...Commenting on someone's fanfic solely to point out the glaring error on which their entire plot hinges is... mean, right?

Thank you all for your advice. I have now commented on the fic in question.

Meanness is only in phrasing, never in content. <( ._.)>

...

...unless it's about math.

It's not about math. So, I have to phrase it nicely, then.

Unless you make the same face that is in your icon right there. I mean. . .awwww.

And what [livejournal.com profile] lakidaa said is good too.

Wait, so -- the icon decreases the meanness?

I think so. For some reason, I look at him and think "Awwww."

I don't know why. But in all seriousness, I think it is in delivery. Don't sugar coat it, just don't flatly/bluntly state it and nothing more.

Because he's doing his "I'm cute, really" face? XD Unfortunately, I have context and know he just made a smartass comment. XD

Okay, I'm thinking about how to phrase it.

It depends on the phrasing. If a major plot point is wrong, I'd kinda want to know so I could try and fix it.

I have trouble distinguishing the difference between constructive criticism and bitchy pointing-out of errors.

If a major plot point is wrong, I'd kinda want to know so I could try and fix it.

There is an Asgard roaming around post-Enemy at the Gate. You know, when all the Asgard are dead. And it's the thing causing the plot to happen.

Myabe I should just leave it alone.

eta: Okay, if I presented it as "I think the end of this story would work better if you explained how there is an Asgard still alive", is that mean?

No, that's not mean at all. Though, from Lost Tribe, I thought the Asgard are still very much alive in Pegasus (they're just really, really horrid)?

ETA: I know they blew up the ships from that, but weren't they also seeded in other parts of the galaxy? Hmm, I should go watch that again because Daniel Jackson and Rodney McKay together is like the best thing EVER! :D

I was under the impression that all the Asgard died at the end of that episode, since they had a small population that was contained in those ships and that base. However, by all means, watch it again! :D Like I said when it aired, I've been waiting for the Rodney and Daniel show for a long, long time! The only episode of SG-1 where they actually meet is "Moebius", which I have never seen, and it's an AU anyway. So we never got to see them interact much on screen, but they seemed friendly enough in "Rising", and I wanted more. X3

Moebius is LemonChickenRodney (yes, I have given all AU Rodneys their own descriptive name;) My favorite AU Rodney from SG1 is definitely MillionaireRodney from Road Not Taken, my favorite AU Rodney from SGA being Area51Rodney (mmm, Vegas, yes please!)

One of the many reasons I like the S5 2-Parter is that immediately when Daniel comes through that Gate you know he and Rodney have this way long history just from how he greets him. It's fun! :D

I think everyone calls that Rodney the lemon chicken one. Vegas!Rodney is like a cross between RoadNotTaken!Rodney and Hewlett's character from Cypher.

I liked that, too. I really do think that Daniel liked Rodney. I meant, he's used to dealing with supergeeks, supergeniuses, and superegos. Rodney is at least supremely useful.

I'm torn. I really am. On the one hand, I want to encourage better ficwriting, on the other hand I know I nitpick the least and tiniest details, but this one is... a huge, enormous plot point of the setting.

Just add in some positive feedback before the critisism. Find some stuff you liked (story idea, dialogue, writting, in character, etc.), compliment them on it and then bring up your point.

*eyes the story*

I'm not sure I liked it enough the first time to read it again, but that might be my irritation with the ending colouring everything.
