When Bobby arranged for his parents and his girlfriend, Opal Tanaka, to meet and chat over dinner, it went very badly. His father made some racist comments and then ninjas attacked (again -- when he took Opal out to a restaurant for lunch on her birthday, ninjas also attacked).
This incident has frequently been used as evidence that Bobby's dad, William Drake, is a horrible bigot. Now, I'm not saying he's not bigoted, plainly he is -- but it's not an across the board thing. I mean, he married a woman of a different religion and ethnic background than his own, so clearly he's not wholly close-minded.
Then it hit me: William's kid brother George, of whom Bobby is the spitting image, was killed by a Japanese kamikaze pilot.
And suddenly his particular issue made a little more sense.
