I have no excuses for this. It just... would not leave me alone.
Title: Unwelcoming Wagon
Fandom: Andromeda/Torchwood
Word count: 459
Warnings: THERE IS NO SEX. Shocking! There is a little bit of swearing, though.
Summary: When the Eureka Maru unknowingly passes through a reality tear when trying to land for repairs, the crew are confronted by Cardiff's local investigators. Hilarity ensues.
Beka smirked at the man who had demanded her name and given one in return, even though he was pointing something at her that she was pretty sure could send slugs of metal careening into her flesh. A flicker of something in his eyes just made her smirk all the more. She crossed her arms.
"Is that so?" she asked, amused, then turned her head and hollered into her ship for her engineer.
"Harper!"
A distant, aggrieved "What?" answered her back from inside.
"Come 'ere a sec, someone you should meet." She turned back to smiling at the man with the gun, who was looking a bit pinched. Hearing the approach of a steady muttering about busy geniuses trying to effect repairs, Beka casually stepped out of the way when she sensed Harper about to appear behind her.
Her movement drew the stranger's aim, just as Harper popped into view. The movement of the gun drew Harper's attention, and in a flash he's shot it out of the guy's hand, instinctively dropping into a crouch.
Beka casually leaned against the other side of the doorway as her engineer cursed tensely and the stranger swore and shook out his empty hand. She gave them a few seconds to get it out of their systems before making the introductions.
"Seamus Harper, meet Doctor Owen Harper.
There was a pause as the two men studied one another, and then -- as she'd known he would -- her Harper spoke first.
"Huh," he said, cocking his head slightly. "Stick a beard on him and drop a few pounds and he'd kinda look like my uncle Leslie."
"Hey!" The other 'Harper' exclaimed heatedly, nearly overridden by the sound of a thin brunette yelling "Freeze!" as she stepped out of cover.
Harper shot away the weapon she was holding stiffly in front of her.
"Po- OW! Fuck!" she yelled.
"Ooh, I hope she wasn't going to say 'police'," Beka muttered with a wince, as the woman ducked out of sight again and the man rolled his eyes.
"Oops," Harper replied. "Inside? Before any more show up?"
She nodded.
"Get the door."
Beka and Harper disappeared into the Maru as the door closed with the swiftness of a Harper-style emergency override.
"Oh, bloody hell!" came to them faintly from outside.
"That went well," Beka said brightly.
"Good thing I didn't shoot them," Harper commented, holstering his gun.
"They may choose to argue the point," Rommie said, and Beka jumped, not having heard the android approach. Rommie continued, "Harper. We may be able to finish the repairs faster if we --"
Beka abandoned them to their technobabble, heading for the bridge to see if they were receiving notices of warrant yet. It was turning into one of those days.
