I've hit a bit of a snag with something I'm writing. Or, rather, I wrote something before I had completely worked part of it out, and typing it up now I discover that there's an entire section that doesn't work.
The problem is that I have a character running around whom I have since decided would have already been dead by the point in this particular story. I can't just have another character make the same observations I had him making, because no one who didn't have his cultural background would. :/ This irks me, because said observation would have had an emotional tie-in to events in the source material, helping to ground the story. Darn it.
This is awkward. :( I'm gonna have to rip out the guts of this piece. Argh!
