Below the cut you will find my commentary on the Stargate: Atlantis episode "Miller's Crossing". I will be making specific reference to events of the episode, which constitute spoilers -- but I won't be providing a synopsis, so if you haven't seen the episode, not only will you be spoiled, you'll potentially be confused. So don't say you weren't warned.

If you don't want to be spoiled yet, then all you need to know is this: I PHYSICALLY FLAILED.

HE CALLED HIM JOHN
WITH HIS EYES
FULL OF TEARS

Okay, so that's not remotely the most important point of the episode, but it bore some saying, because, as far as I know, this is the first time Rodney has called him John.

Starting from the beginning:

I LOVE YOU ZELENKA! <3 Don't lose the will to live, you have a great new haircut! :o

Rodney and Jeannie have kept in touch! :D And are working on projects together! :D And obviously talking about personal stuff, too, because she knew about Katie Brown! :D

HA! Vancouver. Take that, many many people who mysteriously thought they lived in California. (Seriously, Canada =/= California. Why does everyone always have McKay and/or Miller be associated with California??)

In many ways, this felt like two episodes. The kidnapping and subsequent working on the nanites being part one, and part two beginning when they get Jeannie back to the SGC.

I notice that Kaleb refers to Rodney, when speaking to Madison, as "your Uncle Mer" but addresses him as Rodney face-to-face. I suspected as much: Kaleb seems the type to respect Rodney's wishes regarding what he wants to be called, but also not undermining his wife's desire to have their daughter call him Meredith. He is so scared for his wife. *hugs him and sends the actor cookies for doing a stellar job with a relatively small amount of screentime*

(As an aside, Ronon looks HOT in his jeans, and there was a guy who made a phone call when he saw him and he better have worked for DMT or we've got other plottiness afoot back on Terra. :O)

I love Rodney through all of this. Once again, the introduction of his sister into the mix brings out the humanity in an already very human character. I am perpetually glad that the "cold fish astrophysicist" was dropped in favour of McKay. HE IS SUCH A GOOD BROTHER OMG. And he's HANDLING it, he's calm and he's telling John and Ronon to just let him work, and he's also clearly impatient, because they were already in the car before he called John.

He is so competent, too, with how to figure out what's up, especially (of course) in regards to her computer. Granted, he was technically in charge of the forensic investigation of the village on New Athos -- but I guess you could say he's done this before: after removing Wraith spyware, an Earth trojan virus wasn't too hard to find.

It's also evident that John wanted to stay to be supportive, but he and Ronon were willing to give McKay space when he needed it. Even if that meant chilling at the hotel eating lots of junk food.

If I hadn't seen that NID guy in previous episodes (...of SG-1? I don't recall, he looks familiar though) I would be very very suspicious of the way he STEPPED BACK just before Rodney was nabbed. Was he really going to get the shotgun? Well, behaviour later in the episode suggests yes, but the NID are a sneaky, sneaky, sneaky bunch.

SHOUT OUT FOR CSIS! REPRESENT! B|

I just -- go sibling solidarity! They fight, but as soon as Rodney stands up to Wallace, Jeannie is behind him -- literally, moves to stand behind him. And he is SO NATURAL with the cover story -- I just. *hugs Rodney* I love him so.

(P.S. I am totally with Rodney on the whole West Edmonton Mall thing. AND I notice that it's "Dad had to call the police to find you" -- once again, there is no mention of their mother. I'm developing a theory that the elder McKay was a brilliant scientist who was responsible for the majority of the parenting, thus letting his academic career suffer and possibly not being exactly sanguine about it. It makes sense for how the kids act, why Jeannie thought she couldn't be a good mom AND a scientist, why Rodney pushes himself so hard to be the best and smartest.)

OMG epilepsy! D: (I fully expect kid-fic with little Rodney and little Jeannie and a seizure, fandom. B| I mean it. B| Don't make me wait.)

Rodney trying to appeal to the Wraith's good side, and then to his pride, with his eyes shiny with unshed tears and his voice cracking and emotional -- I just, somebody give Hewlett a freakin' award, man. *sniff*

I watch him working so closely next to the Wraith, and I think of him last time they allied with the Wraith, and I think of him the first time he came face to face with them and I realise just how far McKay has come. Yes, he is afraid of the Wraith -- but he can deal with it. It does not own him.

RODNEY! D8 *hugs him* YOU ARE A GOOD BROTHER! It's pretty obvious they had confiscated his card so he couldn't kill himself. And he stole Bill's card and was going to anyway SERIOUSLY YOU ARE A GOOD BROTHER ILU

"I can't lose my sister, John." ;~;

And then John, I just. In Sateda, he said to Teyla: "I would do anything for any one of you." and while we have seen that over and over, never before have we seen him sit down and show a man whose daughter has just died and who faces life in a top secret prison, show him pictures of Jeannie's hubbie and little girl, and talk him into suicide.

Nobody had better tell Jeannie that Wallace was sacrificed to save her. I mean it. She empathized with him, she will NOT be cool with that, she will BLAME HERSELF. NO TELLING.

And there was the hugging and the totally agreeing that she can hold this over him for the rest of his life and he bought her a hybrid car and there was hugging. ;o; And the fussing and the putting her slippers on her feet adn the getting her housecoat and the hugging. ;o;

And how much will the folks back on Atlantis hear about this? (And can anyone tell me what comic John was reading? It looked like it might be Green Lantern Corps, but he had quite a pile there.)

I can't help but think that we're going to be seeing some long-range repercussions for introducing both Replicator programmed nanites and a Wraith to Earth. Did they ever deactivate his subspace beacon? I bet they didn't.

IN CONCLUSION: I'm gonna go watch it again.
