Ahaha yes. Haven't that always been there though? I's rare that a service/company to not have it.

Yep, it's always been there. That's pretty well my point.

NEVAH!

I mean. . .of course! That's a pretty standard paragraph in most Terms of Services out there.

Yep, it's standard, it's always been in there, so everyone going "they can't do this!!" is wrong.

It's not that it's not "right"-- ie, they have no right to do it --it's just that some people disagree with what they're doing and think they shouldn't do it.

There are far more productive ways to make that message heard than this path.

I should explain that I say that because this won't work. The LJ staff are already aware that some people are upset. But users of the service can't strike. A strike is when workers refuse to work and force their employers to deal with them or suffer business consequences. Not posting content for a day will do nothing. All the content already posted is still there -- people will look at, people who Google led to LJ, and the ads will be seen. All the paid accounts are still paying for that day, and thus everyone participating is basically paying LJ for a day they won't use, throwing money at them.

I'm not upset with the change, personally, but I'm pretty meh about it. The response among some of the LJ users, on the other hand, is starting to irritate me. It's like every time there's a change, people freak out.
