them.)
Taste of Home
"Pavel, try this," Uhura said, turning to him with a spoon proffered, her free hand held under it to catch any splatter.
The young Russian eyed the spoon with deep distrust.
"What is it?"
Sulu laughed. "It's not going to bite you! She just wants you to make sure it tastes right, and you're the only one who's ever had solyanka that wasn't from a replicator."
Chekov's eyes widened and he looked between his friends.
"You made solyanka? For me?"
"Well, we're going to eat it too," Uhura told him, eyes twinkling. "That is, if you'll ever taste it..."
He leaned forward and slurped the familiar flavour from the spoon, reflecting that it was good to have friends.
