Alright, I've written a Vic/Gar quickie (less than a page in Word), and now I just have to figure out how to post it. I'm sure I could copy and paste it here, but I'd like to post it to [livejournal.com profile] titans_together as well... Hmm. *goes looking for FAQs*

Edit/update: Fic posted! It's called Dirty Dancing, and they are. ^.~

Hi! I was wandering through reading the Boostle flist community (why? Because mine's acting up and I'm bored) and I thought "Oooh, Vic/Gar ficlet! I have a vested interest in seeing that up."

*bows* At your service. What were you wanting to know about how to get a ficlet up in a community? *was total newbie to LJ a few years back, and considers it a sacred duty to help the familiarizing process along ;)*

Well, I checked the FAQ so I think I know how to do an lj cut. (We'll see when I try.) I haven't quite worked out how to post to a particular community, and I'm wondering why I see a lot of people putting "fake lj cuts" or links to their own journals up. Basically, I've never done this before at all. Any pointers or instructions you could give would be very much appreciated; I'm having some trouble navigating the help files...

A lot of people link to their journals because they're crossposting fairly heavily and don't want to deal with the fuss of having feedback in several different places. I generally don't bother, but most of my fic doesn't have much of anywhere to go - I write in a lot of rare fandoms.

Etiquette on posting fics varies from community to community. Some have rules against links, some require you to use a subject line to announce, say, that you're posting fic, some don't allow crossposting (posting a fic more then one place, like both your personal journal and titans_together), some want you to use a form like some lists do...

It depends. Reading the userinfo will generally tell you of any formal community rules, and taking a look at what everybody else is doing will give you a good idea of the informal ones. Titans Together is a pretty laid back place, so it's a good spot to start. :) It's more or less impossible to cause major offense.

As a general rule of thumb, if it has spoilers or non-worksafe material (though I'm sure the second's more than obvious to you), cut it. And generally, unless you're posting to a drabble community, all fic should be cut (some drabble communities allow 100 word on the dot entries to not be cut).

Um. Other than that, there's not a lot that's a hard and fast rule. But if you click to update your journal, you can post in any community you have posting access to (generally, if you're a member you'll be able to post in it - the exceptions are communities that only allow mods posting access). There's a pull down list in the same area as the moods, the icon lists, and the little "current music" box. The default is your personal journal, but you can change it with each individual update.

:D Hope that helps!

Okay, that's pretty helpful. Thanks!

...What *is* drabble? I've been out of the fic-writing community for a half-decade, and even before that I didn't write much for comics (though I started with reading X-Men fics). I've noticed a lot of unfamiliar terms, and drabble is one of them.

Sexpollenfic is pretty self-explanatory, though...

You're welcome! :) I'm glad.

Oh, a drabble is a fic that's exactly 100 words. Good ones are kind of like good jokes. They're a writing exercise, and are very hard to do well. But some communities, like the Farscape drabble community, allow entries that go over that.

*laughs* That it is! Any other terms that seemed odd? Part of it is that LJ is such an odd fandom environment - it can be quite different from a list or message board.
