The following quote is taken from here.

SAN FRANCISCO – The sponsors of Proposition 8 asked the California Supreme Court on Friday to nullify the marriages of the estimated 18,000 same-sex couples who exchanged vows before voters approved the ballot initiative that outlawed gay unions.

The Yes on 8 campaign filed a brief arguing that because the new law holds that only marriages between a man and a woman are recognized or valid in California, the state can no longer recognize the existing same-sex unions. The document reveals for the first time that opponents of same-sex marriage will fight in court to undo those unions that already exist.

"Proposition 8's brevity is matched by its clarity. There are no conditional clauses, exceptions, exemptions or exclusions," reads the brief co-written by Kenneth Starr, dean of Pepperdine University's law school and the former independent counsel who investigated President Bill Clinton.

Now, it looks to me that if that's the case, this thing must be worded such that people who have gotten married in other countries to a member of the same sex will also not be recognized as spouses.

In which case, hey -- let's all boycott traveling to California, world-wide! Everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or marital status. (Sorry, California friendbeens.)

Disneyland's profit's will plummet -- just as the first example that springs to mind of a multimillion-dollar enterprise in California that depends on people going there. It certainly won't be the only company to suffer. And the economy will do more unhappy things. It will really suck.

And then maybe someone somewhere will realise how ridiculous it is to pour money into a campaign of hate instead of buying food.

Starr really just is despicable. And I understand that the State of California will be fighting this proposal, y/n?

California's Attorney General seems to want to. He doesn't think Prop 8 should be applied retroactively. I'm hoping that when this hits he Supreme court someone there has the sense to slap "human rights violations" on the thing.

Having worked in the tourism industry, I have to agree -- but having been a tourist, I think it's something that just kinda happens to people when they travel, regardless of their usual level of intelligence. Alas.

Although it's terrible fun to tell the more gullible ones bald-faced lies that cannot possibly be true. :D
