eliyes: (tea & hank)

So this morning I get up and my throat is thick and in need of tea. I put on the kettle and I select my tea bag (mint tisane), and give a rinse to the heavy glass mug/tankard I intend to use. In goes the bag, in goes the water, CRACK! goes the glass, and suddenly there's tea all over the counter!

It split perfectly in half. Not even on the seam.

Thermal shock is awesome.

Tea escaping is not. :(

I sloshed the tea into an empty creamer as soon as I could, so I didn't lose all of it.

I'm just wondering why this never happened before, since it's not like it was the first time I'd used that mug for tea....

I once had the bottom fall off a mug -- a *ceramic* mug, mind you -- right after a poured hot water for tea into it.

That was the most startling thing that happened to me that week, and utterly utterly bizarre. I didn't even know that could *happen*.

Isn't it crazy? Was there a loud crack or pop noise or anything when it did it? (Also, I hope you weren't scalded too badly!)

I suppose tea all over the counter > tea all over you (scalds are rubbish, after all), but still! Wasted tea! Oh noes!

This is true! I failed to burn myself in anyway, which is somewhat amazing, given my track record.

Still. I liked that mug. :(

Ugh, we're not talking about burns/scalds over here at the moment - I scalded myself on a work kettle a couple of weeks ago, and it turns out that we're not really technically actually supposed to have the kettle, and my team are never going to speak to me again if we lose it.

DX It sounds like a really nice one! I want a glass tankard too! *ponders where she might aquire one*

Eee. D: *sends you soothing aloe, and Aurion*

Well, I got mine from a bar, technically. My friend was a security guard for a site in a bar-heavy part of town, and a drunk dude she ousted from sleeping on her benches left it behind. X3 So she washed it and claimed it as salvage. Made an awesome tea mug for years.

A light film of cold water lining the inside of the glass is all it takes. And since you said you rinsed the glass out beforehand...
