Choose a fandom you know I'm into. It can be anything: tv series, book, anime, video game, movie, whatever. Post with the fandom, and I'll answer the following questions:
1. How long have you been a fan?
2. What got you interested?
3. How active are you in this fandom?
4. Explain one canon aspect of this fandom you like.
5. Explain one canon aspect of this fandom you dislike.
6. (and 7.) As above, only for fanon.
8. If there was a sequel tomorrow, what would you want to see?

Date: 2008-08-12 03:49 am (UTC)2. This fic (http://community.livejournal.com/boostle/141429.html) and some very diligent pimping of SG-1 by my friend
3. I read a hell of a lot of fic and comment about 10% of the time, I've posted a few fics myself, and I babble about the show to anyone who stands still too long, I suspect. I mean, I had a training shift where I bonded with my coworker over David Hewlett. He brought him up, not me! So. Yeah, I dunno. I feel active, but probably don't look all that active. I guess I post about it a lot on my journal, as well.
4. I really like that most of the main ensemble are likable, and like each other. There's just a lot of really great chemistry between the characters, and I think without that the humour and the serious bits alike would fall flat.
5. The occasional inconsistencies. I'm not talking about a coffee cup being in a different spot after a cut, I mean big ones. Example: The Satedans were massacred by the Wraith because they could not be fed upon and had developed weapons tech sufficiently advanced enough to pose a threat. We actually see a Wraith try and fail to feed on Ronon Dex. But in "Reunion" and "Broken Ties", Wraith have no problem feeding on Satedans, and in fact feed on Ronon. This kind of thing doesn't really happen often, but when it does it really irritates me, because otherwise things are pretty tight.
6. I like fanon that re-enforces the relationships between characters -- team bonding, people eating together frequently, lots of email getting sent back and forth. The great thing is that this kinda fanon keeps randomly getting confirmed in the show. X3
7. I actually posted a list of SGA fanon I dislike (http://eliyes.livejournal.com/137496.html) a while back, but one point got it's own post (http://eliyes.livejournal.com/139983.html), and that's people having Dr. Rodney McKay be a misogynist. Even more than having him be a mean bastard, this particular iteration bugs me because there's no basis in canon. None. I saw this in again in a fic yesterday, so I'm freshly pissy about it.
8. Well, the series is still going so a sequel isn't in the works, although a new Stargate franchise show is also in the works. Mainly I'm just waiting for the Olympics to be over so we can get the rest of Season 5 aired. :3

Date: 2008-08-12 04:07 am (UTC)2. I'm not sure, really. I mean, watching it all, yes, but I suspect I watched it all just because it seemed interesting as a premise, and I liked the idea of getting sucked to Gaia enough to put up with Hitomi. And then I got to laugh at Allen. :3
3. Not very. Or at all, really. I've done some fanart, very specifically for a roleplay involving the Dragonslayers. Other than tossing stuff around occasionally with you, Tai, I'm not active at all.
4. Beastmen and floating rocks! :D And in the movie, yaks! The entire world-setting of Gaia, I guess. X3 At least until the end when nations start popping up out of the ether. Needless to say the entire Dilandau storyline engages me more than a lot of the rest of it.
5. The way the end was taken out back and shot.
6. The pre-show teenaged scholastic (mis)adventures of Dryden and Allen as a concept never fail to amuse. ;)
7. Most portrayals of Dilandau and the Dragonslayers, especially those involving promiscuous sex, abuse, and BDSM. B| Which is, alas, most of them. B|
8. Hm, tough call. An actual sequel to the series (as opposed to another gaiden, like the movie) would be difficult to pull of well. It'd be kinda like... The Never-Ending Story 2. I don't think I want one.
1. Since junior high at least, so over a decade.
2. ...Dorks in brightly coloured armour! I need a better reason?
3. Uh... Hm. Not very, I suppose. It's been quite some while since I did any fanart or fanfic for it.
4. The rich historical subtext. ;3
5. The difficulties in keeping the plot in a single continuity, since it's really not.
6. Fanon tries to fill in blanks/smooth over the rough spots, sometimes, and I appreciate that on some levels...
7. ...but not when it claims to be canon. Also, I despise most NA fanon characterizations.
8. Do Not Want! I've seen the attempts at a sequel, they're terrible. Although I think it's more likely at the moment that a live-action would be made, since that's what Japan's been doing lately.

Date: 2008-08-12 04:14 am (UTC)This makes me seethe with RAGE. I may not watch the show very often (if at all), but even I know that Rodney doesn't have that sort of stuff floating around in his head.
Mainly because his mind is always preoccupied with how awesome he is.

Date: 2008-08-12 11:03 pm (UTC)...Star Trek, maybe?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-08-13 01:09 am (UTC)2. I really can't answer this. X3 It's just a foregone conclusion, you know? You breathe air, you eat food, you watch Star Trek.
3. Not very, I suspect. I've seen every episode of TNG twice or more, most every ep of DS9 or Voyager about the same. I used to collect the novels, action figures, I had a TNG command uniform and a Klingon-English dictionary. (The dictionary is around here somewhere, but the uniform I long since outgrew.) I remember putting together stories all through elementary school with my friends, and there was some art generated, but I never wrote anything down, really. I don't go to cons, I don't post fic or vids or such. I'll still talk about the shows at the drop of the hat, I'm still interested... I guess it depends how you quantify "active".
4. The transporters. :3 They're among my fave treknology, because hey -- they kinda got it right. It's been scientifically proven that it is possible to disassemble something atom by atom and reassemble it elsewhere. And the fact that there are characters who are really uncomfortable with this concept also amuses me, and strikes me as fairly realistic.
5. JANEWAY. x3
6 & 7. I'm gonna pass on these questions, because I'm not really sure what all fanon there is. You could argue the novels are sanctioned fanfic, and thus present fanon, but...
8. There's still a lot that can be done with the star trek universe, be it movies with established characters or a whole new show. I can't say there's any one thing I want, but you can be sure that if something new was announced, I'd take a look.

Date: 2008-08-20 12:21 am (UTC)5. It's true! XD I really dislike her. She's a terrible role model and a really creepy person. (The character -- I have no opinion on the actress.)
