The blue lines on his head help make that clearer.

But it is remarkably easy to mistake...

:3 I know I know. . .

It wasn't until recently that I figured out what orz, OTZ, or OTL is a little person on their knees. And that was because I got so tired of being confused, I googled it. Even so. . .

I still read it as the person saying "or-z" "aw-tz" or "aw-tul".

._.

I honestly have no idea what you're referring, to here.

You've never seen people randomly add in "orz" "OTZ" or "OTL" online? ._.

No. Tai just now explained what this is.

I mean, I've seen R0XX0RZ, but...
(Also "J00 SUXX0RZ" and "FUXX0RZ!".)

Ooooh. Yeah. I see a lot of people on my FList tag it in places, and once in a while in an IM from people.

I was soooo confused for such a long time.

For years I only saw it -- and only "orz" at that -- on Japanese fansites.

It's actually annoyed me a little bit to see it picked up over here, for vaguely obscure reasons mostly related to why I hate seeing what most people over here think "bishonen" means >.>

Yay cultural context ...? ;3

Hee~! Yes!

I can't bring myself to use "orz". Doesn't feel right to me. Which is probably why I still pronounce it as a word in my head instead of seeing it as an emoticon. ( I just imagine it is the sound they are exhausted or disappointed. :3;; I use to say "fra" in real like when I was frustrated. :D )

Oooooh. >.> What does "bishonen*" mean?

"Bishonen" translated means "beautiful boy" -- and they do mean boy. As in, sixteen tops. (for older there's "biseinen", "beautiful youth", and as you can probably guess that one has a best-before date too.)

The word also has connotations of the ephemeral qualities of a beauty that will fade and die -- whether because of growing older or actually dying, either will work.

But even without the finer details, the basic meaning in Japanese is still considerably more pointed than "anything with mantackle that I think is hawt".

That's quite poetic. :3 I like.
